i’m literally so shocked i cant believe it…YUCK

well…(no offence to foreign born raised guppies…i know all r not like this)…most of the ppl who work in the evening shift of my office are foreign raised…mostly American born and raised…coz its a call center in the evening and they need ppl with American accents…

so like the evening shift crowd is totally and completely different from the morning crowd which i work with…the morning crowd is all made in pakistan so feesad desi maal…

anyways, i had some stuff to do today so i was staying late in the office and none of the morning ppl were around at that time but me…so i’m sitting in the morning shift office when this guy from the evening shift comes and announces to everyone that its his birthday and there’s food and drinks for everyone in the kitchen…

and he was saying some more stuff too but i was busy with my work so zoned out on what he was saying, barely hearing it…

on my way out from work, i remembered, so i thought lemi c if there’s anything left…i go into the office…and there i see these big brown paper bags…i’m thinking huh weird…khayr…i look inside…

and i swear for a moment i thought i must be seeing a nightmare… what do i see in there???

empty bottles…and then in a flash i remember that i had vaguely heard that guy say there’s BEER in the kitchen when he had come to tell us but i had dismissed the thought as absurd and thought i must have misheard him…

but i realised that very moment…that…that stuff…that SMELL…IT WAS ALCOHOL :eeek:

i dont wana look at it and i dint wana read what it said on those bottled but i realised…that…i was standing right next to dozens of EMPTY WINE BOTTLES :eeek: so many of them :eeek: i couldnt believe my eyes

OMG i was shocked outta my mind…SHOCKED…for a few seconds i dint move…and then i thought…IREM…GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE…i dint wana inhale that air…i dint wana be in that room…i just stepped out of the kitchen…told myself irem just calm down…headed out of the office down to my car…

i still can’t believe it… i’m shocked..SHOCKED…shocked!!!

i’m gona talk to my boss tomorrow abt it…and i swear to God i’m gona quit my job if something is not done abt this… :S

i never thought this day would come…in Pakistan…lived five years in AMREEKA…and never once experienced such a thing…and now in pakistan…my homeland…i knew this stuff happenned in ppl’s homes or whatever…but my own workplace…???

:S

the SHOCK is still there…but more than anything…i’m so terribly disappointed…

YUCK :yukh: YUCK

yuck

YUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

:S

Do you not think people born and raised in Pakistan drink alcohol?

Beer smells horrible and is for uncles with big bellies and bald heads :yukh:

Maybe a few shots of vodka or other spirits are ok and wine at parties, ahh well I’m off those things now, it’s tempting but I stay right away. :nono1:

u were an undergrad in the US and u never saw beer??

well US workplace rules are quite strict.. no smoking or alcoholic beverages inside the workplace.. and there is a limit on how much alcohol or if at all you can put it on the company tab.

these kids being desi and in a desi company prolly got away with serving beer inside the workplace.. you should definitely report it to the management and demand they put better rules in place to prevent this happening again..

on a separate note.. please go out more :)

Mehnaz…ofcourse they do…but for alcohol to be served at a social event at a normal Pakistani office…i dono…its just

Jesus Christ! It's friggin' beer not devil's blood or something. If you're all that miss nazuk-mazak and goody-two-shoes then may be you should work from home or something and don't go out.

Public drinking is common in Pakistan at various levels. Only you've lived an inhibited life.

Roman whatever bro  Its not abt being nazuk-mazaj and goody-two-shoes or whatever…i’m prolly the last person to be a goody-two-shoes…but i had never seen such a thing in my life before…
and i dont know …but i think its not RIGHT to serve alchol. yeah i don’t think its RIGHT. ITS WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. you might have a different opinion. but I DONT THINK ITS RIGHT. and i’m gona fight for what i believe in and make DAMN SURE it doesnt happen at a place i work in. if it happens again, im out of there.
and yeah i might have lived an inhibited life, though i dont think i have, but i’m proud that my parents sheltered me from evils like this and i sheltered myself from such things in college. i never had to see such VEHSHAT. i’m a gunahgaar. i’ve done many sins. but yeah sharaab is GUNAH-E-KABEERA…this stuff…its bad…ALLAH ka LAAKH LAAKH shukar hae that i’ve lived an inhibited life if u consider this inhibited…

PakistaniAbroad…believe me or dont believe me…but yes i never saw BEER…or maybe i saw it but i dint know if it was beer…coz i really sheltered myself from such things when i was in the US…i never went to a single undergrad or grad party and if i knew they were serving alcohol somewhere i simply avoided that function…an waise bhee the school i went to is a very parhaakoo school…and yes i’m damn proud of that alhamdulillah that i havent ‘gone out’ if going out means seeing alcohol… :yukh:

thats not all, all the things I am hearing of going on in pakistan and you are blaming foreign raised.

i’m a gunahgaaar myself and i got no right to preach…

but brother…whats wrong is wrong…u cant deny it…SHARAAB is HARAAM

i’m proud of u that u stay away… :mash: keep it up chotu :flower1:

Saadia baji…what happenned today…its not normal…its not something that happens normally in Pakistani offices…

i’m not blaming foreign raised…all r not like that…but yeah, this could have never happenned in the morning shift… i duno :bummer:

i’m feeling sooo… :bummer: :crying:

Mehnaz, I already said all r not like that...some foreign raised i've seen have better morals and values [imho] than pakistani born...

but yes...i think its a FACT...that i dont think any of our morning shift guys drink....but those empty bottles...who consumed them? evening shift guys

Irem, I don't have beef with your considering alchohol bad or wrong or whatever, or whatever you think in terms of your work place. But your whole "SHOCKED" behaviour is way over the top.

Irem, it could happen in your morning shift too, maybe it does but kind of hidden, the only difference is that the foreign raised will not hide it where as the typical desi will do it in 'pardah'

pakistan is not a pure islamic land, its only islamic in its name and constituation.

well anyway mitti paou, like you would say yourself, its their life, i know you must have been shocked, you led a very sheltered life, this is the price what females pay when they are not exposed to the real world, thank God you are now working and seeing things with your own eyes, these experiences will make you strong, to over look them and to go on with your life.

hugs

Saadia, if I protest against alchohol and drinking, would I get hugs from you too? :dhimpak:

Femme...i never worked abroad but i was under the impression they have alcohol parties n stuff there :S they dont? nowhere? wow...thats good to hear...

Roman, bro, well, yes I was...SHOCKED
and I can bet anything that when I tell my friends in the office tomorrow they're gonna be equally shocked...
i admit i am a very emotional person and sometimes react like mercury :S little things can shock me...BUT... i think this is MAJOR...and yes..i was...HIGHLY SHOCKED
tomorrow, i'm gona talk to our boss abt this...

Roman, only if you are a burkah cladded massi err female.

Saadia baji…thank u …so much

Irem alcohol is not allowed in work premises even if you are having a party at work during work hours. Atleast the places I have worked at.
