How bad is it to marry a man who is already married,provided he does not plan to abandon his first wife and kids?

Are the labels ‘homewrecker’ and ‘other woman’ borrowed from the west? Islam allows polygamy, then why is there so little acceptance of it in the desi world?

Getting back on topic, if by bad you mean if it’s wrong, then no it isn’t. As to why it’s not practiced, well I know that maintaining a standard of living is a major factor among some Arabs, on top of ensuring fairness between multiple wives. Otherwise, its practice in general requires hard work to ensure that one is being fair in this type of situation and it is an added burden on the man. As to why it isn’t accepted (or maybe encouraged is a better word here) among desis, I would guess is the lack of confidence in the men’s ability to act justly between multiple wives while maintaining a certain standard of living. Of course since it isn’t the norm in the culture (unlike some others), it will also be looked at as something that is out of the norm.
