Secular Aunty Shamim Confesses (still want evidence?)

Re: Secular Aunty Shamim Confesses (still want evidence?)

Im afraid your reading the article incorrectly. In no way does the article say that Shamim did confess, they remain allegations, albeit arguably more corroborated ones.

While the molvies who abducted a woman and held her hostage till she "changed her views" and "promissed to serve Islam" in a press conference are idiots, the police who took money for her and did not act on complaints are criminal too.

Vigilante "sharia court" justice is never acceptable, and everyone, no matter how notorious they are, deserves a fair trial by the state, with due process. If everyone is allowed to enforce the law as they see fit then your validating Karo-Kari and other jirga based judgements (give him your daughter for killing his goat etc).

The answer is working within the system as it currently works and working to change the system meanwhile. There could have been various legal ways of shutting down auntie shamim's business. Snap a few pictures of MPs going in and out of the place and see how long she would've lasted. Prosititution usually mandates anonymity in Pakistan. Protest outside the house as much as you want.

The women shamim trapped are still most likely trapped women. Brothels continue to exist in Islamabad. The police are still under the pay of various aholes. The business she was running is still probably going to be running wherever she is now. If they merely wanted her to leave the area they could've done it much more easily, but they needed to create a spectacle, and demonstrate their authority/dadageeri, the same way other groups have done in the past, such as MQM. Thats why people are opposed to them.
