this wouldnt have happened if women didnt decide STEM fields were too boring, and guys like these had to spend 30 years without meeting any women outside of manga.
bunch of bologna …
much ado about nothing. frankly had i seen the shirt … i would have just assumed he had a crappy sense of dress but nothing more then that.
A real woman s womanhood is not threatened by a bunch of colorful cartoons. pfffft.
I also dont buy that this sort of hype or someones shirt is going to keep women out of science. anyone really interested in science (man or woman) is going to make their way to it. Leave the rest to focus first on dress color/style, boobs, bum or hair …
Dude helps launch a robot… the robot travels over 6 BILLION kilometers… to a comet which is 500 million kilometers away from us hurtling along at a speed of 135,000 kilometer per hour… helps land a machine on that comet… the battery in the probe is dying…and he has to apologise for poor fashion sense?
In good old days, he and his colleagues would have been declared gods and worshipped!
With stature comes responsibility. If he was wearing that shirt for an informal event that’s fine. It’s my understanding he wore it for the press conference celebrating this event. He should have known better
If a religious or conservative person were to criticize this man for wearing this kind of shirt, Southie and like minded would have supported his ‘right’ to wear whatever he wanted with 10 pages of different kind of arguments.
“…Still, Taylor’s personal apology doesn’t make up for the fact that no one at ESA saw fit to stop him from representing the Space community with clothing that demeans 50 percent of the world’s population…”
It was not clear who made this statement when I clicked on the link. It seems it was a lady journalist.
I do. When I read the who article, it was clear that this “dude’s” apology was accepted. But the ESA also has an obligation to ensure people are respectfully dressed for the occasion. Oversights happen. That is why they need to ACCEPT they could have done better. An apology, when warranted, goes a long way to heal wounds or patch things up.
It is a no brainer that the ESA also accepts it’s role in this saga.
I suppose you’d also agree with this statement about Kim Kardashian as well…
“…She was naked, yes, but in good taste. She looks feminine and beautiful without showing it all, and I think women should applaud her for owning her sexuality…”
Haven’t clicked the link. I also don’t know who made this comment. But I support this comment. Kim was expressing herself. She chose to it. The shirt was degrading to women. Even possibly to Kim. Apples and oranges situation.
I welcome a religious or conservative person. to come forward to criticize this man for wearing this kind of shirt. Actually I am surprised this hasn’t happened yet.
The only crap here is the shirt he wore. And the message people can receive from it. There is no danger of this giving feminism a bad name. Good for the people who spoke up against such crass message.
If the shirt disrespected religion, a fatwa is par for the course.
