Latest is 5 dead at an Amish shool in PA and 2 schools in vegas area are on lockdown, all 3 incidents happening today.
What’s to blame?
On a side note but related, why is it that people find a penis or boob on the television much more threatening than violence and murder, both fiction and non-fiction that airs constantly? The bible has violence so it’s okay that the media does but god hates human parts so we must hide them?
agreed, there need to be stronger gun controls. I am tired of NRA BS, guns dont kill ppl, ppl do, yeah but with a moron with a gun is def more dangerous than a moron with a two by four with a big nail in it.
However the NRA is a very strong lobbying organization and our elected reps may feel more of an allegiance to lobbyists and groups bankrolling their campaigns than the poor sob who votes for them.
UTD is right, this kind of stuff gets way too much play and can only encourage more of the same.
But I don't agree with Mr Frauda that this indicates stronger gun controls are needed. This guy was not previously wanted by authorities and had no known criminal history. What laws could have prevented him from legally buying a gun?
There are many, many more people than just the NRA that feel the 2nd Ammendment is a right that is basic to the survival of a democracy. Especially with the current government heading toward facism.
Seminole, obviously something has to change. I may be wrong,..heck I probably am wrong, but so is the status quo. There has to be some change, what change..that we can discuss.
Actually I want to buy a handgun too especially after someoen tried to break in our house 6 years ago, but then I always wonder as soon s I buy some weapon I would be on some watchlist assuming that I am not on one already (well aside from the flight list for which they ahve to clear me each time)
And yes, many people are for second ammendment rights, but not all of them agree with NRA stance which is basically of minimal controls. There has to be some way of making sure that gang thug types dont get guns and for ppl who do get guns there is some process of renewing gun license, and if it takes a psychological assessment each year to renew the license ..or something, so be it.
Again, i dont know the answer but the status quo aint workin
So UTD Now you can openly declare that all your comments against Islam have a sinister overtone.. so everything you say here regarding Muslims is multiplied by a Zero.
Fraudz, I agree there needs to be background checks and discussions on other changes, but a yearly psychological assessment? I don't think that's feasible. Look at 1/2 the rednecks with 20 guns each. They are hardly a profile in psychological stability, but you ain't gonna take their guns away.
This guy was apparently not the gang thug type, but they don't get their guns through legitimate means anyway.
seminole, the yearly psych assessment is just an idea, just for us to start thinking on what can be done differently. if there is some assessment before a person can buy a gun it MAY decrease soemoen who is ticked off just buying a gun and blowing ppl up. I think the wait period does some of that to deal with short term rage, but for lingering anger, it may prevent ppl.
we can also do renewals of drivers licenses, why cant there be soem sort of periodic renewals of gun licenses..
we can answer this by technology, guns that the police can remotely freeze from firing ( but i guess a fear of a totalitaria fascist state and second ammendment rights will keep that from happening). but if the guns had some chip in ti which u can not disable, but police can deactivate that chip remotely and the gun is no longer working.
or some sort of time tag..i mean yeah, go hunting, go target shooting, but get a chip or something from yer local friendly cop-house which will only work for so long,
Again, just some ideas, maybe realistic maybe unrealistic, but there is a problem and this discussion should be happening more at a national level with experts from diff fields involved to develop solutions and recommendations.
