The very same people who are crying about Jaswant Singh’s book being banned were clamoring for the Danish cartoonist, Salman Rushdie & Tasleema Nasreen’s heads. Looks like they recently realized the concept of “freedom of speech”.
So you ban a book because a small trouble making minority have a problem?
Thats why we have police and law enforcement. They are there to protect our liberties, including academic freedom.
This isnt pragmatism, its cowardice.
You should read Farenheit 451. It shows how censorship in the guise of pragmatism, is just another example of the road to hell being paved by good intention.
And why not is because it turns your society into a nation of intelectulal and social bumpkins.
Gujarath is a state which is ruled by BJP. Any social trouble will call for lot of trouble to the state. Hence it is banned in Gujarath. I do not support any ban, cause it is meaningless to ban in one state, when it is freely available in the neighbouring state, and it will be more of a symbolic gesture. But, that will help in cooling the nerves. Police and Law enforcement can do their duty, but the polity can do much more.
Matsui odd isn't it that you then support the banning of the book yet openly stated that these people have the right to defame Islam and that their freedom of speech should be respected?
Oh yes it takes two to tango. One man can not divide a country. Nehru and Gandhi did their part as well.
no...jinnah was not responsible for partition, but your people' lust for blood, that jinnah exploited very smartly and presented us a sample at noakhali...only some thousand unbeleivers were slayed.
Thanks for making my point. Each post you make, you simply make to discredit Jinnah. The ignorance is ingrained in you. We are not discussing Jinnah.
We are discussing Indian democracy, which bans books and punishes people for their freedom of speech!
Now what can I do of ur multiple biases? Its not Indian democracy which has banned the book, but one state which contribute 5% of total Indian population. Again its nothing to do with Indian democracy if a party has expelled one of its leader for his remarks which were not in accordance with their Principals. I hope this clears ur misunderstanding my dear friend.
Jaswant Singh also says in the book that in the latter part of their lives both Gandhi & Jinnah were failures. Do you agree with that too ?
Obviously you have not read the book, so why don't you shut up ??
I did not read the book, but could not agree more with the statement...
Jinnah wanted to make a liberal secular Pakistan and today we have likes of Hamid Gul mentality who brought us to the situation we are in today...
Gandhi wanted to make a tolerant peceful India where everyone could co exist...today you have likes of Varun Gandhi (your personal hero from a previous thread) leading masses to self destruction...
Both these leaders failed badly eventually...
My dear Hindu Talliban friend, you may disagree with what JS said in his book but you can not take away his right to say things...instead of defending every wrong doing in your society as your divine mission...just for once learn to see things without blind biases !
Asking someone to shut up reflects a mind frame which makes you no different from Pakistani/Islamic Taliban !
Ya true .. Indians should appreciate the person who was responsible for partition of the country. Then maybe the Pakistanis should begin appreciating Mujib too.
i can assure you if you go through our tv discussions we blame that on ourselves without a shame many of the books has been written on him and we say we created a situated which created the reasons for bangladesh so chill out , we had military rule for 30 years but as society we are free to say what we want to say.
^ There is democracy within the party as long as you stay true to the basic party principles. If you go totally against them, you don't belong in the party. Whats so difficult to understand here ?
i simply dont understand our indian friends here, when it comes to india they simply start defending the each and every idiotic thing with loose arguments...
okay Jaswant singh did wrong based on party rules but did they served him notice, did they listen to him in person here was a man who gave 30 years to the party you cant just kick them and for what he belives in that is no democracy but mockery...
Jinnah' Direct Action Plan left thousands dead at Noakhali and Gandhi went on hunger strike for peace in the region and actually achieved it.
so for you direct action plan equals to hindu muslim riots, it was not that but a protest movement but it laid to riots and you know how as in those situations angels intervene and create a situation that is what happening regularly in india.
dont blame that on jinnah but what and how india was and somehow we both are today.
It is not double speak my friend, it is called being pragmatic. The majority of the people might be OK with the book, but it is always a small minority, that can create trouble. So, if that can bring in peace and save some property, and lives, then why not ?
i agree but where that logic when pakistan is discussed...
