SA tour/ Inzi new captain, Rashid retained, Mushtaq recalled.

**PCB to seek ICC view on Karachi, Peshawar **

KARACHI: Pakistan will be asking the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its members next month in the West Indies to decide once and for all if cities like Karachi and Peshawar are safe for international cricket.

The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Lt. General Tauqir Zia said on Tuesday that Pakistan had acted with prudence in dropping Karachi and Peshawar from the South African itinerary and were forced to do this to salvage the tour. **“But I have reached a conclusion that it is time for us to decide once and for all at the ICC level where do Karachi and Peshawar stand as international venues for touring teams,” he told reporters in Karachi.

“We are going to take up this matter seriously at the next ICC executive board meeting in next month in the West Indies. We want to ask all the ICC member countries should we start converting our cricket stadiums in these cities into football stadiums or they would be making no more excuses to avoid playing in these cities,” Tauqir stated.**

The PCB chief said that Karachi and Peshawar were to very big cities and major cricket venues in Pakistan and they could not be isolated by international teams.

“This matter has to be resolved because we can’t isolate Karachi or Peshawar where will the local cricket go than,” he said.

Pakistan has been forced to exclude Karachi and Peshawar in a rescheduled itinerary sent to the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) after they called off the tour after a bomb blast in Karachi on Friday.

Tauqir said that to save the tour because of the financial and cricketing implications involved in it and because of the shortage of time, Pakistan had acceded to the demand of the UCBSA to drop these cities from the itinerary.

But he said now Pakistan would be approaching the issue very differently if other boards didn’t change their views on playing in Karachi or Peshawar.

Pakistan has said that if South Africa didn’t tour it would file a damages suit for $7 million with the ICC disputes resolution committee.

**“It is unacceptable to us this isolation of Karachi and Peshawar as international cricket venues. As these cities are as safe as any other big city in the world. And we have had no incident of sportsmen bring targeted in these cities. Every big city nowadays has problems with isolated terrorist incidents but that does not mean you stop all sporting activities,” he stated. "This issue of teams not willing to play in Karachi or Peshawar over security concerns has to be resolved by the ICC once for all and we will push for it.

We can’t afford to accept such demands from touring sides anymore," Tauqir repeated.**

He said that even the ICC President Ehsan Mani had taken the UCBSA to task for canceling their tour without first consulting the ICC or PCB.

“Gerald Majola and the former President Percy Sonn have always been very supportive of Pakistan cricket but in this case I think the UCBSA took a hasty decision.”

“I spoke to Ehsan Mani atleast 10 times during this crisis and generally everyone has been very supportive of our stand and understand the problems we are facing due to rescheduled tours,” the PCB chief explained.

Elahi & Co.,

Purely from an analytical point of view , I think it is unwise now for SA to reverse its earlier decision. Dont get me wrong, this is not about me being anti-pak or anything, I just think that whatever decision SA took they should have stood by it..... The reason is that now that this series has already generated so much security-related interest, it will become doubly challenging for the PCB and the Pak law enforcement agencies to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. Anti-pak interests will see this as a golden opportunity to create mischief to achieve their purpose and get some spotlight. I hope I am proven wrong. But (God forbid) if any such incident did happen, Pak will probably say "good bye" to foreign teams for a long time to come. And SA's earlier stand will be vindicated.
As I said earlier...I hope I am proven wrong and that this series goes through smoothly... and also that SA give the Pakis a sound thrashing :)

Well said, never mind if they beat us so long as the series is competitive and played in the right spirit. The world will be watching and if it goes smoothly and incident free then pakistan cricket will be well on its way to playing home series against other teams.

Pakistan Vs South AFrica

South Africa ki team Monday ko Pakistan aa Rahi hay.
Karachi aur peshawar kay venues change kar diay gay heen

Our records against SA in Test and ODI Matches:

In Tests

Pakistan wins: 1
South Africa wins: 5
Draws: 3
Ties: 0

In ODI's

Pakistan wins: 11
South Africa wins: 23
Draws: 0
Ties: 0
No result: 0

The record doesnt look good at all...

in the initial itinerary announced before the changes were made, we (pakistan) were supposed 2 play 3 tests but the revised itinerary shows only 2 tests simply coz' the southern africans wouldn't visit the dubbed ** dangerous cities ** of peshawar and karachi.

i would like 2 know why didn't the pcb in the revised itinerary include another city as a third test host like quetta, multan, gujranwala, bahawalpur etc as there aren't exactly any shortages of good cricket grounds in pakistan!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah exactly,,, why two two matches in Lahore and Pindi.. why not Quetta and new cool stadium of Multan as well...

