They do stuff like that for their own banavat (showing off). Instead of wearing glittering jewels they show off about things that are of minimal consequence, and make a big deal out of it, likely because they don’t know the importance of the TRULY important things like making other people feel comfortable around you and being nice to people.

No, it’s actually not. You don’t get in people’s faces and TELL them what to do, you just practice Islam and be a good person yourself and if people pick up your example, then great. You are not obligated to get into people’s faces and be their mullah’s. That’s actually plain rude.
