Roti

There is this pakistani feminist writer/columnist.

She once wrote that if paksitani people could somehow do away with their obsession of freshly home cooked roti. Pakistani women would be able to achieve so much more. The Roti creates such a dire restriction, that they can’t free themselves to indulge in anything else.

Do you agree?

Re: Roti

All humanity can achieve more if they state facts backed by a reference :)

Re: Roti

So you rather ask for reference, than comment on the question asked?

Re: Roti

This is just a cover-up for her abysmal roti-making skills.

Re: Roti

^^^^ haha that's what I thought

Re: Roti

Pakistani nation should start eating cake

Re: Roti

Many women in Pak don't make Doris at home they get naan, kulchey, tandoori roti, pooriyaaN from market.

Re: Roti

As far as I know most people prefer fresh home made food over processed ready made food. Whether that is rotti, other desi food, or non-desi food.

There are 24 hours in day, if making rotti (which doesnt take significant much time to make) stops you from achieving something (whatever that is) than you have more problems. Serious problems.

Re: Roti

Roti is not necessarily healthy.

Re: Roti

I don't even understand this question

Re: Roti

I bet no one read the article. Not even the guy who demanded it :hehe:

Re: Roti

I read it, but Kishwar aapa is not convincing to convey her point of view. Article discuss many other aspects but not discussing the merits of issue you are referring to. She even doesn't state that in sub-continent not only men but ladies are also obsessed with this garam roti thing

Re: Roti

Itni Urdu kon parhe ga bhai? Summary in English please?

Re: Roti

Roti banda kha jaandi ae :rotfl:

Re: Roti

& I thought making gol roti is an achievement in itself. I was so wrong. :naak:

Re: Roti

The preference for home cooked food is not specifically a "desi thing." In general, most people prefer home cooked food to shop-bought ready made food. I'm not sure why people are always so keen to make every issue a "desi thing" and give it a negative connotation.

In my experience, cooking from scratch hardly takes all day. It may take longer than it would take to heat up ready made food but it definitely does not take up the entire day nor does it keep one from doing other things. As far as I know, making roti does not take a significant amount of time. As Le Pak said, if making roti stops you from achieving something than you have more serious issues to address.

Home made roti is good but..personally i am not picky. Maybe my dads generation. Not me.

Re: Roti

You are not wrong at all. To do a consistently good job in cooking something that is a staple food is an achievement.

Re: Roti

Ditto!

PS. Those who don't agree with the above statement, please check the roti thread in household.
