Salafi / Wahabi Religion - Questions?

Salam guys,
This post is not a bait post. I just wanted some info on the Salafi / Wahabi Religion. It is apparent that they are quite different than the mainstream sunnis and their interpretation of Islam is quite different too.
Can anyone enlighten me on their religious beliefs and how this religion came into being.
Also is treatement of women and other controversial issues a matter of religion or is a cultural thing (specific to Afghanistan?)

I dont really know much about salafi beliefs.

This much I do know that. They differ from other sunnis in the folowing beliefs

1)Tawassul: waseela. Calling to Allah(SWT) through intercession is considered shirk in their beliefs. Calling on to the prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) is considered shirk or bida. Since the dead cannot respond.

2)Visiting the graves of people is considered shirk

But how do they know that Prophet Mohammad can't respond? I mean isn't it challenging the power and will of Allah? I mean if Allah wants... anything can happen. Right? It's might not be right to make 'Calling upon the Prophet' a major part of the belief, but who says that we can completely take it out because anything can happen!

2)Visiting the graves of people is considered shirk
This I don't understand, cuzz isn't every deed in Islam based on intention? If your intention is not to worship the dead (Which I know no one's is) but to pay your respects, than what's wrong with that? Didn't the Prophet tell his Ummah to visit graveyards because it will remind them of Akhira?

I Alhumdulillah believe the Salafi’s/Wahhabiz r following Islam the correct way strictly according to Quran and Sunnah.

If there is anything you dislike or not agree with in Islam. IF you have a Quranic Ayah to support ur claim or an Authentic Hadeeth, the salafi scholars are ready to accept it and follow it

who’s fatwah is going on in the Muslim word. THe Saudian government’s Surah council and most of the Arab governments decisions are based on their fatwah’s. ( I was born n lived in Bahrain and been with many big scholars Alhumdulillah )

I Alhumdulillah believe the Salafi’s/Wahhabiz r following Islam the correct way strictly according to Quran and Sunnah.
I think every sect believes they are following Islam in the correct way. That would just lead us to a stalemate. It’s time we look beyond, sincerely try to learn about other sects and diminish the differences that are created by illiterate Mullahs, who project Islam to be a barbaric religion.

I do not know much about Salafi religion so I would not be in a position to make any claims. I only commented on what brother Salman wrote in his post, with my knowledge and understanding. If you can prove it wrong then I’ll be more than grateful.

I could name many more scholars from all the sects that have contributed much more to Islam. And Saudi Arabia? Well let’s not talk about that… That needs another thread in itself.

The fact of the matter is that we need to resolve our differences, if not that then at least come to respect them. Only then will the Ummah prosper.

Don’t you think you would please Allah if you tried to debate with a fellow Muslim from another sect, than try to kill him?
Something to Ponder about, what’s happening in Afghanistan, Pakistan and other muslim countries against Ahmadis, Shias, and other sects.

I would still like to learn about Salafi religion and on which points it differs with mainstream Sunnis.

Salaam Alaikum Brother Lashkar,

It would be incorrect to state that the Salafis/Wahabis are different from Sunni Muslims. Traditionally, there have been 4 schools of thought within Sunni Islam - The Shafi, Maliki, Hanbali and Hanafi. Whilst each school of thought considers its views to be the most correct interpretation of Islam, adherents of one school accept those of others to be Sunni Muslims.
To me the Salafis/Wahabis appear simply to be at most another school of thought within Sunni Islam.
Sunni Islam as I follow it consists primarily of the views expressed by Hanafi scholars, together with some views of other schools including the Salafis and Wahabis. For example, I adhere firmly to the previously mentioned view of calling on Allah through intercession as being shirk/bida.

Thanks brother. I understand your point about Salafis being another school of thought inside the Sunnis.

All schools of thoughts were started by an important religious figure. Who started the Salafi school of thought?

Another question are Salafis and Wahabis different from each other or are they different names for the same thing.

Bida? Could be... debatable topic. Probably on another thread.

Shirk? I don't think so. Shirk is "BELIEVING" that there are more Gods than Allah. I don't think by my saying "Ya Mohammad", I somehow start believing the Prophet Mohammad was another God.

To me, you can't tell a person what he believes. If a person says that and yet he believes that Allah is the only God, then it is not shirk. Like I said, everything in Islam is based on intention. If you said there are 3 Gods and your intention was not to do so, and your belief still says that Allah is one, then Allah won't prosecute you for that.
Islam is not a harsh and strict religion that people have come to expect from it. Islam is a way of life. It should come naturally to us!

With all respect to all those involved in this discussion….I would like to mention the following items

Lashkare-Abbas: I am very glad to learn that you have researched your religion and not just accepted in blind faith.

