she's so expressionless! she's a pretty girl i don't know why she doesn't look as good as one would expect her to on her wedding events.. strange!
i think she looked good on her reception in sialkot and the reason she is looking worried is probably because there were so many people and she was nervous and tired as any other girl would be 2 with that amount of people all wanting to see a glimpse of her. Anyways what i am really happy about this is that less known cities such as sialkots are being given attention as well due to this hype and being a sialkoti it helps to know that such glamourous decor is possible if i want to hold a function there
I asked because, up until this point, I had only heard of sangeet ceremonies as part of Hindu and Sikh weddings. The Indian/Hyderabadi Muslims I've met typically observe the same wedding traditions as Urdu-speaking Karachites in Pakistan - manjha, sanchaq, mehndi, baraat, valima, etc. Perhaps one of the Hyderabadi girls on here could comment on that as well?
For some reason, I sincerely doubt that Sania Mirza's mother or grandmother had a sangeet function at their weddings...my guess would be that it's probably something affluent Indian Muslims are starting to copy from the majority community in an effort to "fit in" more. Which is fine...though it is a little unfortunate to see their distinct traditions being supplanted by Bollywood culture.
I agree Janab-e-ali... Sangeet is not really a part of our culture... perhaps they included that as a part of the wedding festivities because a lot of Hindus have that as a part of their wedding ceremony... as we see on TV as well... you might be right about the 'fitting in' syndrome as well.

She keeps repeating the teeka may be because its said to be traditionally hyderabadi. All brides wear that kind of a teeka regardless of the ocassion... being from Hyderabad even I am slightly positively disposed for the traditional pearl teeka for any in gold because its a way better design. But there are hundreds of other designs within the same kind... there are ones with ruby drops and emerald drops replacing the pearls. She could've gone for that instead.
I am not a Pakistani but I'm a follower of Pakistani fashion... Shantanu Nikhil suck big time with their designs... Wish Sania wore a Bunto Kazmi - she makes the best
clothes I have ever seen. Makeup is also a lousy job.. Feel sorry for her!

As the dinner started, some guests pushed around and misbehaved with Sania’s family members, who came from India to attend the reception.
Some fancy crockery was also broken during the rumpus.
After this, Sania Mirza’s father, who was looking quite perturbed, decided to leave the venue along with his other family members without having food.
Tension was also visible on Sania’s face. Reports said that the newly-weds hired security guards to prevent re-occurrence of such incident in the future.
As the couple arrived at the venue, people welcomed them with folk dances on drum beats and music. A large number of jubilant people danced. They also bought horses that danced on drum beats.
The entire stadium was adorned like a bride. Two trucks of flowers were spent for decoration. On the occasion, the Sailkot police and law enforcement agencies provided full packed roof security.
Shoaib was wearing a white ’sherwani’ while Sania Mirza was dressed in green and maroon Indian ’sari.’ It was a unique event for the people of Sailkot who had been waiting for the arrival of cricketer Shoaib and tennis sensation Sania for the past several days.
Only the people with special invitation were allowed to enter the venue, amid tight security. Different television channels reported that several relatives and friends of Shoaib remained unable to hand over gifts to newly married couple.
Many were desirous to shake hand with the couple and have a picture with them, but it could not happen due to security concerns

I didn't see even a single smile during her visit of Pakistan. Plus she has been looking super paindu at all her wedding events. Our beauticians and designers are far more better than the indians, and that's not the prejudice. All the Indian celebrity girls were looking paindu on their weddings so no wonder about miss sania.

I have actually noticed that before in other pics but thought it may be the angle etc.
They were showing her makeup artist on ARY today,apparently she's going to wear a sea green lengha and have smoky eyes. He said he's giving her a totally different look and her hair will have curls in!lol lets see what happens.

Hmm, I'm actually quite surprised to the fact that its known as a hindu/sikh tradition seeing as though they are exactly like a dholki! That's only being said because I've attended numerous dholki's here, difference being us Indians generally just call it a Sangeet.
Regarding Bollywood, the oldies sing 'their' traditional songs; songs dated from the last century or so, and I say that because my great gran even sings them. Surely its not just to 'fit in' lol. These songs are ridiculous though, I must admit.
I'm unsure how it is in Hydrebad, but from what I've seen in India and here in the UK, every Indian muslims' sangeet I've been to hasn't been a big deal, in a sense the aunties/grannies havn't got up to complain about how we shouldn't incorporate such 'vaahiyat' traditions of other cultures (cos we know how desi weddings can be!). Just goes to show it's been going on for years.

And how I wished both Shoaib and Sania had an outfit made by a pakistani designer! I adore pakistani couture, so it would have been great to see Sania in something non-indianish.

We dont have a separate event called as Sangeet originally in our culture but most of us make a point to sing dance and have a blast at one of the pre nikaah festivities like Manje, Sanchaq or Mehendi
