Must be the reflection of real world, and I am equally guilty of doing that, but it seems that on GS, we all are becoming more sarcastic in the name of being witty. Our come backs and snappy remarks have very little or no humor and more insults.

And what is with the “like” feature? Instead of using it to genuinely like a post, it has been used in the context of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”, so if I don’t like you, and Mr x does not like you and he made fun of you somewhere, then I am going to go and like his post.

P.s. I am not guilty of the second one. I hardly use the like feature.

I don’t see an increase in sarcastic comments. In fact, the overall attitude on GS is the same as it used to be. There is a slight change though: more people dare to speak against the popular clan. That is what I have noticed.

As for the ‘like’ feature, I disagree again. In general people don’t like a post because it was aimed at their enemy. The ones who do that are obvious, because they have a habit of doing so and liking the posts of the same members again and again. Most ungenuine likes are still the ones that are used to like even a random post of a popular member.

I was thinking of just saying how this thread basically perpetuates the popular myth that Americans don’t understand irony, but of course I am not going to say that.

What I really want to say is that some posters really do like to read messages in either black or white. They don’t understand nor want to see the different shades of meanings. In my view, people who possess a good sense of irony have a better understanding of things; they are less gullible and in general, far more interesting and creative than folks who literally are colour blind when it comes to reading text with multiples shades.

The topic of the thread is quite interesting, it has to be said that there’s a tendency for people to take others’ too literally when all you’ve got is some written words in front you. In face to face conversation, you have all sorts of visual and auditory clues to help people ascertain the correct meaning, even communicating via phone you have the tone of voice and inflection to go with it. It is perhaps because of that reason detecting sarcasm and irony in real life situation is so much fun. In fact, it’s a straight up turn on for some people, because to get it perfectly right is nothing less than a talent.

Anyway, well done to all the posters who are coming out of their shells and speaking up or snapping up rather. It’s always nice to see people pissing off the status quo, whatever you do just don’t get yourselves banned. I would hate to see this site turn into a big fat online whatsapp group consisting of handful of bumchums.

Oh God, now I hope I don’t get banned for saying that.

I use the app more so when I read something I agree with, I will remind myself to go thru the browser to do it or I just mentally click like on it. There are some opinions that just ring true and despite the sarcasm or ulterior dig behind them, they are witty. Liking something is just agreeing with that specific post good or bad.

To an individual, you can only be offensive or funny. Even if your statement is offensive to even one, you failed. That is what I believe. Of course i am talking about the intelligent audience and not over sensitive loony toons.
