Re: Severe petrol, furnace oil shortage hits country
This is absolutely pathetic. How the hell did this happen and why hasn’t it been solved yet? Esp since according to the dawn the PSO and other organs were warning about it since October 2014.
Re: Severe petrol, furnace oil shortage hits country
Many news channels were showing the letters written by (now fired,) PCO director to Govt about the anticipated shortage/default well before final breakdown but clowns in the Govt did not take that seriously I guess.
Re: Severe petrol, furnace oil shortage hits country
I told you, it was not the minister it was Boota Massish, the problem is, the letter written to the minister were in English or Urdu and our prestigious minister can only read and write Farsi and that is only the words which can get him his "things", same is his command in English and Urdu, had the "Boota Massih" told him that the shortage can create shortage in liquor and girls he would have acted then and there..
Re: Severe petrol, furnace oil shortage hits country
and the honorable minister saying the crisis is because ppl are using more petrol ??"
This is one of the stupidest statements I have heard from PMLN, apart from their usual everyday idiocies.
Hows does one buy 'more' petrol? Are people getting twice as much petrol pumped into their cars and bikes? 25 gallons in a civic as opposed to its 13 gallon capacity? 5 gallons in a bike as opposed to 2.5 gallons?
And no, they are not filling jerry cans either. The largest Ive seen is people coming in with 2 liter pepsi bottles.
The fact that this catastrophe occurred is one thing. But the blatantly stupid defense which PMLN officials have launched is even more catastrophic. The idea is to prevent any responsibility from hitting the big 3 (sharif brothers and ishaq dar), who are the actual culprits in this crime.
Re: Severe petrol, furnace oil shortage hits country
It is really sad that Pakistan is run by not-so-intelligent people, and then we say that why Pakistan is going down the drain?
Actually, I saw this (Off the Record … dated 20 the January) program today, and it really amazed me and also made me sad on the ignorance of the participants.
In the video we have many eminent personalities (Kashif Abbasi, Khurram Dastagir, Qamar Zaman kaira, Asad Umar, etc). Almost all are showing their lack of understanding or grasping the reality on ground.
Without commenting on blunder of ‘Thug Nawaz’ government, blunder that is obvious from the ability of the ministers, most worrying thing is ministers’ ability to understand, grasp and explain situations.
For instance, it is possible that Khurram Dastageer is lying or telling truth, but he did claim on TV program that government is supplying enough fuel to take care of daily fuel requirement.Unfortunately, he could not explain that if supply is increased, why people are still finding shortage?
Obviously, from their questions, Kashif, Kaira and Asad Umar were unwilling to buy what Khuram Dastagir was claiming, considering his claim as absurd. According to them, if government has increased the supply equal to requirement, why people are making queues and feeling pinch of shortage. Unfortunately, Khurram Dastagir facing such questions could not convince what he was claiming.
To me, regardless of Khurram Dastagir was lying or telling truth, he should have had ability to convince Kashif, Kaira and Asad Umar that what he is saying is true (I believe, most likely, Dastagir was saying true that government has increased supply equal to requirement). Most surprising was that even though Dastagir could not give convincing answer,Kaira, kashif and Umar could not grasp that it is possible that Khurram Dastagir was telling truth.
Well … let me explain how Khuram Dastagir could have given convincing answer (assuming that he was telling truth). He should have made clear that:
No excuse for fuel shortage (as government should have acted earlier) … still, his (Khurram Dastagir) claim that normal demand in country was 12000 ton of fuel daily that abruptly increased by 30 percent due to decrease in fuel price (and close down of LNG), increasing demand to 15600 tons daily, thus the shortage. Facing situation, government has increased the supply to 15600 ton of fuel daily (according to Khurram Dastagir claim), hence fuel shortage is not there, and queue would go within days.
Question arises that, if what Khurram Dastageer is telling truth than why still people are finding shortage?
Answer is that: There is steady state daily demand of fuel. This (amount of fuel) is what people not only buy daily but spend daily too. If people would buy more than daily demand than their fuel tank would not be able to take extra fuel. Over this steady state demand there are fuel reserves with people (in their car tank).
For instance:
Amjad fills his car with 30 liters of fuel but uses only 5 liters daily. That means, Amjad fill his tank every 6 days.
Ashraf fills his car with 40 liters of fuel but uses only 10 liters daily. That means, Ashraf fill his tank every 4 days.
And so on … that means, under steady state condition, cars would be holding two sorts of fuels in tank, one that car uses daily and other is reserve fuel in the car tank.
Now as demand increased and fuel became short, people in 4 to 6 days spent all their reserve fuel. It means when supply increased (to 15600 tons) people’s car had no reserve. These cars would be short of fuel until reserve level is reached and then only collectively they would start taking steady state level of fuel (daily required fuel).
Worse is when petrol station is supplying less fuel (as claimed by Kaira in program), then people would keep moving from pumps to pumps, spending more fuel to get fuel (and reach their reserve or comfort level) and thus it would create artificial demand (increased demand over 15600 ton, what government thinks).
And that means, even when government has increased the supply (as government claims), people are still finding shortage of fuel, because they collectively want to go back to their reserve fuel situation in their car (what they had before demand increased).
That means (also advice to the government), if demand has really increased by 30 percent (as claimed) and now it is 15600 ton, then, after long shortage of fuel, to stablise and bring steady state situation back (where demand get pegged to 15600 tons daily), government do not need to increase supply to 15600 ton, but have to increase initial supply to at least 30000 tons to 50000 tons, so that reserve state of fuel in car of consumers (as well as pumps) get back to steady state, and than only steady state buying would come back. Else, even if government increases the supply to 15600 tons (equal to required demand), then fuel shortage would never end. … On the other hand, if daily demand is still 12000 tons and supply is increased to 15600 tons, than eventually steady state condition would reach, but it would takes several weeks.
I think government has to understand this two requirements of fuel, one amount related to daily requirement of fuel and other amount that stays in tank and petrol station, something it seems, Khurram Dastageer and government is not able to comprehend, and people in opposition were not able to point out, what they should.
