Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

Hey SGC...nice research you've done for us overseas pakistanis. I'm landing in KHI only 2 wks before my big day, had finished stitiching of clothes/shopping in an earlier trip to KHI. But i still need a little few things that aren;t available here in UAE at reasonable prices. Could u plz (or anybody else who has the info) let me know of the stores for the things i'm looking for? Plz do mention the location since i dont know KHI much and will have to tell the riksha wala/cab exactly where i have to go. Secondly i live somewhere near Aisha Manzil/Meena Bazaar area so it would be better if you could advice me shopping areas near to my place...i'd be visiting Gulf/Clifton side once though to check out if anything good is lying out there. Following are the things i need:

  1. Good ready made suits (formal wear) at reasonable prices where it can be altered and returned within a week's time.

  2. Matching Imitiation jewellery to go with my bridal outfits (both baraat & valima). I have only gold sets which donot have stones of matching colors & i dont wanna spoil the gold sets by putting these stones so I need something to go with the bridal wear. I'm never gonna be wearing the bridal jewellery again so i want something at a reasonable price. Do mention the rates and also as to how far i can go with the bargaining.

  3. Good nighties for brides (i find the ones available in UAE too expensive since nothing is available here apart from branded stuff). I need some nice stuff which has a good finishing but is not branded like LA SENZA or VICTORIA...thats way too too expensive.

  4. What do i wear in my hands on the baraat and valima, i mean i have a gold bangles set but thats only 2 kara and 4 bangles. Do i put some matching glass bangles between the gold ones to make it appear fuller, and secondly what do i do abt the other hand? Where could i get good bangle sets (glass/imitation) to match with the bridal outfits?

  5. Regarding bridal mehendi i have the following queries:

    • charges
    • reliable place where i can get it done at good price (i've heard that certain reaction occurs on the hands if some chemical is mixed with henna and u get boils on the hands, i dont want that happening)
    • Is Meena Bazaar in Karimabad a good place for bridal mehendi? if yes which person would u suggest over there as the top floor of meena bazaar is no less than a fish market.
    • What is in fashion regarding bridal mehendi nowadays? I mean is it simple brown/orange or is there black outlining with silver glitter too?

Thanks a billion to all who took out enough time to read thru this and reply to me..i'm kinda scared, afterall its gonna be the biggest day of my life & i wanna look real good!
And yes SGC i need ur aunts no. could u plz PM it to me?

3. For nighties, check out this lingerie shop next to Jabeen's on tariq road.

  1. I don't know how you should wear the bangles, but if you get glass bangles, a good place to look is Uzma centre next to the old shawn (spelling?) circle in clifton.

  2. Apparently, meena bazaar is the hub of mehndi walis. You could also check out uroosa on fb. As for mehndi trends, I think it's upto you. I personally prefer the simple brown mehndi, and if your worried about chemical reactions etc, I would certainly not recommend black mehndi. It's dodgy IMO.

Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

would somebody else too plz bother to reply to my queries??? plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

bride in distress :( :( :(

Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

Why don't you get some formal dresses from Tariq road and get them stitched by your taylor! You should be able to find some nice stuff from Mohsin or Mekka in Rabi or from PLK. Or you can try something in Exclusive (Bahadrabad).
For lingerie, there's a store in Dolmen Mall tariq road, a store near shoe planet (Tariq road) or you can try London Boot House (Bahadrabad). They have a ladies section on second floor.
For mehndi, there are two girls Shiza and Saba in meena bazar.. they're good.. rest as GAF said, meena bazar is a hub.. you will find many skilled girls there and it depends on what you like..!!

Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

SGC u r a life-saver !! :D thanks a million

Try Jabeen's and the various boutiques along Zamzama. There are lots of clothing stores there with ready made's. Costume jewellery from Gulf- ask my aunt to take you to the store there where she took me for my kundan/pearl earrings. And if you can, remember the name of the store please? I've totally forgotten and a few girls on here want to know too!

Churiyan also from Gulf. There's lots of stores and variety.

I think Meena bazaar is the mehendi hub, but I've never been there. Ask my aunt!

Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

thanks so much all of you.:) atleast my khi shopping will ease a bit. Any suggestions of what's gifted to the groom apart from clothes, perfumes and a watch?

Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

^ anything you want! :)

UPDATE: my clothes are heeereee!!! and they are beautiful mA! Jabeen's did an excellent job!

Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

wow..great for you!!! :)

thats good to know...what kind of dresses did you order from them?

Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

^ I ordered a churidar for the mehendi- hot pink shirt, turquoise churidar and orange dupatta. it has kaam all over and is front open.
for the baraat, its a dark colour between purple and maroon with kaam all over, also front open but tailcoat style (longer in front than back), and with lots of gheyr. this is paired with a silvery/lilac lehenga and dupatta in same colours.
can't wait to wear them! :)

Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

^ ur clothes sound beautiful SGC!!!

Thanks Sanaad!!! btw what's PLK? Do u remember the name of the lingerie store next to Shoe Planet? Also, does London Boot House contain lingerie? I thought it was a shoe shop!
You have any idea which parlors/shops in meena bazar do these 2 girls shiza and saba work?

Thanks!!!

Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

If I remember correctly, PLK is located across Rabi Center. Sorry, but i don't remember the name of the store.. There is a lingerie store on the third floor of London Boot house.
The girls did my cousin's mehandi so i went there and inquired.. All the girls seem to know each other so finding them wasn't difficult.

They are mA! :D
I went to get them taken in a little bit today and tried them on with proper fitting and uff, I can't wait to wear them iA.

Isn't it English Boot House? Or is London Boot House a new store?
There's also a lingerie shop in The Forum mall.

Re: SGC's Review- Bridal Shopping in Karachi

rim jhim is amazing!!! i can gaurantee you will find something appealing to your eye, i got most my outfits made from them my favorite was a electric blue sari with silver kaam OMG it is STUNNING, the color and kaam is ridiculously good. I will go back to get outfits made for my wedding jahaiz

PLK is a bridal boutique (shop) for custom made bridals and formals and is in the same line as Jabeen’s. There is a lingerie shop in the same line as well. I think the name is Salamah. Meena bazaar is full of :lajawab: mehndi walis and lingerie items and you can bargain your heart away there.

Both are different stores, SGC. There is a lingerie store over London Boot House and has a sale of Rs. 500 on selected items.
