There is this pakistani feminist writer/columnist.
She once wrote that if paksitani people could somehow do away with their obsession of freshly home cooked roti. Pakistani women would be able to achieve so much more. The Roti creates such a dire restriction, that they can’t free themselves to indulge in anything else.
As far as I know most people prefer fresh home made food over processed ready made food. Whether that is rotti, other desi food, or non-desi food.
There are 24 hours in day, if making rotti (which doesnt take significant much time to make) stops you from achieving something (whatever that is) than you have more problems. Serious problems.
I read it, but Kishwar aapa is not convincing to convey her point of view. Article discuss many other aspects but not discussing the merits of issue you are referring to. She even doesn't state that in sub-continent not only men but ladies are also obsessed with this garam roti thing
The preference for home cooked food is not specifically a "desi thing." In general, most people prefer home cooked food to shop-bought ready made food. I'm not sure why people are always so keen to make every issue a "desi thing" and give it a negative connotation.
In my experience, cooking from scratch hardly takes all day. It may take longer than it would take to heat up ready made food but it definitely does not take up the entire day nor does it keep one from doing other things. As far as I know, making roti does not take a significant amount of time. As Le Pak said, if making roti stops you from achieving something than you have more serious issues to address.
