Self-Grooming tips?

I don’t have any older sisters or cousins to help me out and my mum isnt into modern looks. Any tips on how not to look like a paindu at Pakistani functions? I dont want to look paindu anymore (not that paindu is a bad thing). I dont know what i do wrong that makes the aunties and the other Pakistani girls look down on me, i’m not a dumbass, just I was born and raised in Australia, so whatever look i try to achieve it ends up getting ready like the gori girls eg minimal makeup and minimal accessories. Is there anyone out there to help me?!

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

KS09.

Having minimal makeup and little accessories is not paindu at all. Infact it can look quite elegant. Having red lipstick blue eyeshadow and 500kilos of yellow gold all over your body is not a good look!

Anyway. Its all good trying to look better but do it for yourself :)

Makeup is fun! So why dont you watch some youtube videos on how to apply makeup and have a practice?

Are the events in pakistan or aus?

p.s. I love australia i want to move there.

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

-eyebrows

-upper lip

-nails

-hair

-properly fitting clothes

-good shoes

-minimal jewelry

-good skin

-if you're not skinny, get skinny..only if you think it's an issue.

  • i hope you're not of those ABCDs who walk in with a kurta half their size paired with jeans. and some ugly sneakers. not so cool anymore.

-take care of all of the above.

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

oh, and makeup. do what suits you..if you're not good at it, start with minimal stuff...kaajal/eyeliner makes a huge diff and you'll slowly learn to build a whole look =)

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

yeah i dunno what's up with desi girls wanting big hair and tons of eyeliner and mascara and caked faces with lots of blush and foundation and whatever the heck else they wanna slab on for a special occasion.

i always thought minimal was best. sometimes, i'll do a flick of liquid eyeliner but now that it's hot, i don't even do that. like molly said, make sure you have good skin, clean face (get your eyebrows and upper lip done etc) and maintain nice healthy shiny hair rather than backcombing the crap out of it, and also try to wear something that doesn't seem to show your izzats spilling out. jhgbdlkfgkldf, always have to fix my damn kameezein. curvy elegance is nice ;] not slutty boobies and bum galore.

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

KS09, don't let other peoples attitude get to you. You be confident about yourself. Feel good from within, dress sharp and smell good.

A few tips, review some fashion mags for new styles as far as makeup is concerned. These days lip stains seem to be in...so you can get a soft look. I usually just wear a tinted moisturizer, an eyeliner and a lip color. As far as desi outfits are concerned, you know what's trendy but most importantly, stick to what looks good on you. Get a nice hair cut and learn to manage your hair.

But above all, feel good about yourself.

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

Kangi, surma, some khushboh

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

Shak, we don’t want to know what YOU do.

Btw, that reminded me of this definition of cheaponess:

Galey mein lau lockit
reyd comb in beck pockit
rat phati jeans on phat phati moped

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

I have Allah ka diya hua noor I don’t need anything

beck pockit :rotfl:

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

Very good pointers^ but remember, hairstyle is important too! Make sure your hair is healthy and the style suits your face. Straight hair looks good but only if its not 4 ft. long (sigh, WHO MADE THAT SEXY?!?!??!), keep your hair at max above your hips if you like them long, waist length looks great. Make sure your haircut flatters your hair type or at least have the ends trimmed.

Also, please do not open your hair and call it a hairstyle when it is poufy and dry looking (i was trying to find a picture but couldn't find the type I am referring to but it is very paindu hairstyle, esp. when that kind of hair is ulra long and parted from the center), it looks like they just opened their braid and parted it, brushed it too and poufed it out and ta-da!

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

Practise ALOT and you will eventually realise thru trial and error what make up styles suits you :) all of the above is also VERY good info!

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

thanks girls/guy

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

Thanks so much everyone for your help. Means a lot and very appreciated. On another point, if you ever see a desi gal in need of help can you please help her and at the same time not make her feel bad? There have been many occasions where i've kind of had to go through whole functions sitting on my own cos i wasn't good enough to sit with the other women.

Also, i've been ordering from prototype on here, so rest assured my clothes are not bad or cheap!

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

One more thing that i want to add that usually gives a paindu impression of others in my mind is:

  • If you wear heavy chandelieur earrings, keep the clothes simple and plain preferably. Dont over do it all with heavy clothes plus very heavy earrings unless they are the sort that are jelling well.

-Don't wear tonnes of chim chim jewellery, keep it simple but not as simple as any ordinary day

-The type of shoes really classifies for me the person's choice. Big buckles, huge chimku designs on shoes are a no no! Too much lacy stuff again a no!

-Lipstick: This has got to be THE most important factor. Avoid colours like shocking pink, bright red, golden shades. Also, i have noticed matt look gives a bit of an aunty look and a glossy lips dont make you look that old

-By the way, blackening your eyes with kajal, eye liner, hashmi surma or even smokey eye make up is considered cool here

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

The fastest way to look paindu is to wear something that is very outdated

theres nothing wrong with heavy makeup sometimes either, sometimes a girl wants to play around and have fun....minimal isn't the only way to look nice.

Heavy makeup doesn't always mean "paindu" it can look nice too.

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

showering everyday and using fragrance ! Also washing face every Morning and Night for clean healthy skin:)

washing clothes after every time you have worn it:D

Good luckk!!

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

My hairs are exactly like that :(..I don't know what to do to them?:(

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

oh ofcourse it can. but there are occasions for it and you have to have the right clothing, accessories for it.

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

KS09, you sound pretty fashionable to me=\ i am not quite sure where you're going wrong :D

and yea dye the mehndi hair a diff color!

Re: Self-Grooming tips?

Well, if u are just seeing someone at a davat or wedding and dont' know them at all....why should we assume that they're "in need of help"....wouldn't that be more insulting than just not sitting with them? Imagine a stranger comnig up to you and saying...."you're choice of clothes/hair/makeup is wrong, let me help you"...i think thats more offensive.

Otherwise if its someone you know and they're going to make you feel bad, then to hell with them...because they are likely to make u feel bad for other reasons as well.
