Good point. Then again, while we are saying that it is present there in KSA, we cannot discount that in general it is probably less prevalent than in the West
I don't understand why people assume Muslim countries do not have these problems. Its like they've put horse blinds on and don't want to admit their society is also normal and dysfunctional.
This is such a disturbing topic that we are about to discuss here. Its REAL and DISGUSTING.. Please tell me whats wrong with people who have sexual feelings for their siblings? How can they be so immoral? Do you know anybody or have you been a victim of sexual abuse?... How one should deal when your sibling tries to approach you in a sexual manner?
I dont know the difference between hormones or curiosity or real feelings, but in our last community, a desi teenage brother impregnated his younger sister. It was consensual but both were underage so no charges were filed. I heard that parents went back home after that incident.

Agree.
In fact there a lot of stuff that happens there that even more disturbing given that they are societies that follow a strong value system based on religious principle. Anyway, that's another topic :D
I agree, these kind of issues are not geographically restricted at all, and you should not generalise, these are real issues regardless of where it happens. In my job, unfortunately, I have come across a few cases like this (I work with homeless people along with other cases) and it's really upsetting seeing stuff like this happen. A couple of times I've come across girls who have run away from home because their father was abusing them, or in one upsetting case where the poor girl ran away from 5 male brothers who were all abusing her (and in that case it was a Pakistani family). Sick and very upsetting. It's sounds pretty sensational, and yet the mentality is such that it gets hushed up a lot and people are not made aware enough, and this is the real problem.
It is some people's mentality which makes this problem even worse, and makes it harder for the victim as they will find it very hard to report and very hard to cope with. This is the whole thing where 'badnaami' and culture comes in, there's such an emphasis on families rep that the victim will end up being the one to suffer. If this is happening it MUST be reported, if they don't they will end up carrying around a horrible burden their whole lives and feeling ashamed for something they didn't do.

I couldn't agree more with you.
People say divorce rates are soo much higher in the West...Eastern marriages are much more solid and all that. Its a bunch of hooey...Eastern marriages WERE built to last because women had less options back then. Ab kitnay logon ki marriages survive karti hein if you compare to our parents?
They say there is more physical abuse in the West...again more hooey. The difference is in the West women open their mouths and back home...they don't. They can't. They won't.
People THINK Muslim countries don't have these issues...but the reality is...they're simply good at hiding it. Nothing more than that.
p.s. - Im not saying one is better than the other. All Im saying is BOTH are highly dysfunctional in their own way.
^Nope, not her. I remember that too. It was Mackenzie Phillips, she wrote a book called "High on Arrival", didn't read it for obvious reasons but she has a very disturbing story.
I was very close to a pakistani muslim girl who was raped by her father from the age of 9-15. This kind of thing DOES happen. And it's scary.
Also if a FATHER can do this, there is NO REASON a brother can't.
Some of you who've said you dont think this kind of thing actually happens/never heard of things like this: JOSEPH FRITZL????
**I dont know how people can make the assumption that Pakistan wageyra mein nahin hota when even in the West most of these cases are unreported....if ppl dont report them in the west do you think they would In pakistan? NEVER!!!
these things do happen...and as much as we wud like to think our community is immune to such atrocities it is not...we're just as human and prone to being deviant as a Caucasian catholic for example...
please do not make the mistake of assuming it doesnt happen...because when you make that assumption you put up automatic blinders ...which leads to lack of awareness.... and awareness is the first step in helping prevent crimes like sexual abuse **
