I have never heard her saying anything on Islam. She has been very professinal about it by answering either 'No comments" or "I believe in Islam and its a private matter to me"
Can any of the guppies claiming that she said anything against Islam on the forum.
Congrats to her, She raced to world ranked 32, that's a great achievement.
She is an average player and in my opinion will be. Right now, women Tennis is very popular and we see upsets in every tournment. Even a 6ft Sharapova is having trouble getting back to the top by winning a Grand Slam. On the other hand, Sania is banking on her ‘Cute’ and ‘Muslim’ girl making the mark image and that’s about it. There is nothing special about her game.
^ nothing special? first Indian woman to break into seed 32 is special. She has won a couple of tournaments I think and has beaten some big shots, Special enough for a tennis fan.
Oh, she has won a PadmaShri at this young age. That is VERY special. Go Sania! well done...let the jealous detractors burn!
The Curmudgeon, I do respect her. I acknowledge that she is a special person who is playing for her country in the international arena but the point is her game has so far been average.
When we talk about Tennis, we are looking at group of individuals that are blessed with special talents. Sania's record so far:
Hard Court: 2-2
WTA Record: 2-2
In 2005, she reached 4th round just once in the U.S Open. She needs to dramtically change her game plan because she can't compete with he big players in her league. A great player can contend against big players in big games. You can not call her great at #32. Right now you can't even label Sareena Williams as a top player because she failed to win Grand Slam since Australian Open '05. Its is not easy to compete at the top level and I don't think Sania is up for that, unless she sensiblly changes her approach.
THE GREAT DIVIDEbetween Sania and her sisters
**‘‘I guess because I’m lucky,’’ Sania Mirza recently said, when a scribe almost demanded to know why she received the perfect support — financial and technical at the right age, while others didn’t. She could have well said ‘‘I guess because I’m good’’ but propriety got the better of her. It would be naive, though, to go by Miss Mirza’s verdict and assume that luck separates her from so many others.
**NO FEARS: Former Davis Cupper Gaurav Natekar, hits the nail on the head when he says that Sania’s mental toughness has helped her go places. ‘‘She has no fear, and loves playing on the big stage; something that most Indians don’t like to do or can’t do,’’ he says. PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Vijay Amritraj, who watched a few Indians at the Bangalore Open, points to the sheer inability of many of them to match the physical game of opponents. ‘‘Sania is a very strong and that is where she has the edge. Other need to build on the physical game.’’ HARD WORKING: Big-match temperament and the platform to match wits against Tour regulars can only come after playing more tournaments. ‘‘Players like Isha may not be as talented as some others, but can make up for it with her hard work. But Ankita, Isha and some others need to find sponsors, play the big tournaments in the next 18-20 months. Time is running out,’’ Natekar says. — S.N
She is a sweet girl who is playing well. If she does better, good for her. Otherwise, she has already gone further than any Indian girl has gone before in her sport. Expecting her to pronounce on religious matters would be as futile as expecting a religious scholar to play tennis. Both have their places.
All I know is that she is a great tennis player, and also as far as I know it is a sin to question anothers faith. So in a sense all you people who are saying that she is not a muslim are all commiting sins allow her to live her life in the manner she wants and let Allah decide if she is right or wrong, in this modern society can you say that you too are not guitly of sins???
For the men out there who oh so enjoy watching her play and then complain about how it is indecent, well have you always got your knees covered???? Yes accourding to Islam a man should keep all that is between his belly button and knees covered. Dont question others religions as it is a sin in its self.
