I was wondering has anyone worn a sari on their valima, or know of anyone who has
i dont feel like wearing a lehenga, i already wore on on the engagement and will be wearing one on the shadi
DO you know of any good stores where i could buy a sari in karachi
Since the valima outfit comes from the guys family, u shud talk to them abt it? And if they're OK with it, then go for it... I personally have not seen a bride wearing a sari, but i dont think its a bad thing... Srry I dunno where u can get em from in kHi
i think a sari would look great on the valima! you could also wear a churidar or a khara dupatta. saris would let you move around and meet/greet your guests wayyy more easily than a lehenga.
just tell your inlaws you would prefer one to a lehenga- thats IF they're getting you your valima jora. i know most people i know have just given money to the brides and asked them to shop for themselves, according to their own taste. i think thats a super nice thing for the bride- being able to shop for herself.
i'd go nuts if my in-laws told me i couldnt wear what i wanted for the valima or anything else, really. talk about controlling! :P
Mango, try Rabi Center on Tariq Road, they have some nice stuff in various shops. I think you will see most of the shops offer atleast some nice outfits. Dont ignore the small shops, sometimes they have the cutest, most unique stuff.
I think a saree is a great idea, my mom wore one for her valima, and she always said she felt much more comfortable walking around and greeting her guests, plus she got a lot of use out of it that she probably wouldn't have gotten from a lengha. You can get lovely sarees on tariq road, but did you have a prefrence on what type of kaam, and material you wanted, cause there are specific shops which are good for the type of saree you're looking for.

Not necessarily..it really depends on how much experience one has wearing a sari, the heaviness of it etc.. my valima lengha was very easy to handle and to walk around in because it didnt have as much heavy kaam on it.. The same wud go for a sari, if its very heavily embroidered with an equally embroidered duputta, then it wouldn't be that easy to handle, just like any other bridal dress...
i know somone who wore a sari, sorry i can't share pic. but she used her pullo to cover her head and it looked really pretty. those beauty parlor ppl know how to put the sari on for a bride so don't worry.
my cousin wore a sari for her valima with a duppatta, it looked so pretty. it was quite heavy, but then the sari wasn't very heavy... she styled the duppata really well... sorry no pics!
Well…the girl that i saw wore it kinda like this, but the sari was a lot more flashier color wise but had no kam and the duppatta was VERY heavy, guess she knew that she’ll be wearing that duppatta with that sari just once and kept the sari simple so she could wear it again.
all styles of a sari are Indian…there is NO Pakistani style…except the one where they keep the palloo too short
anyway…saris look great for valimas…I’ve seen several brides do this. It does need to be approriately heavy because you are likely to see many of your guests wearing saris too…
and if you are particular enough to search, you can buy saris that have a matching shawl done in the same fabric and embroidery design to wear as a dupatta.
will be hard to find such a solution in Karachi though…
