Selector files complaint against Farhat

It wasnt just the father in law having a go at it with selectiors, Farhat himself wants some answers from the selectiors.

Selector files complaint against Farhat

Salahuddin Ahmed, the chief selector of the PCB, has filed an official complaint against Imran Farhat, after the opener dissented at being left out of the Pakistan squad for the Abu Dhabi series against Sri Lanka. The development comes on the heels of a public rift between the selector and Mohammad Ilyas, the former Test opener and father-in-law of Farhat.

Salahuddin told The News that the national selection committee has sent a complaint to the board recommending disciplinary action against Farhat after he called up the selector and asked why he was left out of the squad.

“We have filed a complaint against Imran Farhat for trying to interfere with selection matters,” said Salahuddin, a former Test cricketer. “It was a violation of the code of conduct. No player is allowed to talk to the chief selector or other members of the selection committee and raise objection over the selection process.”

According to Salahuddin Farhat asked, **“Why wasn’t I selected in the team? What was my fault? I have no contract and if I can’t be in the team what would become of my future? You will have to give me a reason why I was not considered?” **

Farhat was quoted by a local agency denying any misbehaviour. “I just met the selectors and asked the reasons behind my exclusion but, they snubbed me and told me that selection committee is not answerable to any player.” Dawn also reported, quoting sources, that Farhat later apologised to the selectors and assured them of their full cooperation in the future.

Farhat has not been a part of Pakistan’s ODI plans in recent months, missing the ODI series against South Africa and the World Cup. The selectors opted instead for Salman Butt and Imran Nazir as openers in the 16-man squad for the series against Sri Lanka.

Farhat’s protest came just a day after his father-in-law Ilyas exchanged heated words with Salahuddin and selection committee member Shafqat Rana soon after the Pakistan team was named in Lahore. Ilyas reportedly lost his cool when he discovered that Farhat had not been picked, ending the altercation with the words, “the war is now on.” Ilyas told Dawn, “It is not a threat but a fact that the selectors did not make the selection fairly and it will ruin the career of many youngsters. If they consider it a threat, let them.”

An official notification about his behaviour has also been sent to the board. Farhat faces a fine for alleged violation of the PCB code of conduct.

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

Final nail in the coffin I would say. Farhat should be gone now untill the next selection committee is formed I guess.

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

**You will have to give me a reason why I was not considered?"

** Ahh, Imran Farhat, the caveman, there can only be 14 players in the squad, and selectors picked the 14 they thought were the best among the available pool. You speak as though you had been scoring centuries all year long! go home boy!

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

Usually, players are well within their rights to seek info regarding the reason for their exclusion from the squad. The theory being that having this info would enable the player to improve upon the department that they are seemingly lacking in.
And selectors are not allowed to answer..."because you suck bigtime"....when asked.

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

"apnay paon pe kulhari marna"

doesn't ^ fit on Imran Farhat? I thought it was only his susar who was dumb but may be Ilyas was doing it on Farhat's behalf, seeing that susar was unable to earn him a recall he took the matter in his own hands, shmuck.

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

I am very sure that when players are in the team and they fail in games/practice sessions coach and captain tell them about their mistakes and try to help them, so by asking the selectors reason for not getting selected sort of shows issue(s) of different nature in a player :D

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

While I am not a big Farhat fan, this whole selectors treating themselves as demi-gods is just completely illogical, moronic and unfathomable. What is stopping selectors from providing a reasonable answer to a reasonable question? Why are they suddenly insulted if someone asks them to explain their decisions?

And this Salahuddin dude... you know, in my mind he came in with a clean slate, since I don't knew much about him. But first with the whole pushing Afridi's name to be VC and now this filing a complaint with PCB... I think the guy is a jackass. I know its too early for me to say, but the signs clearly point towards a classic jackass. Too bad he is now actually being paid to be that.

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

^ I think selectors should be answerable to their higher-ups (chief) not lower-downs (players, gardeners etc.), if they still have to answer to guys like Farhat then they should answer to each domestic player why they are not selected for national team.

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

As I said before, any one who asks a reasonable question should be provided a reasonable answer. People with too much ego are part of the problem and not part of the solution.

Anyone who says "I am not answerable to you", simply means "I don't have a good answer to your question so I am going to hide behind some archaic rule that allows me to avoid answering to you"

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

I agree to an extent, if Inzi, Yousuf, Younis or even Malik had asked selector had they not selected them in that case it would make sense, but Farhat????

