This is very civilized kill everybody who dares to disagree, question or make fun. God and his messenger need all the protection and people should be killed to please them. I wonder than why God is called merciful.

Rushdie did not just disagree…he did not just question or make fun of, HE RE-WROTE history! Im not sure if you’ve had a chance to read some parts of the satanic verses..but lets just say that if one is a follower of ISLAM, these parts CANNOT be tolerated.

One more thing, i think hiding for the rest of his life is enough punishment for him but what i cant stand is the western world giving him full coverage…

oh wait,,,,JIHAD, taken literally, should also mean something here, regarding rushdie.

Rani, read this...

Strange Logic

Untrue to your nation, your country
A Quisling you are.
Hated and despised, a traitor
Must be hanged, not put behind the bar.

Subvert the constitution, break the law
Insult the flag; felonius acts,
These are serious crimes
For which society its revenge exacts.

Revile a Jew, dishonour a gentile
Call a man a nigger, polak, kike or gook.
You will be rightly condemned
A racist insult no one should overlook;

But its alright to slander Jesus
It's permissible to malign Muhammad too.
Make an ugly film, write a dirty book
Discourage art and literature? Do you?

Aren't we blessed with freedom
To abuse the freedom of expression?
We had learnt freedom is not license,
In this case no, it's not a transgression!

Emotions are defending the country we live in
Are signs of laudable patriotism
Protests defending Holy Books we live by
Proofs of fundamentalist fanatic dogmatism!

Is it not strange and obtuse logic
That traitors to the country and the flag
Are punished, masked enemies of religions
Lionized, allowed their evil tongues to wag?

The First Amendment is important
It guarantees the right of free speech.
Let us protect it from becoming a plaything
Of men who every code of decency breach.
--M.Anwer Beg

the difference is, GFQ, that no one made John Rocker go into hiding for fear of his life.

If you are "Untrue to your nation, your country, A Quisling you are. Hated and despised, a traitor", then you will have caused the physical suffering (and possibly the deaths) of many people. This is different from blaspheming, and not strage or obtuse logic.

However, it is strage and obtuse to believe that one protects freedom of speech by condemning the blasphemers, as the last stanza suggests.

I do not know if the “Fatwa” has been lifted on Rusdie or not? Blasphemers like him are to be beheaded. That will be justice served to him as well as to over 1 billion Muslims, besides setting an example for such blasphemers.

There have been rumors that the fatwa has been lifted, but in essence, since the person who issued the fatwa is now dead, he is not there to lift the fatwa.

With this kind of vigilante punishment - aren't you afraid that one day you may be (unknowingly and accidentally) blaspheme, and also suffer a similar fate? Or, what about your children?

Astrofan there is a world of difference between unknowingly and accidentally blaspheme and inciting beliefs of over 1 billion Muslims of the world on purpose. Rushde deserve beheading. If he had done it unknowingly and accidentally then how come we haven’t seen any apology from that mardood.

No, I'm sure Rushdie was intentional and methodical, showing a caricature of Muhammed as a normal man, tormented as much as blessed by Gibreel and Saladin.

Still, you didn't answer the question about unknowingly blaspheming. There was the uproar of Koranic verses on pants, or the Hindu Pakistani who accidentally wrapped her food in paper that happened to have Koranic verses. Clearly, those actions incite the beliefs of Muslims, but then, should they also be beheaded?

I am reading his most recent work “The Ground Beneath Her Feet”. So far so good.

Whoever believes that his he should be killed for what he wrote, should learn to read.

Unintentional, unknowingly and accidental blaspheme deserves the pardon.

Musalman,

To kill a man for his views shows one billion muslims are very insecure about their religion.

Let people like Rushdie write. if there is no truth in what he is saying all of it will fall by the wayside but to stifle criticism and kill people shows intense insecurity.
Great people should be able to withstand scrutiny and criticism like anybody else.

P.S. I just got 'Satan Verses' from the library and i am planning to read it in the next few days.

Whoever believes otherwise should learn to understand and realize that NO ONE is going to get away after inciting the belief of over 1 billion Muslims of the world in the name of freedom of speech by blaspheming according to their whims and desires.
