Not quite, there are plenty of religious fanatics in India. Also, religion stands quite strong among the (poor and lower middle class) masses. Indian serials and movies are full of religious stuff.
I think this particular case is more about people belonging to the elite class, where religion rarely stand strong, even in countries such as Pakistan.

Look at the viewers’ comments in the link below; I am not the only person who is not trusting of the twinkle in Ayush’s eyes, nor am I the only one to notice that he is never looks at her in the pictures. So many ordinary folks sense something is off that it’s a wonder the Khan family are supportive of the match.

Kyun? Koi pabandi to nahi. Say it, Korn. This thread has derailed a bit and I feel I’m the only one here who feels the heebie jeebies about this match. I wonder how long she knew Ayush before marrying him. She is saud to have spent 4 years with Arjun. I feel she should have gotten to know this guy a bit more. But if he wants to be an actor, he should at least make more of an effort to “act” like he loves Arpita in his pictures. Acting is not only about posing and looking good; you need to work on your feigning pal. Who knows, maybe he’ll prove me wrong and be a good husband…a rarity among the B-wood lot.

You need to recognize also that his mother is a practicing Hindu. He’s the son of a Hindu woman, people tend to overlook this fact. Sure her name is Salma Khan for the media but his father and family has always stressed the fact that she still follows her faith. Also to be honest, just because he’s a celebrity people think it’s okay to bash his faith or lack thereof, but his whole persona is of an actor, I don’t think he’s ever said he was religious or made comments like that. It’s just us assuming and putting our expectations on him and other stars because of their names.

She was I think 7 or 8 when they adopted her and her mom raised her as a Hindu.
Looking at their own family, they aren’t religious at all. And to be honest no one in Bollywood really is, it’s an industry of vanity and partying, etc.
Sure there might be a few people who take their religion seriously but looking to actors as a guide or role model for religion is kind of ignorant.

no I dint say this kaka said she is hindu while rest is muslim n I replied she is adopted but salman khan along wth his family practices hindu traditions also so its not about being muslim or being hindu

Maybe Saleem Khan and Helen left the final decision up to Arpita as to what religion she wants to follow. Some parents do that.
