Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil

Former captain Kapil Dev today trained his gun on Sachin Tendulkar after his failure in the first cricket Test against England, saying he has not delivered in crunch situations which will remain a “blot” in his career.

“Every time people hope big things from Sachin Tendulkar but often it is only disappointment that we are left with. He is thought to be the backbone of the Indian team but many times he has not stood up to the ocassion,” he said.
** “Figures say that Sachin has not been able to perform under pressure. This will remain a blot in his career,” Kapil Dev told ‘Aaj Tak’.**

“There are many players who play well but they face difficulties against good bowling attack, like Sourav Ganguly faces. These kind of questions will be raised in case of Sachin as well and it will continue to remain a blot in his career till he wins matches for India under difficult circumstances,” he said.
When asked whether Tendulkar deserved a place in the side, Kapil said, “Whether it is Sachin or anyone, one who does not perform does not have any place in the team.”
Tendulkar was out for 16 in the second innings while India were chasing a stiff total of 380 to win the Test match.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

That was unnecessary .Wrong timing Kapil jee ,it will put Tendulkar more under pressure in the ongoing series.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

Wht people forget all those matches where he alone plays and after his wicket the Indians folded out within 10 balls space.Say for example semi final 1996 ,Chennai 1999.How can people forget such things and claiming that he''never'' performed under pressure .What abt 2003 world cup.Such short memories.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

^ To remember a game where Tendu performed under pressure, you had to go back to 1996. That says it all. In fact, I don't seem to remember even this particular game that you are referring to.
Where as careers of other stalwarts like Inzimam, Steve Waugh etc are studded with games where they literally pulled their teams out of the muddle to victory or to force a draw.

wow ,u wear some spects .

^I don't worship false gods my friend...and like to call a spade, a spade.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

Do u remember how India reached in the final of 2003 World cup.Don't worship any one ,but don't be too blind .

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

How...do tell.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

^...and while you are at it...remember we are talking about taking India from a state of misery to victory or draw. In other words, not scoring a fifty or a century but "finishing" the game for India.

Exhibit 1 : Circa Chennai Test against Pak...where the master blaster left India high and dry 15 runs from victory by playing an outrageous shot.

Exhibit 2: Just concluded Lord's test where his contribution was crucial.

Exhibit 3: All matches in between.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

Bandhu,
What some1 is saying is this. Almost all the great players have played few test inning in their career which was a signature inning. Which was played in extreme conditions and helped team either win or saved blushes in very bad situations. For example: Laxman at Calcutta.. or Dravid at Adelaide and many more,Inzi's 329 as well as 100 against Bangladesh to win the game and many more.
If you look at Sachin;s career, closest he comes is vs Pakistan in Chennai. But there also he couldnot finish it off and India lost. Many of his recent 100s have come against either weak opposition or in perfectly fine batting conditions or first inning of a test match. We want him to do what pieterson did on Lords once in a while.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

There is a column on Cricinfo (quoted by PhoenixDesi in another thread). It says that if you remove the games against BD and Zimbabwe, Tendulkar's Test Average in the last 3 years is 31.19.
Says it all.

Coming back to the topic, even in the 2003 WC Final, if you think about it, Tendulkar hardly finished the game for India. If it was not for the sensible batting of Yuvraj/Dravid at the end, Pak could have still got back in the game after Tendulkar's dismissal.

The point is not whether or not he is not a GREAT BATSMAN.
He is...and it will be foolish to say otherwise.

But if my team in is a bad situation, I would prefer less heralded players like Steve Waugh, Jacques Kallis...even batsmen like Jaywardane and Chanderpaul....instead of TENDULKAR.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

He's not a finisher, happy ending style...:D

For those who did not get it, never mind.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

He is not much of a starter too.

For those who did not get it, never mind.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

LOL, guess you did not.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

Yes, I am too innocent to get it.

The dirt is in your mind.

Re: Sachin has not performed under pressure: Kapil!

I guess so :D.
