what pisses me off more is that women who wear veils and gloves are the only ones photographed for news about women in arabia with a 100% chance of the article ending in “women in arabia are expected to follow strict rules that orders them to cover themselves in a black cloak from head to foot” … godddddddddddd! update ure pathetic ignorant selves (talkin bout media.. not so much u Madhu ji)…
p.s) Madhanee… maybe u should spend some time in arabia. since ure so insterested in gettin educated in saudi customs, laws.. its women
to understand a country and its laws is to live there… ya u sit in amreeka and live with women who have known freedom for quite a bit now.. they havent known it any other way so just assume that is the way its meant to be ALL OVER the world…
go to a saudi all girl school.. u’ll see EXACTLY why there are strict laws in place regarding women.. why blame just school girls.. i work with very well educated saudi women.. and boy do they act wild.. would put any redneck to shame! think saudi men are horny… meet a saudi woman.. 2 steps ahead!
only solution.. harness them .. wanna wear slutty clothing.. go ahead … but just cover up … the women are happy .. and the men too… one happy day for everyone!
Whoa…Ofcourse!!! I took a plane from Jedah to Dammam, then back from Dammam to Jedah and then Dubai and then well I’m well out of Saudia now aren’t I. The staff on plane are such sweetsamatos if and esp’ u’re travelling alone.
Are u talking about Riyaad Girl? In Khobar/ Dammam I was seeing mini skirted ladies, with bare legs wearing just baray-nam abaya…having real big time hairdos and what not, nobody said a word to them.
Just going to the malls there totally changes the stereotypical images one may have in mind of KSA women. There was not a single woman that did not had highlights or original colour of their hair…err…skin too (plastered down with powder/foundation)
Ex2: A friend of mine walked 10 blocks alone at night from the hospital back to her apartment, yet alone picking me some grocery items on the way. I sure was amazed but she said if u walk on the busier streets its safe.
As far as rape is concerned… well I can only say this ignorance may lead to plenty of distressed situations. If one is smart … they will be able to get by in any country or land. If not…too bad fate shall grant them quite the same where ever they may be. Even in North America. Where did you see the elder lady getting beaten up?
Daysee Behna and khawateen , you are giving such a nice pic of SA, I’d like to go there for holidays …
could you (anyone else welcome toooo!) please give me advices, I’ve just posted a new thread on travel forum for that purpose…bahut shoukria!!! http://www.paklinks.com/gs/showthread.php?p=3334007#post3334007
DB and Khatooni. So lovely to know about the freedoms there. We take walking 10 whole blocks in the middle of the night for granted, but in Saudi Arabia people have to brag about it. How so wonderful.
So here’s one more question for you ‘aulad-ul-Khajoor’ (children of dates – as in date palm). How many of you were educated in a Saudi School? When Pakis go to USA/UK, etc., they send their kids to local public schools, does that happen in Saudi Arabia too? If so, how many of you were educated at a Saudi School. If so, I have some questions for you.
One mor question: what is a Hakama? I have heard that everyone has one. It has your photo on it and it is like a driver's license. How many of you have Hakamas?
u are making us brag madhanee… in hope u will believe us…
u have to be a citizen of arabia to go to a saudi school (or have contacts if u arent one).. but we hardly feel left out.. saudis die to get their kids given enterance into private schools run by the british embassy (like continental and jeddah prep..).. too bad they arent allowed… doubt anyone in their right mind would want their kids educated in a saudi school.. even saudis themselves… but i would still be able to answer ure questions cuz i had friends who were arabs and went to govt run schools.. have a feeling i already know what ure gonna ask.. but shoot away
its not hakama u ignorant soul.. iqama.. its an id card.. and yes only poor expats have to carry it at all times.. sad for us na? lets cry together
UT, I really wholeheartedly believe that NYTimes is the most influential newspaper and every (elected) head of state reads it before they say their daily prayers. It has a lot more influence than any other media. And Kristof is a Pulitzer prize winning journalist which is a lot more prestigious standing for a journalist than Tamgha-e-Azadi given by Mushi? Don’t you think?
Khartooni…. I have the following questions (some for Saudi citizens, and some for others who live there)
can Saudi women (when I say Saudi women, it doesn’t include Filipinas or Malaysian women) travel outside of Saudi Arabia without consent of their father/husband?
There are 16,000 public schools in Saudi Arabia, why would Saudis kill to send their kids to British or American schools? What are the reasons?
