There is no way that I could ever agree with you on this one. At age 13, they are still children. If you make this the age of consent, you are giving rights to all kinds of perverts to molest children. Its the responsibility of a parent to know what their children are up to - not the responsibility of irresponsible laws. A law should never be enacted just because "it happens anyway" yeah? I mean there are countless people who drive drunk or who smoke pot...does that mean it should be made legal?
Sorry. A 13 year old does not realize the full consequence of the meaning of "age of consent". So the legal "age of consent" should remain at an age that they can understand what it truly means.
Kids mature a lot early nowadays than they did before.
Parents tend to be over protective but a 13-14 year old today is no kid and they're certainly not ignorant of sex.
When the 18 yr old Age of Consent law came about in countries like England the kids reached puberty much later at about 15-16, now diets are better and kids mature much faster and are ready for sex at 13-14.
Kids don't always tell their parents everything about these things but they do have sex at 13-14, I'm a teen so I know what our generation are like better than older people.
So many girls in my class fancied older boys, they thought we their own age were too immature so they had much older boyfriends, they kept it a secret from parents and teachers to avoid getting their boyfriends in trouble, now as an older brother that's scary!!! Wouldn't you rather know about such a relationship? So that at least you could keep an eye on it and not have somebody take advantage of your child/sibling? If the girl feels she has to hide things from her family, tomorrow she might be forced to do something against her will and it'd be too late to just come out of the blue and tell anyone.
As long as they're not being hurt or forced or used for a one night stand, sex is not so bad.
You only think a 13 year old shouldn't have sex with someone older because your society has conditioned you to think that way, it's in your head just like I think my parents having sex is wronggg is in my head, it doesn't mean it's morally wrong.
Most of these older guys who were preppy types took good care of their young girlfriends, and there was definately romance and love in there but a few such relationships where the boyfriends were thugsters looked a bit worrying (gangbangs etc.) but these girls were mostly the trashy type anyway.
Why is sex so bad anyway? Why is it molestation? Why so tabboo in secular society? I can understand Muslims from Peshawar or Christians from Texas being opposed to it because their book says adultery/fornication is bad but it's not a bad thing according to secularist/atheist values.
Age difference should be no big deal if both partners want it and are above the age of puberty. Afterall we are all just people. People, people...

You know what's retarted? In England you can start having sex at 16 yet you can't watch hardcore sex porno (do the practical but just don't watch it) or act in a porno (if a 18 yr old posesses a homemade vid of their 16 yr old partner they'd be comitting a crime), that's retarted.
I say start teaching sex education at 12 and let those who want to get on with it at 13.
