Sania Mirza, an Indian Muslim girl, is the youngest Indian who is honored with the prestigious civilian award Padmashri.
India has honored Sania Mirza for her achievements in support. I doubt if Muslim community will applaud her successes, as very recently she was under Fatwa threats for breaking some kind of dress codes as per Islam.
New Delhi, January 26: Sania Mirza was conferred with prestigious Padma Sri award for her contribution to tennis on the eve of the Republic Day on Wednesday.
firstly, i don’t think she comments on religion without being asked specifically about it by media persons.
secondly, who said she doesn’t follow Islam? she has stated many times that she is a Muslim “believer”. if committing a sin means you are not allowed to ever mention Islam, then the gupshup’s “religion forum” (Islam forum) should be shut down. i could be wrong, but i didn’t know we had only sinless prophets posting there.
nikhil25 mian, calling one muslim and not knowing even the basic tenet of Islam makes it a pretty easy call. She can call herself a "believer" all she wants, but.......

Sania Mira is a wonderful woman that does credit and honour to her family, her community and her country. She is a great rolemodel for muslim women around the world and has singlehandedly done more to repair the image of the religion which has gained a reputation about treatment of women (whether deservedly or not I do not know - I certainly have not come across any mistreatment other than what I have read in the papers).
For that I'd ask all muslims to be a bit open minded and thank and encourage her rather than being uptight fatwarts
How is she a great rolemodel for Muslim women? She violates the basic laws of Islam when running up & down the court w/ her jugs bouncing up & down, wearing short-skirts, & exposing a lot of skin.
If this tennis star is winning or get awards what that has got to do with Islam.
Its like what the Indian Pres has got to do with Islam.
Its on record that One MUSLIM Indian Pres was BURNED when he died.
All cheers for Sania Mirza! I am sure that there are thousands of brilliant women in Muslim societies but are not given any chance to expose themselves thanks to all rounder bullying fatwas.

One of the dumbest things I have ever heard in my life. One puny freckle-faced teenage girl has supposedly "singlehandedly done more to repair the image of the religion [Islam]?" A divine religion like Islam? If you said muslims, I would have let you slide.
This could only be the concoction of a mind restricted by its parochial boundaries and possessed by someone who thinks god(s) can be manifested through inanimate objects.

You need to open your mind just a tad and accept the fact that most muslims have no problem with Sania Mirza wearing daisy dukes, as long as she doesn't present herself as the self-proclaimed messiah of Islam.