There are one million Hindus and Sikhs in Saudi Arabia. Have you ever (those who live there) seen a shop selling the religious edicts (statues of Lord Ganesh, Kali Mata, Laxmi, or photos of Sikh Gurus) in any shop in Saudi Arabia? If you can post a pic of existence of such a Place, I will stop posting on Gupshup.
why do u keep on askin the same questions over and over again madhu.. why o why .. sighz…
-yes they can … wiase i thought u were more worried bout expats.. why the sudden move to saudi women and their rights??? thought u would get soem negetive feedback this way?
saudi ppl would wanna send their kids to british schools cuz the curriculum is by far the best.. with excellent teachers and facilities.. plus , just like some desis, they adore the goray log…
quantity of schools does not guarantee quality.. but im sure u already know that
1 millin sikhs and hindus in arabia kidhar se laye yeh statistics ??! in my entire life living in arabia i have never ever met a sikh! cept one… granted there are a few.. but close to 1 million.. bhung tho nahi peeli?
and no. there are no stores sellin any kinda religious symbol other than islamic… but i already told u that before…
ab koi naye savaal lana.. khabar daar jo ghissay pittay savaal dubara poochay :@
LOL … this is even funnier. You started off saying that you wanted to talk about the freedoms that foreigners have in Saudi Arabia. Upon discovering that foreigners actually rather more freedom than you were hoping they had, you now switched tack and are focusing on on what Saudis can and can’t do…
It’s not that I particularly like the policies or even the mere form of the Saudi government, but I do truly delight in watching you make a fool of yourself
Madhanee, did you hear what happened at Columbine when the boys were killing and the police had orders not to shoot them even when they had clear view of them. Khawateen is right. I just arrived into Dammam this morning, and things have changed to a certain extent. I am visiting SA after almost 8 years. This time I was pleasently greeted at the immigration, unlike the last time I came here. They did go through my CDs to see if they had any pornographic content but everyone was very polite. There is a definite change in underlying tone.
Khawateen is right: In the residential compounds, women do not have to cover up. No regulations are enforced inside the compounds. Inside the Aramco compounds at Al-Khobar, I saw a lady driving today. I saw another one without a scarf. I saw a bunch of good looking Saudi girls covered but not veiled chatting happily outside the compound without any male accompanying them.
At times it appears ironic to me, when I hear from women that women are repressed. Just as an example, I am sure most of the fathers want their daughters to get advanced education and study more but mostly the mothers don’t want these things to happen. Mothers are not willing to give their daughters any chances.
Things are not all rosy in SA for sure. But those people who let this happen here and not raise any hue and cry are equally responsible for this. Americans and the Europeans are quietly and happily earning tax free money in here. Grapes are not sour yet.
I have to go now. I shall come back with some more after roaming around in Al-Khobar today.
Maddie, it is called the wind direction, you wouldn’t have a clue about that, because your head is firmly placed inside a molvi’s ass and it refuses to come out.
Here’s the same question for you (again). Are there shops in Soodi Rabia selling non-Muslim religious edicts? Like the statutes of Bhagwan Ganesh or Kali Mata? If you have, can you post a pic of that? Now does that qualify as the “rights” of foreigners living in Saudi Arabia?
I originally wanted to ask these questions of Petro kids (most of them come to the US or Canada, instead of following their father’s (not mom’s) footstep of working in Aramco or Khajoorco as a pipe carrier), and I didn’t think that any Saudi will come to Gupshup, therefore I directed my question to these brainwashed (you included) people.
madhu.. making like an ostriche and being ignorant isnt a very wise trait to have :)
educated discussion i dont think is what u had in mind (altho that is what u said u wanted)... should u have said "this is a saudi bashin thread, all who hate arabia report here", u would have had a much better time and ure thread woulda looked exactly like how u had wanted it to ....
Khatoon… After your not so clear replies, I am now asking some pointed questions from those who actually know a little bit about Saudi Arabia, people who have seen the institutionalized and religiously imposed crap that is forced upon foreign workers living and working there.
Do you know what ‘Misyar’ is? Is that widely practiced thing in Saudi Arabia?
Also, one more question, can a Saudi “woman” marry a non-Arab and keep her citizenship (without King’s approval)?
my not so clear replies or replies that didnt suit ure happiness?
since i dont know much bout arabia.. according to you... i'll refrain from answering any further questions. hope u can find a misguided soul ignorant enuff (like you) to answer ure questions with all negetive responses :) ive only given u sorrow and anger... hope this other person can make u regain ure mental peace ...
