Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

anil..insomnia? :)

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

mods who ONLY lock all threads need to resign, I agree 100%.
luckily I dont see much of that going around :)

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

I think Gupshup administration should run some training sessions for moderators , where they should get trained to work effectively and efficiently .. Rather than just throwing them at the deep end of the ocean … they should go through atleast a week training before getting their hands on moderatorship .

No doubt .. Gupshup is one the biggest forums I have been on and its time it should run like a proper business organization..

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

in hell? that may be tough
but here you can surely see it.
it is essentially the same code of conduct as for everyone else.

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

they do, in additio they have coaches in the forim of senior members and advisors in admins and ehsan bhai.

in real business world too, the training dies not always guarantee a perfect match between person and role

and even if it is, it is not a guarantee that everyone else would feel that way.

PS: dont diss TLK like this
PS2: ask TLKs own experience, he is a new mod

as it pertains to GS the definition was referred to in post#1 as my definition

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

Bahi ..

But there should be some extra clauses for their added responsibilities.. They aint a general user or are they ?

Is there any criteria or set of rules to judge their performances?

Do they go through any performance evaluation yoke on regular basis?

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

the philosophy is the same.

yes

yes

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

Oh. Confidential information .. Jolly good :D

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

I only answered the question you asked,

the question was "is there such a thing" the question was not, explain how its done :)

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

Ahan .. so let us put it through like …

Critically evaluate the current Gupshup performance evaluation program …

Guru , u are a business graduate so I hope I don’t have to tell that am looking for more then a Yes here as I requested for critical evaluation :D

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

^
nope mon ami you asked the following

the answer of is there.. is yes
the answer of do they..is yes

u did not ask the exact mechanics of how they are evaluated, if you are now asking that I can answer that as well.

I will speak in general terms because ehsan bhai is the one who is primarily doing this, ppl like myself are somewhat involved but to avoid teh too many cooks spoiling the broth scenario, he handles that.

lets just say they are qualitative as well as quantitative factors.

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

Haha u know I was just messing :) The quote it good ! i can let ya go for that :D

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

btw I am not listing specifics not to dodge it, but i dont want to confuse the issue and would rather have you speak with ehsan bhai if you want the specifics.

we track many metrics, including participation and impact on forums, for own forum and GS as a whole, also factored in are complaints, special events, team work, etc etc.

anyways ehsan is up, I am way late for bedtime so going to go, now he can take over your questions: D

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

G'nite .... Nya I aint that Free with Ehsan bahi . uNka dimagh nahi kahsakta ..

waysay Gs should have a proper marketing dept .. it would get you some real business instead of these google Ads yoke :)

Sweet dreams Bahi :)

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

The role of moderator is primarily as described by X2:

** facilitators
promoters
consensus builders
dispute resolvers
and in the end
discipline enforcers"

**Also keep in mind that these are purely volunteer positions and the mod team give up their own valuable time to help run this site.

As I see it there are three elements to this operation, Admins, Mods and the Posters. Each one is equally important and the site would not operate if one of these elements was missing. It therefore follows that all three have certain amount of responsibilities to ensure the success of this site.

Here we are looking at the role of the Moderators. Their role is as explained above and Anil for you to snigger at their role as facilitators and promoters is just not true. Just look around the forums and what is happening currently, the cafe mods are runnng a series of fun polls, a very good thread promoting General forum has been posted yesterday by the General Mods. RKS and jokes forum are running competitions to get guppies involved in their forums and recently audio mods ran a number of programmes to increase awareness and participation of posters in their forum. Mods also made a superb comedy video which is in the video forum. All these are the current promotions going on in the forums. There is a lot more the mods do. Take KK for example, before every major tour which Pakistan undertakes polls are run, a fantasy league competition is run and articles are posted to stimulate discussion. Yes we can do more and any suggestions by posters are welcome but under the circumstances and constraints under which they operate the mods are doing well.

As I said before it is a partnership between the three of us so there is also a responsibility on the posters and ATA has made some good points there. I would welcome more suggestions form our posters on how to improve and incorporate other ideas within the various forums. I do from time to time receive such suggestions and we do look at all of them. Unfortunately 95% of the time all I receive is complaints when posts are deleted or threads locked. That is fine and I do look into them but would welcome more participation from posters as to new ideas. RKS forum which was launched recently came about purely as a result of suggestions by various posters and their participation in creating and launching it.

Anil the only suggestion that I recall you have ever made is to ban Indians from these forums. Hopefully we will get some more constructive suggestions in the future. :)

Re: Role of moderators (continued from that other thread)

There is a detailed guide on mods responsibilities and how to perform their duties available in the mods forum and every new mod is referred to it and they use that guide to familiarise themselves on what their role is and how to set about it. Also in the early days the whole team is there to help them with any problems.

A review is carried out on an ongoing basis and various figures are looked at and posted in the mods forum.

A very thorough review has recently been carried out of all the forum and its report is currently being discussed in the mods forum and the results will be for everyone to see shortly.

Mods have in the past been removed form their posts due to lack of performance or when there have been genuine complaints where we felt that the mod was in the wrong. However, luckily such instances are not very many as we constantly talk to each other as team members and take corrective action if required.

We are not perfect nor do we claim to be. we welcome all suggestions and constructive criticism.

Aliyish you have made good points and I would like to carry on the discussion with yourself, so please feel free to contact me.
