As a family, we made that decision for my grandmother also, but she was pulled from a vent, not starved to death.
I don't know, either way, I would rather err on the side of no harm.

No UTD, it is the responsibility of their parents to provide for their children. That is how it has always been and always will be. Please stop making it a sob story, becuase it is not. We alreday provide a lot of free stuff. There are many welfare programs and free medicine clinics operating throughout the country. I am tired of paying higher prices for medicines and insurance because of the free riders ( I know its not the only factor). It will help if every oen pulled their own load. Enough of the free loading.
P.S. If you are so compelled to help those poor souls, please donate away all of your earnings and savings, afterall you dont want those poor kids to die.

the Republicans cry about 'activist' judges creating new laws from the bench instead of strictly interpreting them, and then they turn around accuse 'liberal' judges of following the same laws and push Congress to pressure judges not to do so in this case?

I haven’t reviewed the entire thread yet, so someone may have said this already…but I’m gonna say it anyway cuz it’s been on my mind for a few days now…
Just because Delay made a decision pertaining to his father in one way does not necessarily mean that he cannot learn a lesson and change his mind about the next time he is faced with the same decision. It’s childish to expect that what we did 20, 15 or even five years ago would be the same way we would behave today. As time passes we learn, we grow…even politicians.
My heart goes out to the parents and siblings that were not permitted to be with Terri in those final moments. I know how precious that time can be. I am further pained by Schiavo’s decision to have Terri’s remains cremated rather than handing them over to the parents so that they can have some closure to their grief by putting her to rest.
There are several lessons to be learned in this ordeal. And I don’t mean political ones.

Btw, can someone please tell me what those “Last Rites” actually are? Perhaps in another thread?

Last Rites are given to people who are dying only, you repent and a priest prays over your body appealing to God for your soul. Not sure what you are talking about as far as Last Rites being given to him before, they are usually only given as a last resort.
