Does anyone know who Sajid Ali is? Apparently he is/was a very prolific batsman. In Cricinfo’s list of highest List-A One Day innings, his name appears no less than THREE times with innings of 197 not out, 184 not out, and 171. How come nobody’s ever heard of him?
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richards?
Yeah Sajid Ali, was a great player of domestic cricket, since his highest score in international cricket is not more than 30, though he was given very few chances to be the part of the national team, but he actually never prove his class in international matches, showed lot of confidence in moving the side screen and other things, but never stayed in the crease for long.
But in domestic cricket he had a class of his own, I remember in of the matches playing for ABL, he struck about six sixers to the all time great bowler Waqar Younus. His age was more than 30 when he did that to Waqar Younus but it didn't matter to his aggresiveness.
His batting style was an eye candy for the cricket lovers, the way he used to use his body balance to hit shots was really the treat to watch.
I always wanted to see him with his class hammering the rival bowlers of international cricket.
But alas! it didn't happened.
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
i remember watching him playing in sharjah during one of ramadan invitational tournaments...he scored like 7-8 sixes...he was very good in domestic cricket...but failed miserably in international form of cricket
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richards?
Well....unlike pathetic excuse of players like Ramiz Raja, Aamir Sohail, Mansoor Akther and the Elahi brothers....If Sajid Ali was given a similar of chances, he would have been able to cement a place in the side....Its a pity, he did not play international cricket....
His 197* in the One Day match was against the attack that included Waqar, Saqlain and Tauseef Ahmed.....
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
I really dont think that Aamir Sohail was a pathetic player.
Also Slim Elahi had his flashes of being a decent batsman.
You can add Faisal Iqbal and Yassir Hameed to your list of batsmen who were given way more chances than they deserved.
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richards?
yar tum log khuda ka khauf karo. Mana kay cricket ka off season hay and there is nothing much to disucss on pakistan cricket. But still i cant believe someone started this thread and named it Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richards?](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/showthread.php?p=3335468#post3335468)
Yar pakistan cricket history and domestic circuit is filled with thousands of players like sajid ali. There was nothing special in that guy. To get into the the national side you have to be among the best but more imortant is to maintain your position in the side and for that you have to be the best. Sajid ali after greenidge and richards:smack2:
Some one is smoking too much these days:smokin2: and then :mudhosh:
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
bhaijan, the list which you are talking about is not the top one day innings list, but it is the list of top innings in LIST A one day matches. There is a huge difference between one day cricket and list A cricket. Such lists are not a criteria of comparing top and low quality players
The list which you are talking about has brain lara name twice, so can you say that sajid ali is greater than lara?
Ghulam ali also has his name twice, so ghulam ali and lara are equally great?
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
I know it’s List A one-day matches, but regardless of what kind of matches they were, there isn’t any other batsman except Greenidge and Richards who appears so consistently in that list. One innings could be called a fluke, but three (two of which are not outs)? Apparently the guy had some talent, it’s a shame that we never saw him on the international arena.
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
Well Yasir and Faisal’s career are’nt exactly over and they can still prove people wrong…Plus Faisal Iqbal too had flashes of a being good bat, like lofting Warne for straight sixes…
And no matter what people say…Aamir Sohail was a pathetic player and will remain one, idiot back lift was a huge flaw in his game, which prevented him from playing any controlled shots in the region square of the wicket on the on side…
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
Its a shame we never saw him on international areana???
Were you born after 1997???
He played 13 ODI and scored 130 runs at an average of 11. Never played a test as he wasn’t considered eligible to play one.
And how can you say that the comparision is valid. Did you see how many matches from that list were “Official ODI” and then how many were the List A matches which are unofficial matches not endorsed by ICC. Every tom dick and harry can be apart of that list since its list A cricket having records of all domestic cricket from all over the world.
And Yes half of these scores of greenidge and richards did not come in ODI either. Did you know why? Because it is a list of LIST A cricket and not ODI. If you really want comparision of sajid ali with the 2 greats, check their ODI records. Make sure that you also check the offcial international teams against which richards and greenidge scored their centuries and then compare those teams with PNSC, United Bank and Bahawalpur.
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
I know he played those ODIs…I meant we did not see him in the international arena for too long…and if its not too much trouble, can you leave the condescension out for now…
ODI stats won’t be a valid comparison, since Sajid Ali did not play nearly as many ODIs as those two gentlemen…Had he played, then we could have done the comparison…for now we only have List A games to go by…
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
Ok Mr. So Emotional, why didn’t we see him for too long in international arena? And for your comparision purpose why did we see the 2 greats for too long in the international arena?
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
I don’t want to defend Sajid Ali or not a big fan of him, but seems like he wasn’t given a proper run like 2-3 continuous series… he was given 2 games one year, than another 2-3 next year and so on. Yes, he should’ve scored in atleast one of the games, he played 5 of his 13 games against WI and two against SL. What I’m trying to say is that he probably suffered from the “rotating” methodology of the PCB.
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
Because, he did not have the backing nor the background others have had…And that makes a huge difference in Pakistan, still does…
Met Iqbal Qasim, current Selection Committee member, a couple of weeks ago, and the stories he told about what sort of political, coersive and threatening pressures he has had to endure being on the Selection Committee…
Re: Sajid Ali - Greatest One-Day batsman of our times after Greenidge and Viv Richard
Hmmmm. so basically its a hypothesis that because of polictical pressures or some other pressures the poor guy didn’t get the chance he deserved otherwise he would have accomplished more or less same which richards and greenidge acheived based on the list A record:D
