and sitting for 8 hours during ami’s dialysis isn’t helping it much either… I’ve tried Voltaren and a back support as well as a hot water bottle!
My workload is horrible.. i’m working 8-6pm and then 10pm-4am again ![]()

Most often back problem starts from awkward sleeping position.
That kind of strain is worst every morning and gets better as day goes by. Of course If not fixed it could get bad. Good news is if you make muscle stronger sitting for long time wont hurt.
Now first thing you need to do is to relax :(
Ok in order to relax you can stretch. Some time ppl take muscle relaxant pills too.(If the stress is acute)
Now when at dialysis, try to walk as many time as you can. Being is same pasture of a long time in not good.
Muscle starts getting weak.
Once the strain is gone I can put up some no-weight-easy-work-out routines to make lower-back/back stronger.

No it's not.. the pain doesn't get better by night..it's constant and very bad! Voltaren, hot water bottles and a back support haven't helped at all! I don't even want to think about exercises at the moment!

most backaches go away in a week to two weeks. and the worst thing you can do is to rest. just do what you can. doesnt sound like you did any heavy lifting, so you should be okay.

queero is right the worst thing is, not to do anything ur back will become stiff and make it worse......
small simple exercises and back massages should help. when u get some free time, just lay down and raise ur legs. Bring ur legs towards u and back out again, u should find the stretches relaxing

Gina, maybe your bed isnt doing much for your back? Do you carry a heavy handbag? And do you usuallay carry it on one side? Ive noticed lightening up my bag helped my back a lot and also making sure I dont put all the weight on one side.

You are right, You should NOT do any exercises just yet.
Pain is natural alarm, it tells you to stop. So let the pain go away and then we can train you.
God forbid there can be other reasons causing lower back pain too. So pay a visit to chiropractic to see its not a nerve or some thing.
But do start with very light stretching.

you are right there can be many reasons. But once she relaxes, and train back would become strong hence it wont cause problem doing every day life.
Plus making stomach stronger helps too, strong tummy muscles take weight off the lower back.

If you think it's just strained back and not some other serious problem, then I would recommend that you get prescription strenght anti inflammatory drugs (like Naproxen 500 or 750 mg), you can also go to the doctor to get a prescription for muscle relaxants (flexeril for example)...although keep it in mind muscle relaxants make you really drowsy and you won't be able to work during the night or even day for that matter. I also think putting ice on it will help more than hot water bottle, and don't start excercising now!

What kind of back pain is it? Sharp and extremely painful, shooting like pain? Does it go down you leg (would indicate a nerve problem . inflammed tissues impacting nerve). Or is it dull?
I had extremely severe lower left side back pain, I couldn't stand up straight for a few mins when getting up from the chair and the doc told me to EXERCISE - and you know what? It actually worked, but I didn't expect it to do so.
But anyhow, GET IT CHECKED by some one who can tell if it is going to do more damage than good if u exercise.

Also, hot water bottle might help. You can get this long cushion thing from the body shop that u microwave to heat up, it smells REALLY NICE and u can just place it under your back.
There is an exercise u can do whilst sitting in a chair, sit up straight, and move yourhands to one side of the chair while looking straight ahead, then twist to the other side of the chair.