SALMANKHANA: You ask for Quranic Ayaat or authentic Hadith as if you will accept them. Brother in the topic about “DUROOD” I must have given in excess of 10 AUTHENTIC HADITH..from Bukhari etc, but you absolutely did not even bother with them.. Clearly from Bukhari the prophet wanted you to say PBUH&HF but in your posting after mine, after reading the quotes you chose to say PBUH…further more you went on to say the better DUROOD is Aale Ibrahim one…well the family of MOHAMMAD PBUH&HF is Aale Ibrahim, u cannot get away that easily!!!!

ANY HOW I WILL PROVIDE AGAIN with Quranic Aayat and Authentic Hadith..

Firstly on the question of TAWASSAL
Al-Bukhari reported that Umar used make Tawassul to al-Abbas for rain:

Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith: 5.59 Narrated Anas:

Whenever there was drought, 'Umar bin Al-Khattab used to ask Allah for rain through Al-'Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib, saying, "O Allah! We used to request our Prophet to ask You for rain, and You would give us. Now we request the uncle of our Prophet to ask You for rain, so give us rain." And they would be given rain."

NOW DO YOU STILL SAY IT SHIRK??

Some people claim that asking for help to other than god is polytheism. Such people should never go to doctor when they becomes sick because this is polytheism (shirk)! Their going to doctor is a type of seeking a help from a specialist even though they do not say by their tongue that they are getting help from the doctor. Acting shirk is enough. Also they should not ask any question from anyone or request anything from any one because all these are shirk. Furthermore, they shouldn't eat any food because they should not help themselves by any other than God! If they say that we do all these because Allah told us to do so, then based on their own doctrine Allah is also polytheist (Mushrik). Na'udhu Billah!

Here is what they are missing: If we get help from any body, we do it with the understanding that he by his own can not help us. He can not benefit us unless Allah wishes to. If one calls Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HF) or Imam Ali (AS) for help, he is, in fact, calling Allah for help through intermediary of the Prophet or the Imams, and he does that with the understanding that the Prophet or the Imams doe not have any independent power, but rather what they have (which many others lack) is that they have CREDIT in front of Allah and that Allah does not put down their requests if they pray to Allah on my behalf.

IF IT IS WRONG TO ASK FOR HELP FROM OTHERS OTHER THAN GOD

  1. Why did the prophet say “Ya Ali Maddad” on the day of Khayber
  2. Why do you in Surah Fateha say keep me/show me the path of those you have bestowed your bounties upon?? Why not say god I want to follow your path?? Is it not enough for you to realise your ALMIGHTY came to you through a VASEELA (PROPHET) then why are you wanting to go direct?!

Regarding going to the graves of people…

Think not of those who are martyred in the way of Allah as dead. Nay! They are living, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord." (Quran 3:169)

Such people are not dead…

well i never said salafi'z were another school of thought.

here look at this.

Salafi's follow all the four schools of thought, whatever the four scholars say that is according to Sunnah and we leave whatever is not according to Sunnah of Prophet pbuh.

Quit talking about Salafi's now. You are spreading FITNAH in muslims.

Who decided and how do they decide, what parts of the four scholars sayings reflect the true Sunnah?

Anyways... It is very hypocritical of you to ask the admins to lock this post when you did not seem to object when my post on Shiaism was on their for more than a month. Where was your Fitnah then? Anyways... I started the post on Shiaism and this Post as a matter of educating different sects about others, not to create Fitnah. If your motive is so then you don't have to reply.

Ice Man. Very Nice reply. Debatable though. I believe in what you say, but I know it will become a hot topic for debate as Salafis might not believe in some of the sayings you mentioned above.

what is going on. People are saying Prophet Mohammed is Alive when Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said it very clear in his sermon after Prophet pbuh passed away from this world.

He was created long before this Earh was created why have you not heard the Hadith were the prophet says " i was there when Adam was between water and dust"...

You are right brother, that is what my belief is. I believe that Prophet Mohammad was created well before anything else and Allah created this world in love for his Habeeb. But AGAIN, I do not think the Salafis believe that so let's not attack their religious beliefs. (Even though they might not spare any opportunity to attack others)

I am still waiting for sane Salafi to come here and educate me about their religion instead of starting a fight and asking mods to close this thread

Ice man dont start interpreting the hadiths wihout having proper knowledge. One should not just take one hadith about one topic and interpret it, he should look that topic in the hadiths and what other statements are there regarding the topic. This includes the hadeeth being "zaeef" or not as well.

Sure... but how do you know if a Hadith is "Daeef"? I know Shias have a whole discipline that checks the whole line of relation of the Hadith, for the credibility of the people narrating it. Is it the same with Salafis?

Anyways... people try not to digress from the topic. I still need my answers.

I am sorry if you thought I was criticizing it. I was hoping that Salman would come back with an argument and help me understand the logic behind the decree better.
