Sayings of Imam Husayn

• You deserve the Paradise , don’t sell yourself for anything less. Whoever is content to the worldly pleasures , has sufficed to something base and low.

• Tolerance is man’s ornament , keeping promises is a sign of nobility , and bonding with others is a grace.

• Should poverty , illness , and death not exist , man would not bow to anything.

• People are slaves to the world , and as long as they live favorable and comfortable lives , they are loyal to religious principles. However at hard times , the times of trials , true religious people are scarce.

• Those who worship God for the hope of gaining , they’re not real worshippers ,they’re merchants. Those who worship God out of fear (of punishment ) , they’re slaves. And those who worship God to be grateful towards their creator , they are the free people , and their worship is a real one.

• A man came to Imam Hussain (Master of the martyrs) and said: I am a sinful man and can’t avoid doing sin, please advise me. Imam (as) said: If you can do these five things, then commit sin as much you like. First of all: don’t eat the sustenance of God and commit sin as much you like. Second: go beyond the domain of God and commit sin as much you like. Third: seek a site where God can not observe you and commit sin as much you like. Fourth :if the Angel of death comes to you to take away your soul, expel him away from yourself and commit sin as much you like. Fifth: If the Angel of Hell was about to throw you into the hell-fire, stop him and commit sin as much you like.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

On his stand against Yazid (on different occasions on his journey from Madina to Karbala):

• O' God! , you know my revolt against the rule of Bani Omayah did not stem from any greed for power, or for taking revenge. I stood against the tyrant of my time to reveal the genuine image of your divine religion , and to make social reforms in order to save the oppressed and pave the way for them to act according to your rules. And you people ! If you don't support us and treat us fairly , tyrants and oppressors will dominate you to blow out divine illumination. Surely God Almighty is our strong supporter , upon whom we rely , from whom we seek help , and towards whom is our return.

• Yazid , the natural son of an illegitimate has placed me in a dilemma , drawing my sword and fighting or being humiliated by allegiance to him. But it is impossible for us to be humiliated , God , his messenger , the believers, my respectable family would not prefer obedience to mean people to dying with glory.

• No way ! By God I will never surrender to them like a humiliated person and never pledge allegiance to them like slaves."

• Swear by God , I did not rise against the tyrannical rule of Bani Omayah out of selfishness or with the aim of oppression or corruption. My revolt only aimed at reviving the religion of my grandfather , the holy Mohammad and the traditions of my father Ali ibn-Abi Talib , to enjoy good and forbid evil. So, whoever accepts me by accepting the truth , surely God rewards him for supporting the truth. And whoever rejects me , I will be patient until God judges between me and these people justly. Surely , His Almighty is the Best Judge of the judges.

• O' God! Surely you know that whatever we did was not a competition to gain worldly positions and not for the worthless physical attractions of the world. But to show the signs of religious ways and to remove corruption from your lands , so that the oppressed feel secured and act according to your traditions and rules.

• I never revolted in vain, as a rebel or as a tyrant, but I rose seeking reformation for the nation of my grandfather Mohammad. I intend to enjoin good and forbid evil, to act according to the traditions of my grandfather, and my father Ali Ibn Abi-Talib.

• We are the victorious party of God , we are the household of the Messenger of God and the relatives of him. We are the dignified and chaste family of the prophet , we are one of the two great weights of which the prophet of God has appointed us as the second to the book of God ( which is the first of the two weights ).The book in which there are explanations for everything. There is no wrong in it. The Holy Koran for which we have been trusted to interpret. We will never be helpless in its interpretation. In our interpretation , we follow the facts of the Holy Quran. O' people do obey us, because obeying us is compulsory for you, and is tantamount to obeying God and his Messenger.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

.

Doubtful…very doubtful that he said the above. There was no need to say those things…It would have been sufficient to ask to follow Quran and sunnah…not himself and actually raising himself to the status of Muhammad:saw:. I say no way such a knoweledgeable Islamic scholar uttered those words.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

if that is what you believe, fine.

I'd rather you add to this by adding sayings of Imam Husayn from your own sources if there are any that is. Shias do not have a monopoly on him you know.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

^
This coming from a person who did not bother to put the source of these sayings and kudos to moderators for not deleting the thread because it did not list the source. I say apply the rules universally or dont apply them at all.

First post your source along with the statements and then ask me to post about Imam Husain (r).

