This person was part of a news conference given by ESA. Funded by tax payers. Not exactly the forum to wear a shirt showing bonded sex!
If the criterion is that since Kim reveals her beoty, shirts depicting such beoty should be allowed everywhere, I am sure mosques are letting such attired persons into their premises.
Back to reconciling point 1, he represented ESA, while beotiful Kim represented herself and her beoty.
If this person was wearing a shirt in a private event, this won’t be an issue. He could wear a shirt portraying nude men or women, and no one would care.
ahem… 1. It wasn’t a news conference. 2. No ‘bonded sex’ involved. The clothing in pictures of the girls on the shirt is actually more decent than what our ‘icons’ wear during red carpet events in hollywood and elsewhere.
You have already said that the shirt is demeaning to women. Now you are saying that his being ESA employee is a problem. So, is it okay to wear shirts degrading to women if your employment is not publicly funded?
The occasion being a press conference is the other issue. So, it is okay to be degrading to women on magazine covers and not in press conference?
Anyways, this is how he responded a few days earlier when asked about his tattoos and why ESA doesn’t have a problem with them:
“…The people I work with don’t judge me by my looks but only by the work I have done and can do. Simple…”
Exactly where was he wearing this shirt if not at a news conference? Maybe it was not a news conference. Wasn’t it where the ESA folks gathered to watch the landing? Wasn’t the media present? Call it whatever u want - a news conference. Or public event.
No. The feminists don’t want women in bonded sex being depicted in public event, I am sure.
Biggest problem with your earlier post was that a faction of the society raised its voice against something wrong and instead of showing approval to that, you showed your disagreement and supported this man citing very weak and weird argument(s).
You should have clearly welcomed the criticism against him and be done with IMHO.
**An individual’s wrong act can still be objected regardless of what the society considers ‘norm’, **which in this case, really does not.
There is no universal agreement and approval on depiction of women like this in any society.
**
Large majority of women still prefer to be identified as individuals and not show-pieces.**
I do hold the man mostly responsible for wearing the T-Shirt - how can he not expect to be criticised? It is because I know what society is like - full of contradictions. I would simply give the man a chance first … tell him off discretely/privately or something to that effect. I did say it was wrong and not sensible either.
You may think my post #38](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=38) is out of context - but there are many such wisdoms like that from the Sunnah and using them we can see the embodiment of the prophetic title “Rahmatul’Aalameen” … This is the way my learnings have taken me … it may be wrong in your eyes and if I am truly wrong I only hope you can pray for my guidance. I have actually stated that man’s act was wrong in every relevant post on this thread …
Re last sentence, totally agree. I focused on Masjid since Psyah was involved in the discussion. Also I was not sure about churches. Whether they are as strict. Wrt temples, again in cities you can walk in with almost any attire. Quite informal. In villages, can be very formal.
This line judges me strongly - My intentions are not written in words, true intentions can be worked out through dialogue as we are doing. My posts throughout this thread clarify my position … I still think the first post was good enough, but at least you should give me the benefit of the doubt from my last post … Is that too much to ask?
There are so many awful things that happen to women (and men), rape, abuse, etc, that this is such a ridiculous thing ot make an issue of, not ot mnetion the gross hypocrisy.
Only thing he’s guilty of is bad fashion sense and judgment. A future rapist and someone who contributes to rape culture? hardly. Seems like the epitome of ridiculous first-world-problems.
That worse things happen to women (and men) doesn’t mean less worse things should not be addressed. There is something to be said for walking and chewing gum at the same time.
Some may feel the action of this woman was ridiculous. Others may feel such statements ridiculous! And that’s what makes the world go around. And around.
As for gross hypocrisy, that statement, to some, may seem beyond ridiculous. And gross. And yes, that’s what makes the world a wonderful place. Not everyone has to be offended for an action to be deemed offensive! A false litmus test, if ever there was one.
A number of the scientists involved on this incredible project were*interviewed in the hours leading to contact by Nature Newsteam. One of those Rosetta scientists was Matt Taylor, who chose to dress, for this special occasion, in a bowling shirt covered in scantly clad caricatures of sexy women in provocative poses."
one of the posters indicated this was not worn in a news conference. Technically he may be correct. Certainly looks like an interview by the press- whatever you want to call it.
As for this being a first world problem, isn’t it an irony that several posters here live in the first world. And several are born here. And this effort was a first world effort. So first world problems are highly relevant.
And re more serious problems exist, so this is silly to tackle - the same response, in fact, was given by a few re equality for all regardless of orientation. So yeah, just because this doesn’t concern a set of individuals don’t mean it’s ridiculous.
Textbook behaviour of microagressive theory when people keep sending out unwelcome put downs to belittle a specific group without malice. It’s never a huge thing but it makes you pause and wonder what message the person is sending and why.
I would be lying if I say I didn’t have half naked guy posters including manga dudes all over my wall when I was teenager but did I go around with T shirts and notebooks covers with the the same pictures? No. There’s a time and place for everything. I would only be wearing anything like that for some kind of reaction or make someone uncomfortable.
Ok here is my 2 cent on this entire matter. I am seeing this topic being blow out of proportion and they even had the dude apologize for wearing a shirt, which goes to show that feminists are becoming or have already transformed to the Nazi mindset where they must punish the male ideology for expecting itself fully. Honestly the feminists don’t care about the dude’s shirt, but they want to target his manhood, by manhood I mean his mental well being. They want to destroy the psyche that a man is in charge. They want to let him know that “hey you can’t express yourself, if you wear a shirt which we don’t like we will destroy you to your very core”. Basically feminists are saying “Come at me bro”.
On the other hand, I agree that the guy shouldn’t have worn this T-Shirt. I mean dude you successfully navigated a freaking robot traveling 80 billion Kilometers per nano second and that’s the shirt that you chose? Seriously? What is happening to men? Are we succumbing to the sisification of the western world that we’re so afraid of women that we subconsciously lash out by wearing sexually illicit shirts? Seriously, I want to ask the guy, why would you wear a shirt like that? Are you a teenage boy who’s in to Anime? Just why? You’re a grown man who landed a freakin satellite on to a moving rock 2 mile long, would it kill you to wear something decent? See that’s where men are putting themselves at the behest of the feminists. Men are become more child like. Thus women are complaining more and more that they can’t find real men. We need to stop with this BS and start dressing like grown up men. Forgot the $75 nike sneakers I’m talking about shoes made out of rare albino Egyptian crocodile. I’m sure the guy could afford a decent suit, I mean he only makes 900,000 a year. Seriously he deserves to be mocked by the Feminists, he put himself there.
If you don’t act like men, women will treat you like kids.
On his defense, the poor guy was probably trying to pass a message that scientists are cool dudes and not socially incapable nerds. Unfortunately, because he is probably a socially incapable nerd, he failed to pass the message and in fact ended up offending people.
