Salmon Fillets

I purchased some salmon fillets because I absolutely love salmon. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to cook/fry/bake or whatever you are supposed to do with this. I checked Martha Stewart’s website and she doesn’t even have a recipe. The nerve! Now my sympathy for her being unfairly tossed into jail has dwindled.

So how do I make it?

Martha can not compete with Google.

My recipe - yes I came up with it.

Alright make some besan with a bit of salt and pepper , set aside.Make sure its on the thick side.

Take the fish and marinate it in garlic for maybe an hour or so.

Then dip the fish in the besan and deep fry.

Guaranteed yumminess.:french:

^^ thats somewhat liek lahori fish.. except theres some sookha kuta hua masala added to the besan battar such as zeea, dhaniya, crushed red pepper, ajwain n kala namak

MQ,

If salmon wasn't expensive, I would cook it every other day! I love the taste.

Grilling it is the best way to go. As most fish are tender, you don’t need to fire up the heavy duty grill, just a foreman grill would do just fine. I usually make my own marinate that includes salt n’ paper, lemon (a must) and some hot sauces. Let the salmon marinate for a few hours (or over night) and then just grill it. Eat it with rice or garlic bread for best taste.

Oh and for Pakistani style recipe; Make a well done normal style masalla with piyaz tamatar etc. and in a frying pan and then put in maybe 2-3 inch cube style chunks of salmon (or any other fish for that matter). Cook it with the massala for some time but do not stir too much or else the salmon pieces will break. After that put the salaam in a baking dish & it goes in the oven at about 300~350 for 15-30 minutes depending on how tender you want it to be. Sprinkle some cilantro and you are ready to serve/eat.

Faisal, I could have googled myself. :snooty:

MQ, I don’t want to fry it like that. I was thinking more along the lines of AJ and grilling the salmon.

I just wanted to know which herbs and ingredients to use. I think I will grill some salmon this weekend. If they turn out edible and somewhat presentable, I may post a photo.

MQ, I don't use any special herbs. Just to give it a better look, after spraying some Pam oil, I sprinkle on all purpose/mix herb or sometimes crushed red papers. With the grill marks & the sprinkled stuff, I always get brownie points on serving.

Really? I’ll try it with the other masaleh too!

Mehnaz-- sure.I gave this to my other friends, they all loved it.Usually its the ones that dont like fish much. But the besan gives it a unique flavour. As for grilled/baked fish.I cant let out the family recipe. So yes use aj’s:blush:

1) Bake covered in a pan, with lemon, butter, salt and pepper. Add garlic if you want to.
2) Roll the filets in cilantro, lemon juice, salt and freshly grounded black pepper. Grill or bake.
3) Use tandoori masala in lemon juice as a marinate.

Wrap it with boiled rice and eat it raw like sushi.

i agree with Funguy....sushi is the best way to eat Salmon

I cannot stomach sushi. :bummer:

awww...sushi is lush..now im making myself hungry for no reason...:(

I can eat raw fish, but I can't eat those ones that are wrapped in rice. That is what makes me sick. What are those called? California rolls?

i can’t remember what they called..but i do love them :yummy:

Hun u cant go wrong with simple spices such as lemon pepper, cajun, or herbs liek rosemary or thyme with a lil garlic powder .. jus sprinkle it with any fresh herb with a lil salt n pepper n ure good to go

Just had a delicisious king fish steak :D
Mehnaz everyone has pretty much written good combination of herbs and spices you can use.
One thing though, fresh fish which has not been frozen is very easy to bake and you hardly have to brush any oil or spray, maybe very little....becuz it stays moist. But if fish has been defroze you might have to make sure it doesn't get dry while baking.

Re: Salmon Fillets

i remember a year ago or so..i was experimenting with salmon..and i baked all the pieces with different marinates..other than the usual..i mixed mayo, ketchup, hot sauce and sesame seed and baked salmon in that..turned out to be yummy :)

Re: Salmon Fillets

I make mine like AJ and Ira. It's yum. I don't like salmon the desi way. It's best grilled.
