Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

Seems like opinions are turning against PTI’s Taliban appeasement policy.

Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban - thenews.com.pk

ISLAMABAD: Legislators across the aisle in the Senate on Monday unleashed a scathing attack on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan for allegedly sabotaging the national consensus on the Taliban being the enemies of Pakistan and Islam by calling them ‘our own people’ and pleading talks with them.

They shared a consensus that ever since the PTI had formed the government in KP, the law and order and security situation had deteriorated there. They added the trend of extortion was increasing in the province and industrialists were shifting to the Punjab. Senator Zahid Khan of the ANP said the Taliban viewed the PTI as their political wing.

The federal government was also criticised for being indecisive and sticking to the policy of drifting stalemate despite passage of six months since it came to power. It was regretted that despite the fact it was subsequently given a clear mandate by the all-party conference to either hold talks with the militants or use force against them, it failed to move forward either way.

The performance of the PTI-led government also came under massive attack from the senators on both sides of the divide, as ANP’s Haji Muhammad Adeel raised on a point of order the issue of killings of his party activist Mian Mushtaq, Aitzaz Hasan and the attack on PML-N leader Amir Muqam.

Though it was a private members’ day, Senate Chairman Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari suspended the rules to allow a debate on the issue, as lawmakers strongly condemned the wave of terrorism and rise in crimes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Adeel recalled the previous government in the province had taken the challenge of terrorism head-on notwithstanding the fact that scores of ANP workers and policemen were targeted. He added presently the law-enforcement agencies could not fight, as there was no political ownership around. “How can they take action against the Taliban, who are called brothers by Imran?” he retorted.

PPPP’s Mian Raza Rabbani charged the provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was not taking ownership of the things there. However, he focused on the Centre and lamented that the government had failed to adopt a clear policy and make headway on the issue of terrorism, being its subject.

He proposed to the government to summon a joint in-camera sitting of the two houses of parliament and explain with which militant groups it was holding talks. He asked why the Senate, already in session, was not taken into confidence thereon.

The parliament, the security establishment, political parties, the masses, being the biggest stake-holders, he contended, should know what progress Interior Minister Ch Nisar had talked about in his latest media conference.

ANP’s Afrasiab Khattak said his party’s government had given political ownership to the law-enforcement agencies in the province while today, the provincial government was losing its writ and ‘Fatafication’ of the province’s settled areas was under way.

He asked PTI leadership and the provincial government not to link the law and order to Taliban, being a provincial subject. He added uneven economic opportunities were forcing industrialists to shift to Punjab.

Muzaffar Hussain Shah of PML-F called for having a review of the whole issue and to ponder over what steps the government needed to take in the interim period and till what time, the issue of terrorism would be resolved and with which Taliban factions, talks were to be held. He emphasised the government must establish its writ during the interim period.

He warned the drifting stalemate should not persist and insisted the parliament must also chalk out a line of action on the issue and without any further delay.

PPPP Senator Farhatullah Babar said he was not disappointed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister but by the leader of a political party, alluding to Imran Khan, and today the entire nation was also disappointed. He alleged this leader’s biggest cruelty was that he sabotaged the national consensus that the militants were enemies of Pakistan, who wanted to occupy the state of Pakistan and impose their own brand of Islam.

“It was said that militants are ‘our brothers’ and if drones and Nato supplies are halted, terrorism will be over and that if talks can be held with India, being a state, why not with terrorists and this way the state narrative was damaged beyond repair,” he charged.

He said a historian would never forget and forgive the person, who destroyed consensus and lamented that even the law-enforcement agencies stood demoralised in KP.

The ruling PML-N’s parliamentary party leader Senator Mushahidullah Khan said what the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was doing was in line with what was being expected of it. “Imran has become Mayoos Khan and even the chief minister is short of idea what to do after the occurrence of a terrorist attack,” he retorted.

He said the KP was under attack while PTI leadership was criticising Punjab government and said this was how school kids behave at times.

The senator said the government of Punjab was ready to help Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in dealing with law and order.

Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of JUI-Fazl alleged that it appeared the government was not serious and said if Imran believed the PTI chief minister had disappointed him, then he himself should take over the provincial government.

On a motion moved by Senator Saeed Ghani of PPPP, besides him, Senators Shahi Syed and Abdul Rauf alleged that the May 11 elections were massively rigged. Ghani proposed that the Senate should have a review of the powers of the Election Commission of Pakistan, for it had failed despite tall claims to hold rigging-free polls.

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

IK still considers Pakistani politics as cricket. He has no idea how to deal complex issues. After more than 16 years in politics, he has not learned any thing. Allying with failure party JI will ultimately fail him and his party. He said many good things but later he made u-turns on those issues.

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

It's not seems to be u turn things. Billi thele se baher a gai hai what he doing is what in his mind the day not so far when public start throwing tometo or eggs on him( still better than stones)

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

Its good that pressure is increasing on PTI. Apparently their appeasement has not worked, now they should ensure peace in the province.

Really? Really? Pakistanis and Pakistani politicians collectively have memory of a goldfish. How low will people stoop to play politics?

KPK under PTI had one the most peaceful and violence free Muharram period, despite the high alert revenge warning from the Taliban for Mehsud's death (same was the case in Punjab), minorities remained unharmed during Christmas time and no Shrines are being attacked to mark the Rabi ul Awal. These are the things that were regular occurance during previous governemt. It was under ANP's era where people couldn't even attend Friday sermons without risking a rib and a limb. Parties like ANP, PPP and MQM should be the last parties on earth to lecture anyone about controlling 'terrorism'. How peaceful country was and is under their administrated areas is preschool level common knowledge.