I think the tests should have come first. By the time the one dayers are out of the way no one will be interested in the 5 day version, it's been clear for some time now that Pakistanis are only interested in watching one dayers.

What happend to Gujranwala, Multan, Sialkot ?

If Khi and Peshawer are to be excluded why have 2/2 matches at Faisalabad and Lahore? I dont think its a good Idea both financially and for the good of people. Do you think Lahore and Faisalabad stadiums can be filled twice in 3 days? We have seen the Lahore crowd against BD (ok it was BD even then). Why PCB always ignore small stations and ppl there? why?

These cities are still there, honest. :D

On a serious note the reason, and I am speculating here, that they are playing 2 matches at one venue might be the logistics and the security aspects involved in rearranging the matches in a hurry.

^^ spot on, coz after all this rescheduling, loss of revenue from cancellation of a test .. this all counts towards a compensation made by holding 2. 2 matches in one stadium!!

The tour is atleast a week away and we are already on sixth page :smack:. Can we start afresh when the games ACTUALLY start?

Hmmmm, I'm gonna be in Pakistan then ;)

I definitly prefer 2 more 1 dayers then a test match, sad part is no matches would happening in Karachi, as they have the best and the loudest crowd in the country.

agreed :k: it is a sad thing to see the poor karachite fans deprive of all the fun! :frowning:

well look on the bright side, maybe we can make a world record for the guiness book of world records!!!

Looking tough

Inzamam takes over captaincy from Latif](http://uk.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2003/SEP/263881_PAK_25SEP2003.html)

Inzamam-ul-Haq has been appointed the new Pakistan captain, starting with the forthcoming series against South Africa and the New Zealand tour later this year, it was announced today. Also in the squad to face the South Africans were Rashid Latif, who resigned as captain yesterday, and the re-called Mushtaq Ahmed.

Inzamam recently led Pakistan to a 5-0 whitewash against Bangladesh while Latif was serving his five-match ban, and Inzamam’s appointment caps off a remarkable turn-around in fortune and favour. Only a month ago he was in the international wilderness, and although he was recalled to bolster Pakistan’s middle order in the first Test against Bangladesh, he made a duck in the first innings and only mustered another 88 runs in his next three knocks. But his matchwinning unbeaten 138 in the one-wicket victory at Multan showed that he still has what it takes.

Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, chairman of the Pakistan board, said in a statement: “I had a lengthy discussion with Inzamam-ul-Haq and he looks geared up and motivated to lead the Pakistan team. He understands that he has a tough job in hand and realizes that he not only has to lead the team in a tough series against South Africa but also continue the good job done by Rashid.”

Inzamam, meanwhile, said: “I am delighted that the establishment has put faith in my abilities. I will put in my best and will try to carry on the good work done by Rashid Latif. There will be pressure on me. But I guess after playing for 13 odd years, one has to raise his hand and say yes I can handle this pressure and shoulder the hopes of millions of Pakistan supporters.”

**Mushtaq’s recall rounds off a remarkable year for him after his hundred-wicket haul in the English county season for Sussex. Aamer Sohail, chairman of selectors, said on Mushtaq: “The opposition [in England] might not be as tough as the South Africans. But the great thing is that he is bowling well and taking a lot of wickets. There is no denying the fact that a lot is expected of him in the forthcoming series.” **

The revised series against South Africa starts on October 3 with the first one-day international at Lahore.

Squad
**Mohammad Hafeez, Yasir Hameed, Yousuf Youhana, Inzamam-ul-Haq (capt), Younis Khan, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, Rashid Latif (wkt), Mohammad Sami, Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, Shabbir Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed, Faisal Iqbal and Salman Butt.

Reserves: Asim Kamal, Imran Farhat, Faisal Athar, Danish Kaneria, Kamran Akmal and Abdul Rauf.**

A sane move to retain Rashid and A very balanced squad…
Great to see Mushtaq coming back, hope he continues the good work against SA as well :k:
