Schiavo passed away...

Wasn’t sure where to post this.

Well, it’s over, God rest her soul and give her peace.

What a mess.

Re: Schiavo passed away...

I hear the pope is on a feeding tube...should be interesting

Re: Schiavo passed away…

quality of life vs. quantity

Speaking of the Pope - I was shocked today, headline of the Philadelphia Daily News is “The Great Debate: What Terri Schiavo and the Pope are teaching us about death in the 21st Century”

I was crossing myself. I have no idea why it bothers me so much that they talk about the Pope dying already (I know he is, but talking about it, hmmm, some residue Catholic superstition snuck in somehow, like saying he’s dying or talking about his death will rush it somehow :smack2: )

Anyway, I wonder if the Pope has a living will.

Re: Schiavo passed away...

^ I am afraid that this is the last year for Pope.

Re: Schiavo passed away…

These jerks have politicised the Terri situation to the extreme .

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Thursday that he joins the millions of Americans saddened by the death of Terri Schiavo and urged the country to honor her memory by working to “build a culture of life.”

“The essence of civilization is that the strong have a duty to protect the weak,” Bush said. “In cases where there are serious doubts and questions, the presumption should be in favor of life.”

“I appreciate the example of grace and dignity they have displayed at a difficult time,” the president said. “I urge all those who honor Terri Schiavo to continue to work to build a culture of life where all Americans are welcomed and valued and protected, especially those who live at the mercy of others.”

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said her death was a “regrettable loss of life” that deeply saddened him. “May God bless her memory,” he said.

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, called Schiavo’s death a “moral poverty and a legal tragedy.”

“This loss happened because our legal system did not protect the people who need protection most, and that will change,” DeLay said. “The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior, but not today. Today we grieve, we pray, and we hope to God this fate never befalls another.”

Re: Schiavo passed away...

They're like fleas at a kennel. What can you say? Politicians are a special breed of slime that walks and talks, necessary, but still slime.

Re: Schiavo passed away...

UTD, what is that you find so offensive about what Bush said? You had liberal judge (Greer) who refused to listen to the testimony/evidence because he had his bleeding liberal mind made up. We need to get rid of folks like him rather than critcize people for saying the right thing.

Re: Schiavo passed away...

Kaleem this case has been heard by what excess of 20 courts?? A small minority of religious idiots want to break down the check and balance barriers between governmental institutions to get their way. Greer and the dozens of judges before him followed the law.

Bush says, ""The essence of civilization is that the strong have a duty to protect the weak." Kaleem you know what Bush has done in the past 4 years you have even complained about it, why do you have this dog like loyalty? Fine you hate Liberals and Democrats, that doesn't mean you have to pander to these assholes, what's it going to take for you to wakeup?

1500 soldiers and many Iraqis dead, so glad Bush could find he time to comment on this case, what an F'ing joke.

This long national nightmare has finally ended.

Now we can go back to talking about taking money away from old ladies.

Re: Schiavo passed away...

^ Yeah that is what liberals are best at.

UTD, Bush has talked about the death of the soldiers and Iraqi deaths plenty of times. If you have selective memory, its not his fault. So you agree that we should have let her die a horrible death...correct, but you are against capital punishment? You will rather save a beast but help a women who needed our help so desperately.

Re: Schiavo passed away…

Kaleem, when was the last time millions of Americans didn’t have to worry about health insurance?

You can shove Good state of Texas up your ass!

Re: Schiavo passed away...

Kaleem, feeding tubes are removed every day in hospitals across the country Kaleem. The majority of medical opinions have stated the removal of her feeding tube would not be painful, are you a doctor/specialist who can dispute that, or is it just you gut feeling that it would be a horrible death?

By the way, the Republican Tom Delay who made a fuss over this, his father was unplugged with him in the room. Hypocrites, every single one of them.

Re: Schiavo passed away...

UTD -

I read that about Delay(ed) earlier this week, his comments now are especially hypocritical now in light of what he did in the past.

This issue of whether or not it is painful is an issue that doctors/specialists cannot answer definitively. Starving her to death is not an ethical solution because there is no certainty there is no pain to her (other than educated guesses, let's be honest, none of them know definitely). I have no issues with tube removal in the case of ventilator where death occurs pretty quickly, but starving a person to death, well, seems inhumane.

Re: Schiavo passed away...

Minah, what I have read and heard is when the feeding tubes are removed the body will go into a state so that it does not feel hunger pains which is explains when those who go on hunger strikes can last for long periods of time, it seems that the body goes into almost Zen like state. When I had someone close to me pulled from life support to die it was made clear that the hospital would increase the morphine dramatically, since this case was so high profile I doubt the hospital used an excessive amount in order to avoid being sued by the parents.

Re: Schiavo passed away...

^ How many people who were starved to death came back to life to tell you or those doctors who claim that starving someone to death is painless?

Re: Schiavo passed away...

I am only glad that the pope is not married. His wife would have asked his tube to be removed.

Re: Schiavo passed away...

Talha, please keep it civil, otherwise, I do know how to handle your kind. You think your liberal leaders were so good, they are hell bent on making this country a socialist country. I cannot convince myself to vote for bleeding heart liberals who profess to socialize our medicine/insurance. So get over your high horse. If you try to be uncivil with me one more time, I will put you in your place where you belong.