PTI should not let bunch of bellicose losers distract them, their policies are perfectly in synch with the policies with the armed forces and the federal government. If anything, it's about time Imran play real politics for once and put the entire responsibility on army and Federal governemt's shoulder. There's not any need to waste a single second explaining war strategies. Why should Imran talk about the things that are meant to be talked about by army's spokesman? I would assume that War Office would fall under PMLN'd domain or do they even have such department to begin with?

Those are now thinking of raising riots in Parliament had full five years to put things in order but we all know the wonders they achieved.

Yawn(^_^)
Save my province

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

Whether pressure mounts or not, Imran cannot give up support for Taliban. That is the basis of his politics.
Probably a PTI minus Imran would be able to change its policy over Taliban but not Imran.

To make Imran supporters happy, I say that all this criticism of appeasing Taliban will not be the reason to make any dent in Imran's popularity. A lot of people will continue to support him on Taliban issue because majority of Pakistanis are still pro-Taliban at their core. They don't like Taliban violence against Pakistan but they agree fully with pseudo-Islam Taliban espouse.

So these political criticisms don't mean much. Imran will continue working on policies which are destroying the country, and he will have support of many Pakistanis in this task.

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

Criticism from political opponents does not mean that the tide against PTI is turning. It is people who have given them votes, and we don't know what they think.

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

So do you blame Imran for this or the state itself which has fed propaganda to the masses during the past 40 years?

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

Lets assume we all agree that PTI's stance is wrong....now can someone explain how that stance is keeping the PMLN led federal govt from taking any action or making any decisions? Any ideas on what brand PPP govt was smoking for the past 5 years when they were (not) making all those anti-terrorism moves and (not) ridding Pakistan of violence?

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

Do not listen to these ANP losers of senate, the conditions in the province have relatively improved compared to their period. Taliban issue aside, corruptions and bribery in departments has dropped to minimum level. Governament servants are doing their duty with regular and full attendance due to strictness. just visit peshawer and you would observe that roads and their sides are relatively clean, which means municipal committee is doing its duty properly.

Taliban is a federal issue to deal with, they mostly operate from FATA. Moreover army not police is dealing with them which again is under federal government.

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

  1. Can anyone tell me if PML-N has decided that TTP are enemies of Pakistan?
  2. Can anyone tell me if PML-N has stopped supporting LeJ? and other extremists thriving in south Punjab?
  3. Can anyone tell me if PML-N has hanged the convicted terrorists?
  4. What stopped PPP from hanging convicted terrorists?

Lets bring out all the supporters, sympathizers and cowards out and tomatofy them.

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

Bhai, Yeh Sircus hai Sircus. Its hugely ironic that parties like ANP, PPP & MQM are now pointing fingers towards PTI because of the terror in the country. Was they sleeping in their tenure? As u said, why didn't they hang those terrorists? Why didn't they launch a huge operation against TTP and LEJ? Today they are calling other cowards, but they itself couldn't do a jack! If they were so concerned about these terror groups, why didn't their made a anti-terror policy? What did they do was to escape from these issues and had none knowledge about their solutions.

Aaj sheir bann kar dosro ko buzdil kehte hai....

Peace talk or not, but PTI at least show urgency to tackle this rising issue. They have also said that launch operations against those who don't want to talk and thats what all parties on this so called ACP agreed, but thats a decision which has to be taken by the Federal Gov. Topi drama at it best!

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

That was the biggest blunder done by PPP government and consequently faced disaster in the last elections. Rest of your questions can be answered by "Registaani Panchi" who right now is busy in buttering Shahbaz Sharif by posting multiple, digital photographs, showing how he is making Punjab much much better than Quaid's Pakistan.:)

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

NO... PPP lost the election is not the consequence of not hanging terrorists, there are many reasons behind PPP loss.

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

I do not think that any government could do anything to stop their militancy specially the suicide bombing. When these mad people are ready to die and kill - none can stop them.

If you negotiate them then they will think that they are winner and they would like to impose their strict version again in Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan where they get control.

As these people have their endorsement from people like Moulana Yousuf Ludhiwani and others (he visited Afghanistan and then endorsed that Osama was complying with the Hadees of exodus of Kuffar from Hijaz and that their hosts taleban are also on the right path!

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

There are 2 sides of debates one argues that Taliban are evil, and 2, people who are argue that Taliban good. IK is part of 2 pushing narratives that negative settlement the way to go. PTI and IK are undermining the govt and armed forces by pushing the 2nd narrative in public support for action against the Taliban.

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

Terrible, terrible piece of propaganda, four lines full of lies and complete misinformation.

Prove it that the only reason armed forces are not considering military operation is because the great Sir Imran Khan said so!

Musharraf was anti Imran, the last government was anti Imran, the last army chief had no apparent affiliation with Imran, and the current government considers PTI and Imran as their main opponent so please for once just tell us who exactly is dancing on Imran’s tunes?

Sometimes I think likes of you are biggest fans of Imran or something, the fact people like you think that Imran runs the entire world and controls every living thing on this planet earth can put some of his biggest admires to shame. Now that’s seriously delusional and record breaking infatuation with Imran.

Re: Senate rises against PTI for siding with Taliban

^^^Who has stopped IK to come out openly and say what you are saying? Or are you spokes person for him? The apprehensions in the minds of people are due to silence on this key issue and diverting all wrath to America rather than at least condemning these ‘maut ke saudagar’.

For me this was major failure. You think what you like.
