Salman Butt as Captain...

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

Guys don't take him seriously. He is Salman himself.

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

I dont think so..I mean there is something about afridi that doesnt make me think he can be a good captain. I will take Akhter over him as captain atleast akhter will be able to help/guide rest of the bowlers, what good can afridi bring as captain?

Over all i stick by my initial opinion on Pak's Captain, Malik if the waana take bold step, younis otherwise.

Re: Salman Butt as Captain…

Good point!

Salman Mania Buttt :hehe:

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

Not a bad idea, Pakistan needs to think out of the box and take some chances with new players. Having said that, there are other options such as Hafeez, Misbah ul Haq, Hasan Reza. Players who do not carry any excess baggage from their past, have demonstrated leadership skills in domestic matches and have a fair chance of being selected on merit.

Players who sud be disqualified for their past mistakes and never be given responsibility of leading Pakistan:

Shoaib Malik. Throwing matches annd reputation of match fixer
Afridi: Deliberate Tampering of the wicket, accused of creating rift in the side and threatening spectator with intent to harm
Moyo: Cannot handle pressure of captiancy and fined for match fixing
Akmal: Not even worth considering...Hijra traits
Razzak: Too much spinach (?????)
Akhter: Filmi villian role suites him more than captiancy, druggie.

Re: Salman Butt as Captain…

Malik is a long-term and workable solution. But given PCB’s short-sightedness and its love for ad hocism, in all probability, they will go for Younis.

But if Malik is made captain. How others will behave?

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

baat itnee see hey bhio that whoever the YOUNG captain is, he needs to cement his place in the team first .baqi batein baad mein!

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

Poori team hata kay change karo phir usmein say kisi ko captain bunao - salman butt is to young and inexperienced to be made the captain of Pakistani team since we have so many spoiled brats in it - Shoaib Malik can be the captain though...

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

Another good thing in shoiab's favor is that he is the kindaa guy who gets along with everybody. He has been with team under Wasim, Moin, Rashid, Waqar, Inzi, Yousaf and Younis and even razaaq. I am sure he has learned a few things from experiences of other in terms of man managemnt. He has been leading Sialkot for last few years. considering all these factors, he is an excellent candidate for captaincy of Pak.

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

You mean Salman Butt-erfingers?

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

It does not look like a good move.

The people who talk about Salman Butt as a Captain present Smith as a successful example. In a similar manner 4 years back, a few people considered Ponting as an example and Australian cricket as a standard. If something worked very well in Australia or South Africa, we cannot conclude it will work everywhere.

So to those who favor Salman Butt as a captain (cause Smith is successfull) I will present another example that worked in pakistan. Imran Khan resigned and then after his meeting with the president he reversed his decission and lead the Pak team to victory in 1992 WC. =====>>>> Musharaf can ask Inzy to reverse his decission and to lead pakistan till next WC.

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

Imran Nazir is acceptable. He was the only one to score a century in this WC.

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

^^
yes if it is not inzy, it must be Shoaib. There is no better option. And as a captain, shoaib can improve his fitness.

Otherwise some bureaucrat or some retired general can take charge of our national cricket team. Bureaucrats & generals can lead the cricket team better than a cricket player cause they are better educated and had availed better training. [And they can speak English]

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

At the same time, we cannot conclude that it WONT work either.....the problem with Pakistan cricket is the 'Senior Culture' whereby as soon as a player becomes senior in the ranks he automatically thinks he should be Captain, and begins to play political games to have his name spoken of as a potential Captain. They seem to forget that a Captain must have leadership and tactical abilities and not just seniority.

Why do people like Razzaq and Afridi think they can be Captain? When has Razzaq ever looked like a Captain on the field? He's the worst fielder and runner after Kaneria, his batting has declined and his bowling is nowhere. He seems to be a passenger in the team and has never shown any skills that would mark him as a future captain.

Same goes for 'Boom-Flop' Afridi. Someone who averages in the early 20's after a couple of 100 games and has lost more matches than he has won for the team, can never lead an International team, and nor should his name even be mentioned, let alone considered.

South Africans showed guts and a forward approach by making Smith the Captain and putting the seniors on notice. Pakistan needs the same approach, although I doubt whether Nasim Ashraf has the guts to make any strong decisions.

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

Smith is not successful just cause he can lead better, but he is a motivator for the rest and SA had enough proven talent in their team & they just required a person who can keep the players involved.

Re: Salman Butt as Captain...

He shook things up...Kirsten,Adams,Kulusener,Boje were the initial casulties and even Pollock and Boucher were dropped for a while to get their attitude and their game right.

Pakistan too has proven talent in Shoaib Malik, Yousef, Younis, Gul, Asif, etc - we simply need a young leader with no personal baggage and someone who will not be a liability on the side. Younis Khan's inconsistent batting and poor attitude should not be a source of inspiration for the future of Pakistan cricket, as he has rarely delivered when it matters.

Look at it this way, Salman Butt is 22 and will be 26 by the time the next world cup rolls in, Younis is already 29 and will be 33, Yousef is 32 and will be 36 - so both of these guys will be well past their prime by the next World Cup, especially Yousef - who is already a liability running between the wickets and on the field. Younis on the other hand, just does not show the skills at tough times which can make him a great batsman. He is simply not in the class of Saeed Anwar, Inzamam Ul Haq or even Mohammad Yousef.

I would say that Yousef and Younis shouldnt even be in the ODI team, they should be played only in test matches. The ODI team should be for young players in their 20's who can gain experience during the next 4 years and challenge the big guns on merit - look at South Africa's example and even Sri Lanka...did they think twice about dropping a former captain and class player like Atapattu in favor of Dilshan or Silva? No they didnt...because unlike in Pakistan, the Sri Lankans look at performance first....seniority second.
