What the X-rays would also have shown is whether or not the cranial cavity was breached by the major trauma on the right side of her head (ie did her skull partially cave in?) - which would have produced a different and even more serious injury than cerebral contusion.
A serious injury like that would resemble gunshot damage to the inexperienced like those near her at the time.