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

Dear Kaleem, by reaching to the conclusion that Imam Hussain [as] in the above cited paragraph raised himself to the status of Muhammad [s] you have interpreted the words of Imam Hussain [as] incorrectly being unaware of the hadith Imam Hussain [as] was pointing out in that para. The hadith he was referring to was:
“Prophet said: I am leaving for you two precious and weighty Symbols that if you adhere to BOTH of them you shall not go astray after me. They are, the Book of Allah, and my progeny, that is my Ahlul-Bayt. The Merciful has informed me that These two shall not separate from each other till they come to me by the Pool (of Paradise).”

(1) Sahih al-Tirmidhi, v5, pp 662-663,328, report of 30+ companions, with reference to several chains of transmitters.
(2) al-Mustadrak, by al-Hakim, Chapter of "Understanding (the virtues) of Companions, v3, pp 109,110,148,533 who wrote this tradition is authentic (Sahih) based on the criteria of he two Shaikhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
(3) Sunan, by Daarami, v2, p432
etc

I hope this effaces your confusion.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

^^

That hadith is recorded in Al-Muwatta’ of Imam Malik as

“I have left two things with you. As long as you hold fast to them, you will not go astray. They are the Book of Allah and the Sunna of His Prophet.”

An article at http://www.abc.se/~m9783/fiqhi/fiqha_e78.html deal quite comprehensively with your post.

Firstly, it is written there the claim of being reported by 30+ sahaba is an outright lie.

Secondly, the authour of the article points out that a very large number of scholars have held up the authenticity of the version that states Quran and Sunnah over the other version.

Lastly, the authout points out that anti-Ahlul Bayt bias could not be behind Malik’s
recording of the Quran and Sunnah variant, because Al-Muwatta’ includes several hadiths related by Hazrat Ali (ra) and even more so, Imam Malik forgave the governor of Madina for injuring him, simply because the Governor was from Ahlul-Bayt which Imam Malik, like all sunnis, held in high regard.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

The version of Ahlulbayt is widely narrated than the Sunnah version how anyhow both are correct since it was the progeny of Prophet [s] who had no contradictions about the Sunnah and were the best sources to derive sunnah.

Moreover the Ahlulbayt [as] version of hadith is present in authentic shia text as well therefore the above cited pragraph of Imam Hussain [as] concur with those references.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

Just being related to prophet does not make one the best source of Sunnah. This is akin to Kingship, which Islam is against. There were certainly other sahabas who followed sunnah. Plus, like Maddy pointed out, it is supposed to be Quran and Sunnah…not a person. I still maintain, Imam Hussain (r) would never equate himself to Muhammad:saw:.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

when your a grandfather.. tell us how you feel about your grandson then try to equate the prophet and his grandson...

there was a time when hazoor paak was praying namaz.. and imam hussain climbed onto his back.. hazoor paak.. ordered the sun to stop.. so his prayer wouldnt get delayed.. and wait till imam hussain got off.. so agar chaand taaray un ke liyye hamaray nabi rok soktay thay tho what was anything else..?

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

^ What does that has to do with the topic at hand?
By the same token, you are telling us that Muhammad:saw: let the Karbala incident take place and did not ask for divine intervention to stop it?
You make me laugh.
There was no reason for Imam Hussain (r) to say those words. None what so ever. He knew better than to equate himself and his doings to that of Muhammad:saw:.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

the prophet wasnt alive then... but he knew what was going to happen.. Karbala happened for a reason.... the reasons which you fail to understand due to your ignorance.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

strange saying.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

where is the source of this ?

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

Had you bothered to read my first post you would have not repeated and reached to the self interpreted conclusion which is quite ignorant.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

Matam is not the part of religion therfore it cannot be called bidah. But if the case is so to the ignorant masses then letsee who else is inlucded in this Biddah: Ayesha narrated:
"Rasulullah (s) died while he was in my lap. Then I laid his head on a pillow and got up beating my face along with other women".

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

^ Masha'Allah! Since when have you started following the Sunnah of Hz. Ayesha (ra)????

For your information that was just a momentary action on hearing a very sad news and she never ever carried it out (smacking her cheeks) ** as an annual ritual**.

Re: Sayings of Imam Husayn

No we havent started t to follow the sunnah of Aysha else we will have to follow many of strange actions like woman coming out of their homes to wage war against the ruler of our time no matters how many muslim dies etc.

As for your defense that its was just a momentary action by her that means (matam being sin in your school) one can commit a sin for once but shall not repeate it?

Moreover everytime when we listen to the atrocites committed by the greedy zealots of Bani Ummayah over the family of Holy Prophet [s], an ambience of grief is established which lead us to the same mantal condition (which according to the above cited sunni tradition) in which Ayesha was in that particular situation.
