Sayings of Pious People

Re: Sayings of Pious People

"Maturity is not when you have a strong voice. It is when you have a voice strong enough to pierce through hearts."

- Ayatullah Behjat

If you are not a positive influence in my life, you are not in my life.

No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves.

~ Amelia Earhart

Re: Sayings of Pious People

The sight of moving, acting, thinking and speaking person to be suddenly turned into a silent, quiet and motionless body is a better form of warning than the best lecture and the most effective sermon.

Do good before the door of repentance and the door of action are closed upon you,
before the peace, tranquillity and comfort leave you forever,
before distresses or adversities overtake you,
before troubles, anxieties and fears overcome you,
before death closes your eyes forever and
before His Wrath descends upon you.

Re: Sayings of Pious People

Here are some more copy n paste from another old thread.

1- The best method to live in this world is to maintain one's respect without inspiring fear, giving alms privately, and keep doing good without any selfish motives.

2- There are many people who obey God to gain favours, they act like businessmen trading with God, while there are some who obey Him to keep away from his wrath, they act as slaves, but there are some who obey Him out of gratitude and obligation; These are the noble and gentlemen.

3- Words are in your control until you have uttered them, but once they're spoken, you are under thier control. Therefore guard your tongue as you guard your gold and silver, for often, one expression snatches away a blessing and invites punishment.

4- Care for your parents and your children will care for you.

5- I pity the person who has forgotten death, although he sees people dying daily.

6-Your pleasure should be for what (good acts) you have sent forward; your grief should be for what you are leaving behind and your worry should be about what is to befall after your death.

7- Looking at others defects is neither proper nor manliness. Best to look at your own defects first.

8- Speech is like medicine. A small dose of which cures and excess of which, can kill the patient.

9- How wretched the son of Adam is! His death is hidden, his ailments are preserved, the bite of a mosquito pains him, while choking causes his death and his sweat causes him to smell!

10- 'The best deed of a great man are to forgive and forget.'

11- 'If patience does not give relief to a man, impatience kills him.'

12- This one is by Imam Jaffer Sadiq:

Do not be mislead by ones praying or fasting too much because people develop a habit in this behalf and cannot forsake it. On the hand, judge people in light of thier truthfulness and honesty and test them according to merits.

Re: Sayings of Pious People

And more from the 'City of Knowledge'

1- Like your body your mind also gets tired so refresh it by wise sayings

2- Man is a wonderful creature; he sees through the layers of fat (eyes), hears through a bone (ears) and speaks through a lump of flesh (tongue

3- Recommended prayers cannot attain the pleasures of Allah for you when obligatory prayers are left unattended.

4- A wise man first thinks and then speaks and a fool speaks first and then thinks.

5- The sin which makes you sad and repentant is more liked by Allah than the good deed which turns you arrogant.

6- Generosity is to help a deserving person without his request, and if you help him after his request, then it is either out of self-respect or to avoid rebuke.

7- Contentment is the capital which will never diminish.

8- Whoever wants to be a leader should educate himself before educating others. Before preaching to others he should first practice himself. Whoever educates himself and improves his own morals is superior to the man who tries to teach and train others.

9- That knowledge which remains only on your tongue is very superficial. The intrinsic value of knowledge is that you act upon it.

10- I wonder at the mentality of a miser, fearing poverty he takes to stinginess and thus hastily pushes himself headlong into a state of want and destitution, he madly desires plenty and ease, but throws it away without understanding. In this world he is of his own free will, leads the life of a beggar and in the next world he will have to submit an account like the rich.

11- I wonder at the arrogance of a haughty and vain person. Yesterday he was only a drop of semen and tomorrow he will turn into a corpse. I wonder at the man who observes the Universe created by Allah and doubts His Being and Existence. I wonder at the man who sees people dying around him and yet he has forgotten his end. I wonder at the man who understands the marvel of genesis of creation and refuses to accept that he will be brought back to life again. I wonder at the man who takes great pains to decorate and to make comfortable this mortal habitat and totally forgets his permanent abode.

12- A friend cannot be considered a friend unless he is tested on three occasions: in time of need, behind your back and after your death.

13- The best way to punish an evil-doer is to reward handsomely a good person for his good deeds.

Re: Sayings of Pious People

Here's some more

1- Silence will create respect and dignity; justice and fairness will bring more friends; benevolence and charity will enhance prestige and position; courtesy will draw benevolence; service of mankind will secure leadership and good words will overcome powerful enemies.

2- Give to your fellow believer your blood and your property and to your enemy your justice and fairness.

3- There is no wealth like reason, no poverty like ignorance, no heritage like culture and no aid like consultation.

4- Associate with people in such a way that when you have passed away they will cry for you, and while you are alive they will seek your company.

5- Islam is submission and submission is trust, trust is faith and faith is acceptance, acceptance is responsibility and responsibility is work (action).

6- Imam Ali's garment was very old with patches on it. When somebody drew his attention towards it, he replied, " Such dresses, when worn by men of status make them submissive to Allah and kind-hearted towards others and the faithful Muslims can conveniently follow the example ".

1- The wise aim at perfection, the foolish aim at wealth.

2- A believer who is calm in a commotion is patient in distress and grateful in prosperity.

3- Accusation of an innocent person is bigger than the universe. Justice is wider than the earth. Coveting is hotter than fire. Anticipating help from a stingy person is colder than ice. The mind of a contended person is richer than the ocean. The heart of an unbeliever is harder than a rock. The backbiter is weaker than orphan.

4- Every person who is tempted to go astray does not deserve punishment.

5- Greed is permanent slavery.

