Re: Scandalous or Shameless?

Maybe because I am first and foremost an American, I am not uncomfortable with the idea of people who are different, and that includes their sexual orientation. It is unfortunate that Pakistan is one of the few countries where people are killed while dining in an Italian restaurant in Islamabad (their fault: too westernized?) and while marching in ashura processions (their fault: too heretical?) That is why I am heartened by a show like BNA; there is so much intolerance in Pakistani society that we need all the expressions of pluralism-cultural and otherwise.

you are right, if anything, people like him might teach us a lesson on tolerance and embracing diversity. he is quite a hit in Pakistan, not because he is besharam and disgusting but because its damn good entertainment, something seriously lacking back home.
one just needs to do away with pigeonholing to truly appreciate the world and its diversity, as you pointed out, isn't that what we living in the west enjoy ourselves? why the judgemental holier than thou crap when it comes to pakistan? in another thread someone was critisinsing an actress for daring to look good at her age...we just expect ppl back home to be still living in caves and roll over and play dead as soon as they hit 50, ya that'll make us feel real good about ourselves and our choices.
