Say a BIG NO to transit route for india..

Re: Say a BIG NO to transit route for india..

Sadly it is not. A few notable Indian economists from Columbia have openly stated that Pakistan would lose considerable industries and the like if trade is opened up.

Why is it that people with no understanding of trade creation and trade diversion mouth off on issues they do not understand?

Re: Say a BIG NO to transit route for india..

Here i will help you with reading material:

South Asia: Does Preferential Trade Liberalisation Make Sense?

CM bhai very well said!

This is a suicide to provide trade transit route to india.

This Burqa dude has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. Giving examples of Pak-Iran-Turkey or Pak-China transit and equaling it with the transit route to india? Dude what are you smoking lately?

1) Iran, Turkey and China are friendly countries, whereas india and Pakistan are still technically at war
2) Comparing Pipeline with trade transit route? Do I need say more? Again, what are you smoking? Gas pipelines are not used to smuggle bombs, guns, rocket launchers etc.
3) As CM has correctly mentioned, it has grave impact on our local industry

SO SAY NO TO TRANSIT ROUTE TO INDIA. Does anyone know any media person? We can at least send some emails to the newspapers and try to bring this issue to the public as much as possible.

Why are you guys confusing two very different things here?

  1. Transit route - Things made in other countries are shipped overland through Pakistan to/from Central asia

  2. Preferential trade agreement between Pakistan and other countries.

1 is acceptable. It is already happening through Afghan transit trade agreement and other future agreements about Pakistan-as-transit-corridor for the Central Asia.

2 is unacceptable. We should NOT give the preferential trade agreement to CHINA, India, Thailand, Philippines and other countries where labor is dirt cheap compared to ours.

The biggest culprit that has brought total destruction to Pakistan's industry is CHINA.

So we should totally regulated cheep goods from China. Otherwise our industry (or whatever is left of it) will totally disappear.

Yes the "BLeadership" of Pakistan is absolutely set on greed!

Marasi Dee you have a good point!

So why not tell INDIA to Trade with Afghanistan Via the "SAICHIN GLACIER"..................:D

India will trade with Afghanistan through Pakistan .... the democratic government of Pakistan has signed the deal already ..... you can take a chill pill and if you want we can get you a visa to visit Siachin :D

We will see how Pakistan's worst enemy can get a transit route via Pakistan!
MoU is not a contract. Far from it.

All Pakistanis brothers and sisters mobilize all your energies to make sure this NEVER ever turns into an agreement.

Not until india stops cross-border terrorism in Pakistan!

This is a valid point.

Indians must leave Siachin and quit encroaching on Pak land if they want to have long term constructive relationship.

And since when is Siachin part of Pakistan !!!!

And here is quote from your link

Your link strongly recommend non-discriminatory approach. Trade agreements between rich and not so rich countries such as NAFTA and EU are being running successfully. There is illegal trade of $3 billions dollars between India and Pakistan but you have great pain if this trade is legalised. Read Follows

Can Illegal Trade Between Pakistan and India be Eliminated?

The guesstimates of illegal trade between India and Pakistan range widely between 0.5 to 3 billion dollars. It exceeds considerably the value of legal trade between the two countries. Total annual trade over the past seven years has never exceeded 250 million dollars and stands at less than one percent of their combined total trade with the rest of the world. Further, over this period, the balance of trade has remained consistently in India’s favor – in some years five times as high. So, even the lower guesstimate (0.5 billion dollars) illustrates the trade potential and the scope for generating foreign exchange and revenue for the government. Clearly, these aspects have important policy implications and highlight the need for getting an accurate fix on the value of illegal trade.

That is a good point.

We can go back to Adam and Eve's time, and point out any part of the world and say that it wasn't part of that country or this nation.

Indians talk from both sides when they say accept line of control as "border", then use pathetic excuses like "lack of boundary marker" to send in their troops.

However the point is not to decide whose territory is Siachin at this stage.

It is just that Pak and India are in the state of War in Siachin. And any trade relations will greatly benefit if they agree to give up military ambitions along the border.

Got it?

India has no military ambitions on Pakistani territory ....... what gives you that impression. Infact they had half of Pakistani territory under their control and they gave it all up !!!!!!!

Do you even know what is the story of Siachin ?

Ignored for the sake of keeping this thread on topic.

Yeap. That's why the whole thing started.

Siachin should be immediately demilitarized if Indians and Pakistanis want to walk on the road of mutual peace.

Why it is so hard for you to understand that "When militaries of the two countries are facing each other off", it is a "nun-sense" to talk trade.

India is ready to demilitarise !!! And going by the action from Pakistan in Kashmir, they are justified in asking for authentication of the ground realities ... trust has to be built .... as for trade ... sure India is keen on it and trade is benefical for both the countries. You realize for all the rhetoric ... it is more in Pakistan's interest to improve ties with India then the other way round.

Re: Say a BIG NO to transit route for india..

Niden the other articles listed show examples why it would not work. The subcontinent is still an agriculture based economy. Meaning we all compete in the same products left over from the colonial era. Direct competition through any form of liberalization will mean unemployment certain sectors being shut down and the Pakistani economy losing out key sectors to more competitive industries due to economies of scale.

Pakistan does not benefit and that is all that matters. Under Musharraf's rule this was brought up and it was blocked under the GATT agreement where we do not have to allocate MFN to India. However the current government is not really that interested in protecting Pakistan's national interest.

Dude, you are sitll high and proud on something as disgusting as arming/financing/training terrorists in other countries to ignite a civil war and resulting in the breakup.

Yes we have not forgotten indian cross-border terrorism. We are not naive to forget how india ALWAYS is looking at the first opportunity to stab and destroy Pakistan. We have not forgotten how india always threaten us with war on smallest of things.

No we are not naive.

indian extremists who are always in establishment, are the real policy makers and they have never accepted Pakistan. For their weird fantasies they still consider it a part of india. Unfortunately, in their hearts, educated guys like you in india seem to believe that as well!

Pakistan and india have nothing in common at present. india was, is and will always stay a problem neighbour. It will always look at the opportunities to get maximum profits from Pakistan, even if that means begging for transit route or MFN status. But at the same time it will keep financing/training/arming terrorists who want to destroy Pakistan. It will keep disrespecting all agreements by building illegal dams to steal Pakistan's water with the aim to dry our farmland. And then it has nerve to ask for transit route?

There is no benefit for Pakistan at present to give india this transit route. Costs for Pakistan are too high...

NO TRANSIT ROUTE FOR INDIA! Period!

Re: Say a BIG NO to transit route for india..

NO TRANSIT ROUTE FOR INDIA! Period!

bingo!

Looks like big phart as usual without any sense.:)

CM,

You have not responded to my post. Off tangent posts are actually misguiding few stupids here.

Re: Say a BIG NO to transit route for india..

Yes I have. I said read the links in the thread. There is just not one article posted. That link provides sources to IMF and other Indian Academics with views on free trade in the SAARC region.