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

Those who think its Sallu's fault or the SC as a whole are way off target. The issue exploded not that becuase after being dropped Imran approached the SC and professionaly asked for reasoning behind his exclusion. Or that he cited that he wanted to know his faults so that he can take notes for career improvement. Rather it became a mess after his esteemed father-in-law made it into a "plea of the peasants who who just got looted by highway bandits" by announcing to the world that his son-in-law had been 'done in' by the SC and PCB.
Farhat coming and asking for evidence after that stunt only provided more catalyst to our ever reliable short tempered officials.
Then and only after that did Sallu file the complaint. So please make sure you keep things in perspective. Yes our officials are egotistical but who isn't in the sports world. Malcolm speed or Percy Sonn are certainly not an embodiment of humility are they? And they are the heads of ICC that runs cricket!

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

I agree 100% with this. Because had sasur Ilyas not approached the SC and only Farhat did asking for the reasons then it would not have blown up to this magnitude. But since the SC was already pissed at him, now Farhat approaching them blew their top off.

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

As I said before I am no fan of Imran Farhat. I don't think he even deserves to be in the national team. He is temperamental, inconsistent and relies more on luck than technique. Most importantly PCB has given him so many chances in the past and he was never able to cement his place in the team. All these are perfectly good reasons that anyone with rudimentary knowledge about Farhat's track record can give easily. Even if he doesn't agree with those, its his choice. But to file a complaint agains him for asking reasons for dropping him smacks of arrogance. To say that he "interfered in selection process" is hillarious. And to hold against him, what his FIL said earlier is a mockery of all common sense. Those who are linking FIL with SIL and trying to say "its all ok" should take a step back. If our SC gets pissed off so easily and so quickly that they are unable even to hold a conversation, then I am sorry, they are unfit to be in that position. Thats just my opinion. You can have your own opinion on this and I am not necessarily trying to convince you to change your mind. This is what a conversation is all about.

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

Faisal bhai, you do realize his susar is also involved in the act and has been threatening the selectors everytime his stupid damaad is dropped?

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

I realize that, but you cannot penalize a person for what their sussr, chacha, tayya, bhateeja or uncle says or does. Its irrelevant. If Sallu a.k.a. I-want-Afridi-as-Vice-Captain wants, he can file a police-case against Illyas charya.

Imran Farhat: fined for off-field dissent © AFP

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a fine on Imran Farhat following the telephone call he made to chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed.
Farhat, who opened the Pakistan batting till recently, dissented to being left out of the Pakistan squad for the Abu Dhabi series against Sri Lanka. “The board provided a fair chance of clarification to Imran Farhat after the matter was brought to its notice,” the board said in a media release.
“However, after the complete review of the matter, the board has sanctioned Imran with 50% of his match fee for the first match that he now plays for Pakistan. Furthermore, Imran will also be on 6 months probation in which he will be constantly monitored for his behaviour and attitude.”
According to Salahuddin, Farhat asked, “Why wasn’t I selected in the team? What was my fault? I have no contract and if I can’t be in the team what would become of my future? You will have to give me a reason why I was not considered?”
“The punishment has been kept lenient,” the release added, “considering the facts that this was only the first offence committed by Imran Farhat and he also submitted a written apology for this to the board. This further strengthens PCB’s stance to have no compromise in the disciplinary matters.”
Farhat has not been a part of Pakistan’s ODI plans in recent months, missing the series in South Africa and the World Cup. The selectors opted instead for Salman Butt and Imran Nazir as openers in the 16-man squad for the series against Sri Lanka.

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

Good job.

Together with his father-in-law, their inquiries amounted to 'intimidation' and 'confrontation' of the selector and not just mere curiosity about why he wasn't selected. The selector in question did a good job filing an official complaint. If Imran Farhat couldn't figure out why he wasn't picked, he should have gone through the official channels and respectfully asked the reasons for his omission in writing. These direct telephone calls to selectors and on the ground confrontation are not very professional. This is an international team we are talking about, not your highschool outfit that you can just pick up the phone and ring whoever you want.

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

wait a second, what if he (Farhat) never plays again? means no punishment at all?

Re: Selector files complaint against Farhat

Now his FIL should also be fined, I think it would be better if he is sent to jail for just 1 month.
