In India also there was lot of resistance for polio vaccine among Muslims especailly in North India, Uttar Pradesh. Western UP region was responsible for 53% of India’s and 66% of Uttar Pradesh**…** parents having wrong perception about adverse effect of **polio vaccine causing impotency and infertility. Government of India had to take a massive campaign educating masses about polio vaccine.
Fears related to impotency and infertility due to vaccination was very high among study population and still persists after lots of efforts to combat it. It was interesting to note that Muslim and urban areas were more affected by these misconceptions and rumors.

Good question. No clue. Being on the outside looking in, it appears to be due to lack of awareness. What is behind this lack of awareness? I don't know. First time I am hearing this. Maybe those who follow Indian news closely can comment. I am curious to learn how this apprehension can be overcome.

Is this specific to Muslims or is this reflective of education and income level. In other words, do folks of same income level and education have same feat ot lack of fear towards vaccine. I hope this is the case. Because that can be fixed with better awareness campaign at the local and national level.

Once upon a time people from all religion were negligent towards vaccination programs....but now a days every one is aware of vaccination program...
but some muslims of UP are falling pray to such rumors....actually i also heard from an uttar pradesh native about such rumors.....
