Scandalous or Shameless?

Maybe because I am first and foremost an American, I am not uncomfortable with the idea of people who are different, and that includes their sexual orientation. It is unfortunate that Pakistan is one of the few countries where people are killed while dining in an Italian restaurant in Islamabad (their fault: too westernized?) and while marching in ashura processions (their fault: too heretical?) That is why I am heartened by a show like BNA; there is so much intolerance in Pakistani society that we need all the expressions of pluralism-cultural and otherwise.

you are right, if anything, people like him might teach us a lesson on tolerance and embracing diversity. he is quite a hit in Pakistan, not because he is besharam and disgusting but because its damn good entertainment, something seriously lacking back home.

one just needs to do away with pigeonholing to truly appreciate the world and its diversity, as you pointed out, isn't that what we living in the west enjoy ourselves? why the judgemental holier than thou crap when it comes to pakistan? in another thread someone was critisinsing an actress for daring to look good at her age...we just expect ppl back home to be still living in caves and roll over and play dead as soon as they hit 50, ya that'll make us feel real good about ourselves and our choices.

Re: Scandalous or Shameless?

Thanks PatriotX - you just made a very valid argument

Re: Scandalous or Shameless?

I like his originality....he's just being himself. He's the REAL face of Pakistan so accept it people!

Re: Scandalous or Shameless?

^Lord save Pakistan!

Very well said :k:

Re: Scandalous or Shameless?

it's a different thing to put on an avatar for entertainment purposes on tv but to keep that look 24/7 is just wrong. and there's also a huge difference between having a particular sexual orientation and acting to have one.

i don't get why people who say that him acting like that in real life is wrong are labeled as extremists. those people are not extremists but they're right because what they're saying actually makes sense. why because....
- acting like your gay with your gestures and saying your tri??? isn't exactly called open minded. it's more like is your mind okay?
- when you think pakistan don't you think western or indian wannabee?? why is that? the answer lies in the bar scene from this video?
- Modernization comes from economy and a country having more money to support its people, Not wearing inappropriate clothes and dancing while drinking in bars. Which is just trying to be something your not. And hearing that if your living in the west is different but hearing that it's happening in pakistan makes you think "maybe pakistan will become part of America one day"
- Pakistan doesn't only consist of orthodox culture that the media can show, there's more to that. I bet if the Media showed the actual Pakistani culture and clothes/food etc. it would actually be recognized as a proper country rather than a "some" country in south asia

and the list goes on
