@GoldenAsif

S Rajesh’s damning verdict. His stats merely confirm what most of us already know. There is no doubting Tendu’s ability but when it comes to sheer reliability and batting well under pressure, when the chips are down etc. Gavaskar beats him hands down

Ricky Ponting, Boycott and Gavaskar average 59.57, 58.76 and 58.25 in the 4th innings

Gavaskar averages 56.60 in meaningful 4th innings (i.e. excluding games which were petering out into draws or had small run-chases). **Tendulkar averages a paltry 26.85. **

'Tendulkar averages 72.49 in the **first innings](http://stats.cricinfo.com/guru?sdb=player;playerid=1934;class=testplayer;filter=basic;team=0;opposition=0;notopposition=0;season=0;homeaway=0;continent=0;country=0;notcountry=0;groundid=0;startdefault=1989-11-15;start=1989-11-15;enddefault=2007-07-23;end=2007-07-23;tourneyid=0;finals=0;daynight=0;toss=0;scheduledovers=0;scheduleddays=0;innings=1;result=0;followon=0;seriesresult=0;captain=0;keeper=0;dnp=0;recent=;viewtype=bat_list;runslow=;runshigh=;batposition=0;dismissal=0;bowposition=0;ballslow=;ballshigh=;bpof=0;overslow=;overshigh=;conclow=;conchigh=;wicketslow=;wicketshigh=;dismissalslow=;dismissalshigh=;caughtlow=;caughthigh=;caughttype=0;stumpedlow=;stumpedhigh=;csearch=;submit=1;.cgifields=viewtype), which is ample proof that he passes that test; when it comes to batting at the end to save or win the match, though, his success-rate is significantly lower.'**

‘Gavaskar’s stats hardly change when they are placed under the microscope in this manner. The table below amply demonstrates that Gavaskar had little trouble in summoning his best in the last innings of a match. His unbeaten 117 at Bridgetown helped India bat 103 overs to save the game, the 102 at Port-of-Spain was instrumental in achieving a famous win, and his 221 at The Oval in 1979 is still ranked among the finest innings played at the ground. He finished in style too - his final Test innings, at Bangalore, was one of immense skill in extremely difficult conditions.’

But it seems other legendary batsmen such as Viv Richards, Miandad, Steve Waugh and Inzi have n’t done that well either as their names are not there.

Steve Waugh actually has worst 4th inning average and was know as crisis-man.
