Well, that was fast! Me, I am happy with my original Note. If you are happy with your purchase/stuff, you are undermining the capitalist consumptive paradigm ;).
I was thinking the other day how much use I get out of it:
1) I read the Guardian and the NYT on it every day, and easily watch videos therein.
2) I have books to read on it and I listen to audio books, too.
3) I haunt craigslist for whatever I'm looking for, using "cPro+" craigslist app.
4) I keep a ledger going of the money I spend every day. (Actually, I don't spend money every day -- if you don't go out to a store, it's amazing how much less money you spend! But now with the MoneyLover app, I can also instantly see how much money I am spending for food or gas or books or clothing or animal feed. It was something I have always meant to do -- all the money management books tell you to, but I could never get into the habit of writing it down in a little notebook.
5) I keep track of what kind of mileage I am getting in my car by entering the details in Mileage app.
6) I visit Gupshup, of course!
7) I check email, and chat via gmail's google Talk.
8) I make my grocery list using the S Note -- I never forget my phone, whereas I have often made out a grocery list only to accidentally leave it on the kitchen counter.
9) I take pictures and all agree that the Note's camera ROCKS.
10) I have all my pictures from Turkey stored in my phone (or SD card) so I can bore anyone anytime about my trip ;)
11) I use the calendar a little bit -- I don't have a packed schedule by any means, but it is good for knowing what day the concert is or what time an appointment is.
12) The other day I used the flashlight app to read the menu in a romantically dark restaurant.
13) I have an English->Urdu dictionary app to check spellings.
14) I use Fandango app to find out what movies are playing where and see the trailers and check timings
15) I use the WSDOT app to check ferry schedules (a necessary thing where I live).
16) I use both Google Maps and Maps with Me Pro app
17) I have a couple of apps (TailChaser and PetRelief) to see what animals are available at animal shelters and rescue organizations, since I'm looking for a doggie.
18) I use the Groupon app to access my groupons so I don't have to print them out and then forget them at home...
19) I text, of course, and the keyboard is a decent enough size, although sometimes I really miss my slide out keyboard on the Samsung Captivate Slide.
20) Oh, yeah -- almost forgot -- I make phone calls on it!
The above list are the things I do most with my phone. I have other apps I use, but the above ones are the daily drivers. Didn't even mention looking stuff up on the web...
Of course, most of these things you can do on any smartphone. However, the large screen of the Note and the bright clear display just make it really easy. A pleasure to use.
And this from an old Luddite who only got her first smartphone a year ago.
I agree that there are a lot of good things you can do with the note but I m tech junkie and being one I m never happy with what I have. I have to have the next best thing. Also, Samsung has failed me quite a few times on updating their android software so I just wanted to get out of supporting a phone with an old operating system. Also, a lot of tech companies don't allow users to connect to their domain if their OS is more than a year old since they wont get any software updates its considered a risk to the network.
I was very happy with using the note and showing it off but got tired of Samsung not updating it just because they came out with Note 2 and weren't paying attention to their old phones. I hate that in a company. With Google updating the OS on the nexus phones the one thing I m certain about is the constant updates to the phone without me having to wait on a phone manufacturing company and then waiting for my phone carrier to release it.
Another thing that made me switch was that I was able to sell the note for $300 and by only spending $100 I got the newest phone. So for me it was a great deal since I bought my note for $50.
I might actually sell my NOTE considering the fact that AT&T is not offering SIMS for the prepaid plan I was planning to get. I hate the fact that the update brought in AT&T junk (again!!!) and I lost all the customizations on the page. One good thing is that now you can move icons from the dock region (iOS beat you to that Android SUCKERS !!!) unlike before.
Dont know which kind of file explorer you have installed in your note 2 (see if you have myFiles since that is what I have on my note2) but using the file explorer you can go to the download folder and click on the file. Its usually a apk file which is recognized by the system as a executable file. Clicking on it will install it.
If you dont have a file explorer you can install ASTRO which is free.
Exactly what I did (but mine had a bug so got a brand new one in the box and sold that one)....but you might want to do it quickly as the supply for nexus is pretty good these days....

Can one of you Notables tell me how to clear out my search history? I periodically clear it all out, and manage to do it (somehow, can never remember how I manage to do it...) EXCEPT when I use the little "Search" icon -- the permanent little magnifying glass which is below the actual screen. When I touch that, I have a bunch of book titles I looked at. They may have been the ones that I looked at a sample of, not sure. But they never go away. How can I clear them out?
^^Try....
