Re: sari for valima?
Is this how most saris will look, or is this cut in a psecial/different way, like a narrower pallu, that gives one that sort of figure? Or is it the way it’s styled and the models’ own hourglass figure?

Re: sari for valima?
I think the traditional red/golden one would look awesome!

this is how most saris look when tied. and of course, her figure helps too! :p
Re: sari for valima?
Yeah i think the way she is standing and her figure has to do alot with the whole look.
My sis just got me a sari from India that has a gorgeous pallu in a totally different style. When i drape it on the shoulder, the pallu gets narrower going from the pleats to the shoulder and on the shoulder/arm it is shaped in a huge flower with bead work and the rest of it gets a bit wide. Not sure if this post is making any sense but this the first time i saw a pallu like that. Cant wait to try it on.

It's not cut any differently. Pretty much all sarees are just a sheet.
The less stiff the fabric (that saree looks like its made out of chiffon, which has really nice drape...a banarsi saree will never fall like that), and the tighter you wrap it around your waist, the more of a shape you'll get. I'm sure the model's figure doesnt hurt though.

:(
Re: sari for valima?
I never liked how sarees look with covered hair…its such a messy look, and it ruins the ‘sleekness’ and the flow of the outfit.
If youre going to wear one as a wedding outfit, you should be prepared to wear it normally with your hair open.
Re: sari for valima?
^ i think its covered more for modesty, some brides like having the head covered for both walima & wedding, but i agree that w/o is a younger nicer look
Re: sari for valima?
Indian brides knwo how to do it well...
Re: sari for valima?
sara i always wondered about this..i also remember watchign some hindi film where kareena was putting on a sari and her petticoat was really fitted and hourglass like...i wonder if that helps with the fitting of a sari too...most of my petticoats are pre-made straight things..wonder what would happen if it was shaped.
Re: sari for valima?
^^^ yea it does help if the petticoat is fitted otherwide it wud jus luk like a bag only think u can do to the premade ones is alter it take it in
Re: sari for valima?
get your petticoats made of thin material and get them maid in the mermaid cut. it will for sure help the overall look.
also, starry eyes and janab-e-ali: in our fam when brides wear saris, there is usually a second dupatta that matches the sari but maybe has more kaam on it that is placed over the head if the bride really wants it, instead of the pallu. which i guess makes you feel more like a bride or summat without ruining the look of your sari? i dunno. i can't picture it. unless its more veil-like rather than a heavy kaam done dupatta.
Re: sari for valima?
SGC, Sara and Lublyjubly u guys made me laugh!
I do exist and i promise i will post my pics very soon. Partly the reason y i havnt posted them yet is cos i dont have any on digital camera(they wernt so popular 4 yrs ago!)so i have to dig out all the albums etc and then scan the pics. I was actually going to post them on our wedding anniversary which is next month as it’ll b 4 yrs since i got hitched. I've seen that before. Bangladeshis do it a lot, and Christians in India will basically wear a western style puffy bridal veil over a white saree. I dont really like that look either. A lot of brides in my family wear sarees too (we're not Bengali or anything though)...they usually just cover their heads with their aanchals and it never looks as neat as a gharara/lehenga with a nicely placed dupatta.
Maybe this is just a personal thing, but I feel like sarees should always be very sleek and elegant looking...it just looks best when its worn with a fitted blouse and the aanchal over your shoulder. Baggy blouses and covered heads just ruin the look I think.
Re: sari for valima?
Hm i found some pix of bridal saris…I think even w/o a duputta, u can still look very bridal and elegant…
Love hte oclor and design of this one…
Love these two, but I think they’re probably lenghas with two duputtas, instead of one.. ![]()
Re: sari for valima?
yup, those last two are lehengas...
the first bride in the pale pink looks really good in her outfit. i think the dupatta and sari should both be soft, flowy material. if its stiff at all, it ain't gonna look good.
also janab-e-ali, i agree- fitting is everything in a sari and a sari blouse. actually, it applies to everything you wear :P
especially lehenga and gharara shirts- some people make them too loose and it looks like a sack. its really bad. especially when the girl is so thin and actually has a figure... i also cannot harp on enough about a well-fitting bra.

Not just bras, but the fitting of the shirt as well... it just kills the whole look
Re: sari for valima?
I don't like the idea of valvet saris...
