There is this pakistani feminist writer/columnist.
She once wrote that if paksitani people could somehow do away with their obsession of freshly home cooked roti. Pakistani women would be able to achieve so much more. The Roti creates such a dire restriction, that they can't free themselves to indulge in anything else.

It doesn't take but a few minutes to prepare dough and make a few rotis. We don't live in huge households anymore where there are tons of family members. If you don't feel like eating roti or don't like it much or have other substitutes, then sure. But to say the making fresh roti takes a woman away from accomplishing greater things in life is quite siilly.

What a brilliant little thread. I can't believe i've missed it so far.
I agreee there is an irrational/self induced obsession with Roti-making. But once conquered I've never found it to hinder any other aspect of life.
