What purpose do they serve ?
Isn’t it waste of money and lots of trees get killed to print millions of year books.
Why do people need yearbooks for their elementary , middle and high schools. I understand year books for under graduate and graduate level serve a purpose. They get sent to potential employers.
Can the schools switch to a virtual year book system now ? It is not difficult in this day and age. The digital yearbook will last forever and save lots of trees.

I dont see the purpose of a middle school one, but i do see the point in 8th grade & high school yearbook. It is a physical momento for all your memories, who you went to school with etc…it’s kinda nice…AT THE TIME. When you go through school then it doesnt really matter anymore. You get to have all your friends sign etc…its pretty cool, for the kids.
Why would employers be sent yearbook? What do they get out of that?

We don’t have formal yearbooks in the UK…i don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing…

dude..why on earth would I send an yearbook to potential employer?
and yearbook serves a very important purpose, it is like a really good summary of what was going on the campus that year and while somethings may only have been of passing interest to you, opening the book later and a walk down memory lane is great.
my own set of pictures give a glipse into what I was up to, but the yearbook is a review of the surroundings, all packaged nicely. It is amazing for me to pick up my freshman year yearbook from college and do a quick travel back in time to that year.
could yearbooks go digital, probably, but then that is a bigger question of whether books can be replaced.

Me and my friend made our yearbook and trust me, theyre not easy to make! It took us 5 months to put it together. We however put them on discs rather than printing them, there were 112 pages and we had over 80 orders so I think we saved a lot of time, money and trees 
we were very proud.

essentally its a book which has a profile page for each student, it has their picture, name, general info and a quick questionnaire, i.e future plans? Most embarassing moment, most memorable moment, fave teacher etc.
Then there are pages and pages of pictures of everyone, group photos, trips, plays, musicals, sports teams etc.
Then there are the awards, everyone votes on things like, most liekly to take over the world, most likely to become a millionaire…bigest slut haha things like that, its all fun and games really.
Its just a way to remember everyone you spent time with at college or school, i guess when youre 80 years old and lok back itll bring back some fab memories.

omg yearbooks are so important! it shows you how dorky you looked in the years gone by. what things you and your friends were involved in. the teachers and memories associated with. they are SO not a waste of paper.

i regret wasting my 30 bucks. cuz i was so busy in my final year of school that i didnt even ask any of my friends and teacher to write me comments.

I like yearbooks. This summer a friend of mine from elementary school opened up our high school yearbooks. It was great to see pictures and read everyone’s comments. I had forgotten all the jocks that I use to have a crush on
Mirch - my parents did not like them because between my and my sister they had to fork over money to get TWO identical yearbooks and they have to store in their basement forever!

aah c’mon Mirch bhai - Yearbooks are mementos of past times… keepsakes to remind people of good times and bad, their friends and foes, their follies and craziness, and all that was amusing in one’s carefree days.
I agree in that they can prolly be digitized, and in fact, my brothers had theirs as a flash e-Book CD from their high school. That being said, it is often argued that digital just doesn’t cut it. It’s the same sort of thing as with picture albums of your momentous occasions, and I’m sure most of us cherish the photo albums of engagements, weddings, and birthdays… more than their digital counterparts.

That is more of a highschool yearbook, a uni yearbook can not have a profile page for each student, but student pages with pics broken by classification i.e. freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, grad student. The rest is accurate, group pics of diff clubs, organisations, teams. reviews events in the uni that year, plays, sports teams performance, ajor uni renovations and projects, homecoming details and pics, things around the world..what is in fashion, music, major year events,
My yearbooks are sitting in my bookcase in my home office. great records of great times.

We had one in year 11 (photocopied booklet) and in year 13 (proper professional yearbook).
I think UK schools are becoming more Americanised with these sort of things like yearbooks and proms.
