Man of his caliber he should have accepted all without hesitation. Once Sh Mujib offered to form the government, these points would have taken a logical conclusion by necessary changes agreed to both sides. But I am 100% sure that even ZAB accepted these points, the then military janta dominated by Jamat-e-Ha..mi was not in a mood to hand over power to ‘bhangi’ I mean Bengali. At least ZAB’s name would have never been part of this tragedy then.
How? These provinces would have gotten real autonomy as promised in 1940 resolution. Pakistan would have prospered if justice and proper distribution of wealth was done to these provinces and East Pakistan.
1971 is used by anti military politicians, who are usually more concerned with hiding their corruption and greed for power, and less interested in facts.
Apart from what you quoted above, it is equally important to watch interviews (there are tons of them) of Gen. Manekshaw, the then COAS of India. According to him, the 1971 war was planned well in advance, and Pak army had no chance, because ‘we’ had planned for the military invasion 9 months prior. And in his own words, the Pak army, despite being cut off from mainland Pakistan, despite being without weapons and rations and supplies, and most importantly, without support from Pakistani politicians, both eastern and western, fought gallantly. But the physical divide between East and West Pakistan made it impossible for them to fight a sustained war.
Irrespective of what Mujib’s 6 point agenda was, the bottomline was that he won the elections fair and square. Yahya and Bhutto were complicit, among others, and caused major damage to Pakistan in more than one way
From 1952 to 1958 indirectly and from 1958 to 18 December 1971 tritor military dictators were directly ruling with all powers in their hand , how can you blame any other ?
All 3 generals (Sikander Mirza, Ayub and Yahya) had full support of ZAB. ZAB could have distanced himself from them any time during these 19 years, and given acceptance to Mujib ur Rehman. Being the second largest vote getter in 70, his acceptance would have made it difficult, if not impossible for Yahya to deny Mujib the govt.
These six points were not pathar ki lakeer… negotiation can resolve the issue.. but if we take those six point as it was… there was nothing wrong it that…
Six points clearly indicating the key of injustices occurred since 1947 to 1970…
