Sectarianism in Islam

What is the authenticity of the hadith that Prophet :saw2: said that in my ummah there will be 73 sects and out of them 72 will go to hell fire and only one will go to jannah? I feel that our uneducated mullahs are (mis) using this hadith to spread sectarianism in the muslim world. Every sect considers themselves to be the true follower of the religion and all the others as weak muslims/murtads/kafirs and then some groups consider murtads to be wajib ul qatl.

Every one should try to read about other sects, and even debate with them to remove the doubts logically but debates to show one better than the others leads to the intolerance that rules the country presently.

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

Ali, I have a question for u.....in Pakistan, Deobandis are by far the most militant type responsible for violence and killings......tell me why then in Deoband India, where they have their central madressa and home and the city they were founded, they do not even shoot down a bird let alone a Hindu or a Shia or a Barelvi?

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

Government of India is the reason. There they don't get inside / outside support and funding for such foolishness.Even todate, rural Sindh is less affected by this militant version of Islam, because Sufism have deep roots in that society.

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

Exactly.....thus Ali is looking for answers in the wrong forum....for the 2nd half of his question anyway.....

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

So can we safely assume that this issue is localized in Pakistan only?

There is a bayan of molana Tariq jamil on YouTube in which he says that Ahmed raza barelvi sb called the founders of deoband kafirs, similarly deobandis call barelvis as bidaati's and some call them Mushriqs (especially due to the Peeri mureedi and Mazaroun pay jaana). Going ahead this is one reason why taleban have attacked mazaars in Pakistan.

Anyways in the university where I used to study deobandis and barelvis used to pray together but the ahl e Hadith used to pray separately, It's understandable why they'd do that.

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

I observed this sectarianism at very early age. I was going for studying Quran (Hifz) in a Deobandi Madarsa and they have brainwashed the young students to a extent that they used to claim 'Allah ka shukr hai, usne hamen Wahabi banaya… Mushrik (Barelvi), Munafiq (Shia) nahin banaya :bummer: They even confiscated my Qasaul Anbiya (as that was written by a Barelvi).. I was not allowed to carry a Quran with translation, so I quit the Hifz also due to schooling issue.

After quitting the Hifz e Quran, when I went for offering prayers in mosque attached to Madarsa, Molvi Sahib gave me a Fatwa that you are going to burn in hell :hoonh: for not completing Hifz.

My Dada insisted me a lot to resume Hifz, but I denied. I then played a tactic with my Dada. I said ‘I’ll resume Hifz, if you allow me to go in a Barelvi Madarsa’, he said no, this will create sectarian problems. After that there was no demand from his side, but todate he calls me Hafiz

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

so you are barelvi used to live in town with deoband majority

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

Ki jana main kon..... Na main Barelvi, Na main Deobandi, Na hi Shia..................

That town got all sects, but people in our house were from all sects and inclined towards basic religion of tolerance :D

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

Aap Diplomatic ban rahe hain…:emmy:

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

what do you want, for 12ers to be accepted as muslims or do you want peaceful interaction/living?

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

At present sectarianism in pakistan is related to outside factors.

Groups like Iran backed Tehreek nifaz fiqa e Jafiriya for imposing Fiqah jafirya to sunni majority and saudi funded salafist movements to enforce every one to salafi ideology is what i believe that started this divide. You see it is the aggressiveness of certain minorities of excessive share of rights at the cost of rights of Majority.

Still few days back i saw a shia pray at ashraf ul madaris gulshan e iqbal and no one objected.

I have seen famous deobandi and barelvi ulema having respect for each other, you should be firm on your opinion but also respect the others right to have a different opinion this is what i believe.

I follow deobandi school of thought but still have good relationship with some very famous barelvi ulema in karachi. If a shia do not abuse sahabah i respect him , if a salafi do not throw kuffar fatwa at every one i respect him as well. This is because i share a common deen with them .

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

Its not the case of shias versus sunnis, every sect considers themselves as muslims and the rest as mushriq’s/kafirs.

Besides didnt the muslims under Hazrat Muhammad:saw2: live peacefully with Kuffar?

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

In firebrand molvioun se khuda bachai!!!

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

:emmy: My dada is cutter deobandi… Never went to Mazaraat.. My Daadi (Allah Bakhshe) even went to Mazars of neighbors regularly and did Gyarhween of Badshah Peer

My Abba studied books from all the sects and he used to bring books from the liabraries of Imam bargah and library of Deobandi Madarsa. My Ammi still involved in Mannat, etc on the tombs of Qalandar Shahbaz and Shah Latif.

This all exposure made me diplomatically accommodating

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

and we have seen all our ulema from all sects coming together in hour of need.....
only those who have dedicated their lives to sectarian violence may remain aloof ...........

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

 fatwas are a good business thinking of opening a factory myself.

Re: Sectarianism in Islam

Living peacefully with kuffar will not help us in finding way for living peacefully with other sects…:nono:
i want to know how main stream muslims adjusted with mutazila peoples…