6- Every breath you take is a step closer towards death.

7- The first opinion of the person of intellect is the last opinion of an ignorant person.

8- If you overpower your enemy, then pardon him by way of thankfulness to Allah, for being able to subdue him.

9- To render relief to the distressed and to help the oppressed make amends for great sins.

10- Failures are often the results of timidity and fears; disappointments are the results of bashfulness; hours of leisure pass away like summer-clouds, therefore, do not waste opportunity of doing good.

11- I want to teach you five of those things which deserve your greatest anxiety to acquire them:

Have hope only in Allah.

Be afraid of nothing but sins.

If you do not know a thing never feel ashamed to admit ignorance.

If you do not know a thing never hesitate or feel ashamed to learn it.

Acquire patience and endurance because their relation with true faith is that of a head to a body, a body is of no use without a head, similarly true faith can be of no use without attributes of resignation, endurance and patience.

1 -When Imam Ali was asked about Faith in Religion, he replied that the structure of faith is supported by four pillars endurance, conviction, justice and jihad

2 - Do not make friendship with a fool because when he will try to do you good he will do you harm;

do not make a miser your friend because he will run away from you at the time of your dire need;

do not be friendly with a vicious and wicked person because he will sell you and your friendship at the cheapest price

and do not make friend of a liar because like a mirage he will make you visualize very near the things that are at a great distance and will make you see at the great distance the things which are near to you.

3- Imam Ali (as) wrote to Salman al Farsi (ra) : To continue, surely, the likeness of this world is that of a snake: it is soft to touch, and deadly poisonous. The ignorant child is distracted by it, and the one with understanding and intellect is cautious of it. So turn away from what fascinates you in it, for how little of it stays with you.

4 - If a praying person knew to what extent he was surrounded by His Mercy, he would never raise his head from (the state of) prostration.

5- The tears do not dry up except through hardness of the heart, and the heart do not dry turn hard except by committing a lot of sins.

6- When you feel afraid or nervous to do a thing then do it because the real harm which you may thus receive is less poignant than its expectation and fear."

7 -Bring to mind, by means of your hunger and thirst in it (the month of Ramadan), the hunger and thirst of the Day of Judgement.

8 -Do not be the slave of another person, since Allah has made you a free person.

9 - Do not look at who speaks but look at what he says.

10 - The house in which the Quran is recited and Allah (swt) is remembered, will receive many blessings (barakat) and the angels will be present there, the Shaitan will be far from there; and it (that house) will shine for the people of the sky, just like the stars shine for the people on the Earth.

Re: Sayings of Pious People

Prophetitc wisdom (saw)

That which is lawful is clear, and that which is unlawful likewise, but there are certain doubtful things between the two from which it is well to abstain. .

Remember the Lord in retirement from the people and make prayer thy sleep, and hunger thy food. .

Kill not your hearts with excess of eating and drinking..

Illumine your hearts by hunger, and strive to conquer yourself by hunger and thirst; continue to knock at the gates of Paradise by hunger. ..

Re: Sayings of Pious People

The nearest to me are the abstinent, whoever they are, wherever they are.

A keeper of the fast, who doth not abandon lying and detraction, God careth not about his leaving off eating and drinking (that is, God doth not accept his fasting). .

Re: Sayings of Pious People

Hope

Never let go of hope. One day you will see that it all has finally come together. What you have always wished for has finally come to be. You will look back and laugh at what has passed and you will ask yourself... 'How did I get through all of that?

Why hope to live a long life if we're only going to fill it with self-absorption, body maintenance, and image repair? When we die, do we want people to exclaim 'S/he looked ten years younger,' or do we want them to say 'S/he lived a great life'?

"When things are bad, we take comfort in the thought that they could always be worse. And when they are, we find hope in the thought that things are so bad they have to get better, because there always is a sun rise after the darkest nights."

Re: Sayings of Pious People

“Why Read”… ?

I love this quote about “Why Read”… thought you might like it too.

“Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted, nor to find talk and discourse, but to weigh and consider.”

“Lack of will power has caused more failure than lack of intelligence or ability*.*

If you care enough for a result, you will most certainly attain it.”

“Whenever you’re in conflict with someone, there is one factor that can make the difference between damaging your relationship and deepening it. That factor is attitude.”

Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal."

“Every son of Adam makes mistakes, and the best of those who make mistakes are those who repent.” [Reported by al-Tirmidhi, no. 2499]

Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Re: Sayings of Pious People

Character

Character isn’t made in a crisis, but it IS shown in one"

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.

Watch your words, for they become actions.

Watch your actions, for they become habits.

Watch your habits, for they become character.

Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

By constant self-discipline and self-control you can develop greatness of character.

Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain but it takes character and self control to be understanding and forgiving.

It is the highest form of self-respect to admit our errors and mistakes and make amends for them. To make a mistake is only an error in judgment, but to adhere to it when it is discovered shows infirmity of character.

Everyone tries to define this thing called Character. It’s not hard. Character is doing what’s right when nobody’s looking, except Allah (swt)"

Re: Sayings of Pious People

Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something..

Giving up doesn't always mean you are weak … sometimes it means that you are strong enough to let go.

Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens. .

You have to have a darkness...
for the dawn to come..

A word of encouragement during a failure is worth more than an hour of praise after success.

Re: Sayings of Pious People

Thats really deep

Re: Sayings of Pious People

The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.”

Friendship without self-interest is one of the rare and beautiful things of life"

"Fashion your life as a garland of beautiful deeds."

“O’ Allah! grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

"Even if I don’t reach all my goals, I’ve gone higher than I would have if I hadn’t set any. "
