What is the salary of computer engineer in uk ? any idea ???
Re: salary of computer enginner in uk
The salary depends largely on the following factors :
- how many years of experience you have and how much of it is UK experience .
- which part of the UK , you are in
- What specific role is it, some sub areas in Computer engineering are more technical then the others hence command bigger salary
- What level / band position is it .
Since we dont know any of the above factors , I will give you a general overview ..
In london you could look at roughly around 30K -35K
In the North West you could look at around 25K - 28K
Hope this helps
Re: salary of computer enginner in uk
Thanks for your reply. Is 30K to 35K a good salary? Don't you think people in USA earn more than those in UK?
Re: salary of computer enginner in uk
Programmers get highly paid in the EU.
Re: salary of computer enginner in uk
Like I said ... its difficult to know the remuneration benchmark without knowing the specific level and and expertise you are targetting.
I am not very sure about the US market , someone might who knows that market might guide us around that ... as far as the UK is concerned , its quite a highly saturated market and remuneration greatly is dependent on the years of experience and up to date qualification of skills ..
Re: salary of computer enginner in uk
do you know the difference in currency...30k in uk sterling is alot more than 30k in american dollars.

British Pound has lost a lot og ground to world currencies. there was a time when 1 pound was = $2.75 Canadian Dollars...NOW, it's worth only $1.7 Canadian.
also, the buying power has diminished for the British Pound in recent years. rent/mortgage is way higher than American/Canadian.

Are these starting salaries? What kind of salaries can be expected having say eight to ten years experience in uk?
Re: salary of computer enginner in uk
Yes Ali, these are starting salaries I mentioned , someone with 2-3 years of UK experience ..
For someone who doesnt have UK experience but has overall 8-10 years of experience, I would say salaries would be around similar or very slightly higher then the benchmarking as above ..
However for someone with 8-10 years of UK experience can expect their salary range to be :
£60k- £70k in London
£40k- £50k in the the North
Contractors can make alot more money then those who are in permanent IT jobs ..
Re: salary of computer enginner in uk
Feel yourself lucky if you are getting 30 K in start , a decade ago I started on 17 K :)
Re: salary of computer enginner in uk
Naabigh , was that in the UK?
Salaries did indeed go up slightly about 6-7 years ago , there was a lack of IT professionals in the UK and then with HSMP visa , we saw alot of saturation in the market within a few years ...
Re: salary of computer enginner in uk

Re: salary of computer enginner in uk

Is 17K a good salary in UK to support a family ?
Re: salary of computer enginner in uk
Unknown, to support a family and live just borderline comfortable, you need a salary of at least £40k minimum in London and the south.
In the North of England, a minimum salary of £28K should do ..
Anything lesser then this amount wont give you and your family a comfortable living. Infact most of the time people who are earning lesser then these amounts they have to have their partners working as well to make up to a comfortable living.
Hope this helps ..
