Servants more than relatives

Have read and watched in many dramas that there used to be servants in old families, who passed all their life servicing the family and got an important status in the family. The young children were taught to respect them and they were called buwa, kaka, khala, baba, etc.

Does this tradition prevail today?

On topic, have you ever seen characters like ‘Ramu Kaka’ in real life?

Re: Servants more than relatives

Yes i had seen such servant cum family members...........:)

Re: Servants more than relatives

Means the tradition still prevails. I think now this tradition is restricted to rural areas where relationships still have some meaning. In urban life, people don't have time for their parents and children :(

Servants more than relatives

I don think that this tradition prevail now,in old days servants were also given in drowy ...

Re: Servants more than relatives

I am from rural india................:)

Re: Servants more than relatives

No I never had/seen such people except in movies:)

Re: Servants more than relatives

Yes they were given in dowry. some servants then used to claim 'maine tumhari amma ko bhi khilaya tha aur ab tumhare bachon ko bhi khila rahi hoon'.

Re: Servants more than relatives

Yes v have tht servant in r house she started working when my mum pa got married n v call her masi :D

Re: Servants more than relatives

I don't think respect for servants is present in most cases now.

Servants more than relatives

I hv seen some ppl saying hamarai ghar mein har kam k liyai naukr hain....they don call them wid their names instead of using word naukar!

Re: Servants more than relatives

Overall relationships started deteriorating in our society. We feel happy that now we celebrate Mothers day like western countries, but we are missing the point that we are rapidly going towards 'old age home' concepts. :(
